Critique makes you better as an artist. Most people don’t understand the process and dedication it takes to create art. Some people will like it, some people won’t, you just have to stay true to your own voice because if you’re you’re an artist, you’re not going to quit, it’s in your blood, it’s in your bones, it’s in your brain, it’s in your heart, and the only way to quit is to die…..

In certain instances, yes, critique can help improve your art, specifically if it’s in the realm of realism or if technical skill is required to reproduce an image (such as shadow, line weight, composition etc). However, non-representational art, abstract or purely expressive works, in my opinion, are hard to properly critique. For example, a critic of an abstract piece could say: “this piece utilized color theory rather poorly, and feels clunky and unbalanced.” The artist may say “exactly. This piece expresses my inner feelings of imbalance and conflicting emotions.” And the artist isn’t wrong for saying that. The critic isn’t wrong, either, if it doesn’t speak to them, but they are wrong in the sense that it has to follow a particular mold.

@@HappyAccidentVideos This is why AI art should exist and demolish whatever it wants; it is an expression of those who designed it. They are the artist and are just expressing themselves through coding an AI that can take your image and make it with it what it wants. The sword cuts both ways.

My mom was a professional artist but in print media. Before computers she did everything freehand for print media company’s would contract through the agency she worked for. She did stuff like the bic lighter’s logo and some stuff for camel cigarettes 🚬 and even a click it or ticket 🎫 logo for California highway patrol. She was definitely 💯 an artist very talented with endless potential. She gave up art by the end of her 30s and never painted again really till she died. I always tried to get her to paint

Thanks so much for this! Yes, I could make 17 more of one painting in diff colors. but I would ALSO be true to myself and do what I want. I was in music and had a lot of the same sort of thing. But also doing what you want and need to do is important. Keep up the great work and thanks for the advice to us new artists.

I used to have a framer here in Carmel, CA. I also used to make my own, as I worked with a framer as an apprentice in high shcool. In recent years, I order frames from Dick Blick online. Most of my larger paintings, I don't frame; I just paint sides.

I been seeing so many showing viewers a tracing of an animal, or domestic to do in pastels. Others actually show HOW to Trace and transfer the phono onto the caper or canvas, without ever learning how to do it without tracing and Coping from a phot. I mentioned.to them, about trying to show how when they the artists tracing, that it shows to do it without a tracing. ONE said to know the anatomy that is Plagiarizing too. I mentioned, this is why so many art galleries do NOT accept realistic work. How to be TRUE when so many are Faking it.?

Heres what it means. You are at the understanding that your artwork might suck to some but not others. My grandmother was a professional artist. She was a sculptor and painter and made native american jewelry. She was the great grandaughter of Chief Washakie. Her last installment was for the Smithsonian, but sadly, she died before ever completing it. After that, our family turned on one another and killed her legacy.

70% for the gallery is now the standard and it's outrageous. Artist run galleries and coops are the way to go; except most artists don't want to or lack skills running a gallery.

I worked in both the field of teaching art history, 3 colleges locally and a private school as well. I also worked in the field of counseling in the area of psychiatry for the schizophrenic, as well as receiving a grant to work at the Soledad Correctional State Facility to paint (at the time) the worlds longest wall mural, it was half a mile long. This was also done with help from the inmates. I've done quite a few things in my career, teaching art was always something I did part time. All of this work was done so I could sustain myself, and make time for my art. This was so I would not be at the mercy of the galleries. I could create the kind of art I wanted to make.
