What an excellent talk, thank you. This is clear explanation for a training methos that is often misunderstood. The four quadrants/operant conditioning is huge in the dog training world except some trainers (the militant force free community) have gone off the deep end and will not use punishment or corrections in any form. This is not realistic and often this allows the dog to rehearse bad behaviors, some dogs are medicated or even euthanized for behavioral problems. Consoling bad behavior (leash reactivity) or more often a fear response (fireworks) encourages more of the same.

Greetings to you....from the North Carolina Mountains! I've been a horseman (woman) for over 50 years....I can't even begin to tell you..... just how many people I have witnessed rewarding their horses for bad, terrible and even very dangerous behavior, having absolutely no clue what they have just done. Waking people up to this.....can only be a good thing. Thanks for being a wonderful advocate for the horses..... most especially the Mustangs. You're a very talented , professional, compassionate and 'equine minded' horseman.....that I really enjoy watching. Thanks for sharing all your skills....and may you have an exceptional journey with the horse! Cindy 🐴

I love positive reinforcement. I’m riding bridle-less or in a neck rope because of the hard work we put in for a year with groundwork and liberty training. I wish more people used it, my horse loves our sessions, and winnies from a mile away to run and work with me. Mine is a mustang I got in 2022, we came a long way from the flighty, super aggressive horse she was when I got her. (And she wasn’t food aggressive, she was just genuinely more protective of herself and very afraid of people, blocking, etc.). Positive reinforcement changed everything, and she 100% knows when we are not doing a positive reinforcement session too, I just take the treat bag off lol, my horse knows, took a long time time to teach, but so worth it. Also when my horse is tied up, if she’s pawing, I just don’t come over, when she stops then I come over, she never has pawed again. Also thank you Sam, because of all the videos you, Camille, and so many others have put out, I was able to adopt my own mustang and be successful with it.

Such an amazing video! I love it when you sit down and explain some things in theory. Also very well done on the learning theory. I’m a psychiatrist and psychotherapist and whenever we write a report on how a behaviour developed in a patient we use the same terms. Cheers!
