Hello Pranav Ji! I have been looking for ways to induce vegetative growth on old shoots (older than two years; say 3 to 5 year old) on apple, that have become thicker laterals over the years. Honestly, I'm not even sure how vegetative buds (or sleeping eyes) look on multiple year old wood and consequently where exactly to induce vegetative growth through a pruning cut on such shoots (if that’s possible at all). Of course, this enquiry pertains mainly in context of old, traditional and large apple trees (Delicious Strains) that could potentially be encouraged to grow fresh shoots that would eventually lead to forming fresh reproductive buds or spur clusters. I wonder if you could post a video showing such vegetative buds on multiple-year-old-wood and perhaps also explain if a pruning cut near such bud would lead to similar results as a headback cut on vegetative bud on a fresh (one year old) shoot? For sure there has to be points / specific kind of "concentric rings", “dormant buds”or “sleeping eyes” or whatever other names they are called by. Just wanted to know about such areas on the trees that could visually indicate such "potential (vegetative) growth points" on old wood. This would help us in making a better decision on implementing a cut near it while pruning.

You question is a little confusing but also made me think what i felt in most part of kinnaur. Lot of farmers apply flush cuts on old branches and leave to space for new renewals to come. If that is the case nothing much can be done other than notching the sleeping eyes. Also showing every thing on video is limited to my challenges with shooting as i am not professional and the process of shoot is difficult as my pruning is sill going on and I don’t have much time for shoots. I hope to do a farmers meet soon to explain my practice to fellow farmers who want to understand what i am trying to do.
