When my husband had a pacemaker inserted in December, the doc explained much about what was going on. You took it further here, and I appreciate that. I like how you talk in layman's terms so non-medical people can understand.

Thanks for the helpful information. Your video raises a few questions: 1. You mention that people typically need pacemakers due to ageing and 'wear and tear' of the AV (the 'drummer). But why then do young people sometimes need them? 2. You say that people won't die without one; but if you have AV block 2 (Mobitz, type 2), isn't there a risk of converting to AVB-3 (complete block), which is potentially life threatening? 3. Apart from the risk of infection, are there any other risks, such as increased blood clots in the vein where the pacemaker cable is situated? Thanks again, great if you could answer these related questions!

Hello Doc, love your explanations. Can you please explain the leads, I've heard that it can have 1 to 3 leads. Please explain when 1 lead is needed and when would 3 be needed. My mom will be getting one soon, because the results from the holter she was wearing for 24hrs shows she had a couple of heart pauses and the longest was 4.5 seconds long. Also, can you tell me if too much Metropolol could cause one's heart functions to require a pacemaker?

Would you recommend use of Smartwatch to monitor heart rate, while with a Pacemaker. It seems I'm getting paranoid with my smartwatch. Had pacemaker implant last March 8, this year. Had to check my watch so often while walking exercise, whether my HR is too high or too low. Had HR as high as 152bpm while walking exercise. Is this still ok for a 69 yr old female with PPM?

York Cardiology thanks. Your videos are great. I have learned so much. My few instances of irregular and rapid heartbeats have only happened a few times in 40 years. But I have a 30 day monitor right now. It’s three wires and a small box with a cell phone. Seems pretty archaic compared to that small device.

York Cardiology Thank you for sharing. If this really works and can provide an accurate diagnosis, it’s going to be incredible. As soon as I saw the Apple Watch band I ordered it. It’s worth every penny of $200 and the service is free so a great deal without surgery. I really appreciate you telling me about this and I can’t wait to try it. I will report back how it works for me. Maybe even make a video and share it with you. Thanks!

Thanks for telling me about Kardia Band. I wanted to report back that I bought one recently and have been wearing it. I could never get a heart monitor to catch the heart issues I was having. Until this week. I had a rapid heartbeat at work and was able to capture it and send to my doctor. It helps me to relax knowing I can at least get a reading of what’s happening and know if it’s dangerous or not. My doctor suggested a beta blocker but I’m not taking medicine unless I need to.
