Understanding the Cyber Security Industry

Cyber is a huge industry with a heap of different roles, some from the obvious we've always heard about like Pentation testing or Ethical Hacking all the way to incident response, cyber threat intel, Identity and Access management and more.
We discuss what some of these roles are, how much they pay and their barrier of entry both from experience and technical ability.

Is there a type of role in cyber that focuses more on low level embedded stuffs? Namely hardware, firmware, etc.

Unfortunately I don’t see many SOC positions advertised in AUS

As with most jobs these days it's more about who you know than what you know. Get out there and start meeting people in the field at conferences and meetups and befriend them.

Exactly what Richard said. You rarely ever find entry level positions advertised. I Guess this has an element of luck as well as networking.
