I’ve had squamous cell carcinoma twice on my tongue. First time(28 years ago) partial glossectomy and radical neck dissection. Last year it came back so surgery was a bit more invasive, 6-8 hour surgery. Removal of half my tongue replaced with skin graft from left arm and transposition of the ulnar nerve. That was 4 months ago. Skin graft area of my tongue still a little swollen but I eat , drink and talk just fine. I’m a survivor 👍🏻.

That is a remarkable story, Kathy! ♥️ Would you be willing to participate in our awareness campaign for head & neck cancer survivors? It's called 30 Stories in 30 Days. We share survivor's stories to give other patients just starting on their cancer journey some hope and to demystify what lays ahead for them.

@@thancfoundation sure, I’d be happy to tell my story, let me know what I need to do. When I went for this last surgery I had no idea what to expect, how I would be after the surgery, and my what my recovery would be like when I got home. I still have some residual side effects from the surgery (my left vocal chord is paralyzed and I some facial paralysis), but according to my drs with time it should get better.

My fiancé just got diagnosed with this and I am trying to keep it together which I know I will because I have faith that everything will be all right and you sir I just wanna let you know it doesn’t matter if your face changed or your neck changed you’re alive! And only a shallow person would care about what the other person looks like it’s the heart that you should really be looking at when you’re looking at a person anyway and I’m glad you’re OK! And I’m really glad that you have a understanding loving partner next to you!

I was diagnosed with SCC in 2017. Scariest time of my life, my oncologist said to me at the beginning, she’s going to be a long road but we can fix it. Il never forget those words. I never thought once that I was going to die, ever!! Got the chemo and a month of intensive radiation (every day) it was behind my tongue and I had to feed for a year through a tube, but he was right, been clear three years now. Cancer takes you to places you never knew existed but I do believe that you come out the other end stronger and with a totally different outlook on life. All the best from Scotland. I was 51 when diagnosed. P.S. Don’t smoke kids, it’ll fck you up eventually.

I understand how facial abnormalities distroy our self esteam , there's so many aside from cancer as well, those born with a Permanente disorder.we have to be gratfull for the blessing we have, the one thing that annoys me is how blunt and rude peoples comments can be.

So I won't be surprised if these results are the same. I have a skin condition called Actinic keratosis / solar keratosis, its caused by sun damage. And can and does turn to carcinoma.
