These vids are helping me to understand the "families" of synths and how the Volca FM and the Digitone are brethren. You can certainly hear it in the longer, evolving (and even rising) tones. This has all been quite a journey. Thank you!

Digitone has linear envelopes. Sounds like volca has exponential envelopes.

I just want to say thank you for explaining me how to use this little and powerful instrument. fm is my first synt and my first introduction in this world of synthetazers

Nice one (again). I was messing with ptr and ptl last night and got some cool bell/Doppler type noises. Thanks for this.

+Dino Goldie there are lots of nice things you can do with pitch envelopes - it's actually an area of programming that I tend to overlook a lot of the time, so it's always a pleasant surprise when I remember about it!

I was bidding on ebay for a digitone and I am glad I cant now afford it because there is still so much to learn on the volca. My plan is to make as much music with pocket operators and volca fm, as I can and by performing and selling that music, afford more pro gear. But maybe Ill just keep ding this forever

great demo as usual. I was going to see if you can demo how to start with a blank or start sound from scratch ( simple wave )? or is it as simple as setting all the parameter to 50?

+80m tekeste I'm planning on doing that in a couple of videos time - right after the algorithms video, because by then I'll be able to explain why I do most of the stuff I do.

First of all: Great video series about this little synth. So the Pitch EG affects all operators? No on/off for each op?

Correct.

@@OscillatorSink yes well just like in the DX7... i am too used to my SY77 😀

Is L4 supposed to sustain indefinitely once a key is released, or does the envelope only travel to L4 at the rate of R4 and then immediately stop? The DX7 manual says it should sustain, however I only notice it traveling to L4 at the rate of R4, then stopping. This happens on both my FM and Reface DX, so maybe I just misinterpreted the manual?
@OscillatorSink7 жыл бұрын
+MelVinMaSsaCrE if we're talking about the Operator envelopes, then if L4 is higher than 0, then the note will sustain indefinitely UNTIL you run out of voices. But bear in mind that this only applies to operators acting as carriers - if you apply L4 to a modulator, you'll only hear that effecting things while you can hear a carrier it's attached to (same applies to the pitch L4, you'll need to have a carrier playing to hear the effects). (I've just confirmed this on my unit because I hate giving information without double checking!)

+MelVinMaSsaCrE oh, interestingly one of the things Korg updated in their last firmware update is quoted as "Fixed EG4 Implementation". I'm running the up to date firmware (released November last year), are you?
@MelVinMaSsaCrE7 жыл бұрын
Hmm... I was under the impression mine had the most recent firmware version, but it would seem I missed the update entirely. I looked at the update info on Korg’s website and noticed a Key Velocity Sense fix too. Mine only goes up to 6. Thanks for the quick reply, you told me the exact information I needed to know. Cheers!

thing i noticed, when i checked my firmware it actaly says 1.04 while the newest one you can download at korgs site is 1.03, wut?
@OscillatorSink7 жыл бұрын
+NEOANGIN I saw a post about this somewhere online. They confirmed with Korg it was 1.03 and the read out is wrong or something? Can't find the post now, but I think it might have been on reddit.

I can’t hear the clicks you’re talking about at all. Maybe it’s because my ears have been around the sun some 50-odd times?
@georat16 Жыл бұрын
I'm 55 and very protective of my hearing. This makes me wonder what frequency (or how many cycles) those clicks are at. Best of luck with it all--the science, physics and psychology of sound are all super interesting.
