Triton method saved my reef and my interest in this hobby. I have used it for the last 9 months and I've never had better results.

Loving the growth of the Chanel and the content. Seeing your reef is literally my dream and till mine grows out some and I get my upgraded 260 gallon set up I’m saving the tank till I buy all my equipment up and front so I don’t have to “buy it twice” but man. I can’t wait I have the new skimmer two return pumps for redundancy dosing pumps and gyres. Once I’ve got it all I’ll transfer it all over and hopefully that will speed up the process for the 260 gallon. I want to start getting into SPS corals but am holding off till I get the bigger tank. It’s hard to do flow well in a mixed reef for a 100 gallon and I went overboard with the live rock. I can’t wait to re aquascape

Another great vid sam, it seems that we are lucky to have these guys over here in Australia not that there other facility's are any different but if people want to get into it here we would have some top notch guidance to go with there method it seems ,obviously triton has been around for a long time but it seems like its only now that everyone is only just starting to get a greater understanding of trace elements and there importance and what products to use, this type of information is what we need to help further the hobby for sure ,I would be very interested to here his thought's on salt too. 👍

Thanks for the great feedback! I agree, we are super lucky that guys like Ehsan and Julian are here and willing to share their knowledge with us all. We can all only benefit from the additional knowledge and lift the reef keeping game as a whole
@Jacky-px3gt3 ай бұрын
Insightful as always Sam :) Touching on the idea of biotope tanks, I think the issue is the lack of information hobbists have about where the corals originated from. Once they reach us at the LFS they are simply "queensland" or GBR coral, but these guys are collected all around darwin, the croc islands, cairns, yeppon, mackay, etc. If greater emphasis is placed in the precise origination of coral species, I'm certain we'll have more folks trying it out.
@ParkersReef3 ай бұрын
Yeah that’s a solid point, these guys are in a fortunate position where by they can view where the corals are growing and replicate that piece of the ocean which is pretty cool. Hopefully are collection standards may evolve to that in the future?

Great Video Sam! Thanks to Triton for sharing with us! I would love to see them get a male torpedo wrasse (Pseudocoris heteroptera) for their tank. It would be something quite different from the norm, but still suitable and is found in their biotope. Google it, they are a striking fish as a male!

Hey sam my tanks been running for about 6 months now without a fuge. Would you recommend starting one up? Do I replace my bio media section in my Sump for one and move bio in the same chamber as skimmer? Love the vids mate.
@ParkersReef2 ай бұрын
I’d highly recommend getting a fuge in the system. They provide a long benefits other than just nutrient export. See what you can do with your sump to make it all work :)
@lawrence19883 ай бұрын
Thanks for the Video Sam. Love your work. I have a question as I have been running triton method on my tank for approx 2 years now. My sump is hard to access to clean the refugium and remove the macroalgae when it grows so i am wondering if i can substitute the refugium filter with Carbon Dosing (Vodka) and upsized skimmer to control the nutrients.
@ParkersReef3 ай бұрын
The guys will respond no doubt, but in short, I don’t believe so. It’s a very different approach to nutrient export that will have very different outcomes. Of course you can do it, but it would deviate away from the method and introduce another variable
@badgerant19743 ай бұрын
Everyone thinks that the refugium is just a nutrient export filter. Very few understand that it also supplies food for your coral with all the larvae from the pods (copepods, isopods, amphipods, etc.) that live within it. Sam is right that organic carbon dosing also adds a range of variables as it relies on bacteria to do the work which can be very volatile in a closed system.

Another great showcase video Sam! I love the idea of the new Ilumagic x4 lights and their ecosystem features on the app - just wish we could get them over here in the UK! Will the guys at Triton be making use of the Dalua ecosystem features of the Ilumagics such as weather mapping etc?

Great video!!! Any links or advice from Esan about cycling under the triton method?
@ParkersReef3 ай бұрын
Great question!! Hopefully Ehsan or Julian can jump on and fill is both in
@badgerant19742 ай бұрын
Our recommendations for cycling your new aquarium are as follows… If using natural seawater then you can immediately add fresh live rock to the display tank, algae in the refugium and start lighting the aquarium as you would normally for 3 -4 weeks without adding any fish or coral and do not dose anything. Monitor the usual parameters and any alkalinity consumption over this time and if a drop in dKH is observed then start dosing Core7 Base Elements accordingly. If using artificial seawater then mix and fill the aquarium. After one week add live rock to the display and algae to the refugium. Monitor usual parameters and for any Alkalinity consumption over the next 2-3 weeks and if dKH drops dose Core7 Base Elements accordingly. At this point your aquarium should be ready to add fish and coral. Hope this helps to answer your question 😀👍
@ParkersReef2 ай бұрын
Perfect thanks Julian!!
@DanielCassar-l9c2 ай бұрын
Wow thanks for such a detailed response Julian really appreciate it! My situation has a twist. So I’m likely to use natural seawater to fill and my scape is artifical and no sand bed in display. Would you suggest adding live rock to the sump in this instance to seed my artificial scape. I could also temporarily put live rock into my display. Further I expect parameter stabilization to slow down given lack of sand bed in display is it worth placing a sand bed in the sump for the first year? Or is a sand bed in display critical component to triton method. Sorry I realize i may be deviating from Triton method regarding these suggestions just seeking further advice if possible.

Nice series. Fun. What if I do not want to run carbon or GFO (because it needs to be replaced, and it is messy (gfo), how does Triton manage that or is it a non starter?
@petarst3 ай бұрын
you can do it, but than you don't follow full Triton method.
@ParkersReef3 ай бұрын
That would depend on your bio load. If phosphates are kept in check there is no need for GFO

@@ParkersReef I agree. I took what he said, and later read, as it was part of the overall methodology and thus required. Ty again and for the reply. Hope all is well.

I would appreciate if TRITON would document their method and how to apply it in more detail. A book is long overdue. To my knowledge there exists only a 3 page German document on the internet. But obviously there is much more relevant to it. And it’s very unscientific to collect the relevant knowledge from hundreds or online videos. We need an all-encompassing description.
@ParkersReef3 ай бұрын
yeah that is a fair request! I must admit, there could be good documentation out there, but it is not easy to find. I will chat with the guys and see if something cannot be done to change that (Y)

It can be hard to get rid of unintentional speech devices. I say a bucket load of “umms” and “you knows” when speaking. Americans and Canadians say “right” a lot after making statements. And a lot of KZbinr cooks and DIY handypeople say “Go ahead and…” before giving an instruction. These devices aren’t ideal. But I don’t think there is a person alive who doesn’t do them due to the influence of TV and KZbin etc. Personally- I think Sam is in the top 95 percentile in the art of presenting and speaking on KZbin. Sam also says “for sure”, “yeah”, “really”, “absolutely”, “of course” “beautiful” and “okay” many times. He is using all these in combination to agree with the other presenter. Showing the presenter he is attentive, interested and part of the conversation. So I disagree with you. I think Sam’s conversational skills are of a very high standard. The “yeses” do not annoy me in the slightest.

@@LS10Works Yes, I get that you were just trying to help. I did give you a thumbs up before I typed up that first response. But I don’t think it works to try and correct it at a late age. My boss told me to get rid of “you know,” in my sentences. I would say something like: “This is the better method of, you know, getting the best out of the system.” The more I thought about it the more I inadvertently used it.
