Here is a deep dive into D Minor! This will stop you striking randomly and help you understand the hidden chords in the music you're making. If you have a handpan or tonguepan in a minor scale this is the video for you. If you happen to have a D Minor (Kurd/ Integral / Annaziska) scale this is ideal, but whatever notes your pan is based around this will teach you how to play the basic chord shapes using my numbered system. This method will uncover any minor scale.
D Minor Midori
Tones:
D3 / A Bb C D E F G A
1/ 5, 6, 7, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 degrees of the scale.
Which scale shall I do next? If you'd like a personalised chord sheet for your handpan let me know.

Thanks, Rosie! This is GREAT! At Pantasia, you mentioned there were a couple other videos that you've made for other pan scales. Can you direct me to those as well? Looking forward to finally memorizing my chords and coming up with some new epic things on the pan!! Woot woot!

So helpful! I have a D Minor Vibedrum, so I'm missing the entire scale; but I have a much better understanding of how to group the notes into chords and progressions. I'm missing E and Bb. I've started tapping out a few songs and I use D3 and F3 simultaneously as an E3 replacement. D4 and G4 for E4 substitution. Sometimes it works without sounding "ringy." Sometimes the dissonance bubbles hurt my eyes, but at least I know when I get it wrong.
@RosieBergonzi

Dissonance bubbles is such a good way to say it! I love that our ears can always tell us if its 'right or wrong', music theory just gives us some clues as to why! I'm really glad its useful.

@@RosieBergonzi I have synesthesia and can see sound. I've always wanted to play an instrument, but every one that I tried affected me in certain ways that made practicing a struggle. I tried guitar for years, but I couldn't put in the practice hours. Then some wonderful person invented tongue drums and another wonderful person gave one to my son. I had to buy my own. It's the only instrument I've ever been able to play for hours and not feel discomfort or pain from the mistakes. I still get the dissonance bubbles in my eyes if I make a really bad strike, but that's nothing compared to what the cello or violin can do to me. I'm 40 and I can finally learn music. I'm saving up for a Rav Vast C Golden Gate. I'll be selling my guitar for Vast money.

@@RosieBergonzi I I think it's because I got thick short thighs and when I sit, my stomach pokes out a bit which leaves my hand pan less room and surface area to evenly be place. I might have to get a proper drum stand or devise a contraption that can support the hand pan while sitting on the ground without muffleing the sound hole at the bottom 🤷‍♂️

Thank you so much for the video instruction. I have been playing my hand pans for a couple years and learned more from this video than any other. I play straight from the heart and your cord explanations will go a long way in helping me to stay out of a rut. My other hand pan is a B Low Minor. Do you have a video which breaks that scale into chords? I will be going through your videos…you are very talented and I love some of your work on the keyboards.

Im so confused and i consider myself a smart person.. But im totally confused.. Why are there two number 5s etc etc... Im so lost
@RosieBergonzi
@RosieBergonzi 2 жыл бұрын
Hello, sorry it's unclear to you. I use a system based on the notes of the scale, to help with understanding the harmony of the pan. There are two 5s because the fifth note in the scale (in this case 'A') appears twice on this pan. This means when you come to make a chord with an A in you have multiple options. Does that help clarify?
