I love your video's! They are my "go to" source for good information. One thing to note is that the cross stops can also be used when joining long boards together. Align the pin in the edge of your previous hole and there is no limit to how far you can go with perfectly even-spaced mortises; they don't have to be aligned just from an end. My Parf Guide Mark 2 system is scheduled to arrive tomorrow, I can't wait to use it.

Hi Geoff, I used to have a big morticing machine but still had to make the tenons the hard way. I sold that machine and also my Lamello biscuit jointer and bought the DF500 from Axminster with a few accessories. That transformed my woodworking and I just wish that I had done it earlier. The Domino is a fantastic machine and mine is now 11 or 12 years old. It has never gone wrong and I am still using the original cutters. I have gone through many bags of 6 mm, 8 mm and 10 mm dominos and made some excellent joints (and the odd bish-up through haste or stupidity). Many thanks for your super feedback. Cheers. Peter

Hi Peter, I've been really enjoying your videos - such clear explanations - thank you! I was wondering if you've ever used your DF500 for internal doors? I am about to make some doors for a wardrobe but the doors will be similar in size to an internal door. Made from pine and with a mirror panel in each. 1 inch think timber. 4 inch wide stiles. I'm wondering if the dominos that the DF 500 works with would be large enough? I'd really appreciate your opinion before I start.
@NewBritWorkshop9 ай бұрын
Hi Kevin, Wardrobe doors should not be put under the same amount of strain as regular doors. I would be happy to use the DF500 if I did not have the DF700. I would use 8 mm dominos that are 50 mm long (Festool code 493299), placing two across each 4" joint. Do take great care in the gluing stage. Good luck. Peter

How odd, I replied to this but that reply has disappeared. I used a 19 mm cutter to cut a slot in the vertical face of the bench. Hello Peter! I hope you are doing well. I got a question if you could help out. I normally use 5x30 dominos and this past week I started using for the first time 10x50 ones. And the question is: when I plunge on the tightest setting (the one you always use) the mortice comes perfect and snug to the domino, but when I plunge on the middle setting (+6mm) the domino doesn’t come so tight up/down, have ever heard something about this? Or is it just user error? Thank you!
@NewBritWorkshop2 жыл бұрын
Hi Yohann, On the tight setting a good proportion of the friction is at the edges of the domino. This is lost when the wider settings are used. Cheers. Peter
@yohannsantos49012 жыл бұрын
@@NewBritWorkshop Thank you, Peter! But shouldn´t the up and down movement be always tight apart from the setting? The setting should be only for side to side tightness, correct? Cheers!
@NewBritWorkshop2 жыл бұрын
Hi Yohann, Yes, it should but there is a bit more movement (and slightly less precision) on the wider settings. It is partly machine design and partly the extra movement caused by the greater oscillation. Peter

I am building a second 2’x4’ wall mounted bookshelf using a rabbet & dado joint at the corners. Cutting the dadoes on my router table isn’t too difficult, but getting the rabbet just right is “a bit fiddly” to say the least. Even on this simple project, a domino jointer would save me hours. Thank you for this excellent demonstration. For me, the fundamental question is whether I want to focus my efforts on the *process* of woodworking or on the *product* result. I do enjoy figuring out how to get something “right”; however, right now I need storage for my other workshop that has nothing to do with woodworking. In other words, I need the PRODUCT completed and a domino jointer would make that so much faster and easier. As a side note, that slot you have running around the edge of your table looks very handy for holding work pieces upright. I’m getting ready to make an MFT-type cutting and assembly table and that’s a detail I hadn’t considered before.

Hi Victor, Yes, I sold my big morticer when I bought the Domino and have never regretted that at all. Woodworking is a great hobby for retirement. Cheers. Peter

Hi Peter, thanks a lot always for replying to my questions. i am about to order plywood to make small storage boxes etc for drill and small tools and petty things at home. i was wondering, if i can use 4mm domino for 9mm ply or is it pushing it? you are lucky that your son plays such a nice piano.

Hi Mian, I will tell my son that - many thanks. Yes, go ahead and use those small dominoes in the 9 mm ply - I have done exactly that many times. Just watch that you do not get hydraulic locking and bring things together gently. Cheers. Peter

Sorry, I’m in US so doing the conversions. Is that 9mm thick ply? I thought the minimum stock thickness was around 14mm. Can you please confirm? Thanks.

I like your slow and even speed in showing all the little particulars. In my seventies and still have all my finger. Yes! keep them away from blades.

@@NewBritWorkshop Funny, My father's name was Parker growing up and for some reason he changed it to Peter later on, Parker to Peter. I have been doing woodworking professionally to semi professionally since the 70's in a large shared shop in San Francisco's warehouse district with a couple other young guys.Long since had to move out of there. I am self taught and call my woodworking grade "B". Always room to learn and improve. You talked me into getting the tool and the domino set with blades. Fortunately this next job will pay for it. Goodby to biscuits. My biscuit tool may date back to the 80's.

Hi Peter, You are doing the right thing - the Domino has transformed my woodworking and I sold my Lamello to buy it. Cheers. Peter

What? No FESTOOL sponsorship for Peter? Boo! Love all your New Brit Workshop videos. Purchased my FESTOOL Domino full kit set May 15, 2007 and I’m still learning more uses for this wonderful machine. Keep up your excellent instructional videos and creative tool enhancements. One day those SOB’s will recognize and appreciate your support. 😎🇺🇸

It is a great shame that we do not have any woodworking shows as the demos are so useful and it is nice to handle the kit before making a purchasing decision. Cheers. Peter

I found this incredibly helpful after my day of trying to do these exact joins for the first time with a domino. I was ready to give up woodworking entirely I was so frustrated! Thank you for explaining these concepts so well, I look forward to trying again tomorrow :)
