Brilliant presentation. One of the best things I have watched on KZbin in a while and I am saying this as an Electronics and Communications Engineer. Maybe a follow up or a somewhat complimentary video could be the 5G industry ecosystem - OEMs (Apple, Samsung), 5G network equipment providers (Nokia, Ericsson, Huawei), telecom operators (Verizon, T Mobile, AT&T and Jio/Airtel in the Indian context), tower REITs (Crown Castle, AMT), 5G chip manufacturers (Qualcomm, Skyworks, Marvell, NXP) and optical fiber cable manufacturers (Corning).

Good attempt Raunak, just to add Indians are involved in many Fabs world wide. Unfortunately gov policies are inadequate to pull investments into this lucrative but strategically important sector. India is missing many opportunities to enter this sector. Indians have number of PhDs but very few who can apply their knowledge to scale at industrial level.

Hi Raunak, I am a investor of PPFAS fund for quite sometime now and I follow you guys regularly in AGMs. I have worked in AMD India and ASML, Netherlands and I have some understanding of the products. Your presentation truly captures the essence of the industry. I have one question for you, if you can help me to answer. I have some shares of AMD through RSU and ESOP and I continue to hold them from last 6 years. Till very recently, that used to account for only 20-30% of my entire portfolio but thanks to the recent run-up in the share price, now it is more than 60% of my entire portfolio. I regularly follow news about AMD.. But do you think I should sell few shares to get out of the anxiety of loosing a lot of money.

It is very important for India to become a manufacturing hub for semiconductors. Start with smaller IC's and memory chips then build on that. Intel has a plant in Bangalore but I am not sure what it manufactures. There are a few small companies but nothing in large scale(which is needed for jobs). We need investments from Samsung and TSMC

Appreciate the content Raunak ! How China is trying to be aatmanirbhar ? What's the Huawei edge ? Look fwd to the reply.. though the question might not be directly related to subject video 👍
@pratikdave8967
@pratikdave8967 3 жыл бұрын
Well If you see Huawei is really not aatmanirbhar, -Just a few months back when the US imposed sanction on them, after that they stopped designing chips (reason: 90% EDA tools are owned by US companies) and due to that biggest beneficiary is MediaTek and Qualcomm -They never had Fab, always depends on TSMC (now Huawei and TSMC can do business under US sanction as well but the problem is even TSMC using EDA and some Tools which were licensed by the US, so ultimately they need to stop chip designing) "If you really consider complete aatmanirbhar then the only US names in that, all other are depends on them directly or indirectly"

Excellent overview. Thanks for sharing. A few comments to help improve further. Many times you say you will discuss this later, I cannot keep track of those. You should reflect on India's failed attempts to enter the fab market with state-owned enterprises even before Taiwan and Korea. India does not lack the vision but bureaucrats-driven execution has failed. Private-led government-supported execution might work. What do you think? Elites will be happy with the status-quo fetching high-paying design jobs in India and beyond. With a booming large domestic market, the time is ripe for the manufacturing, test, and assembly stages of the semiconductors to democratize job creation.

at 10.42 u have mentioned that the 7nm means distance between the transistors, but as per my understanding it is the size of the transistor or the gate length
@oraunak
@oraunak 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for bringing it up. Subsequent to this recording I also learnt that these numerical nano meter metrics are merely placeholders for the process technologies used which vaguely represent the density of transistors on a chip. Thank you for watching the video. Please let me know if you spot any other inconsistencies / some oversimplification. I will correct it in the comments.
@er.vishnuprasadpandey7886
@er.vishnuprasadpandey7886 2 жыл бұрын
@@oraunak thanks for the revert. This gate length or transistor size can be considered as an indicator of increased density (as smaller the size, more transistors can be fit in) but the other factor that decides the density is the distance between the transistors( which depends on interconnections between them), the type of technology used for fabrication ( how fine it can place transistors) etc.
