Our kids are drawn to digital devices. Between remote learning, peer pressure, social media and general entertainment and communication, today’s generation is constantly staring at a screen. What is a parent to do? Based on his latest book Parenting Generation Screen, Jonathan McKee equips parents with insight and general guidelines to promote safety and healthy boundaries as they navigate a screen-driven world with their kids.

No smart phone until my child can pay for it themselves, we already keep the computer in the common area. So dumb phone until they get a smart job.

I try to get across to my boys that the internet can be useful but is also a dangerous placusage. They aren't allowed to randomly search the internet or KZbin, they need to come to us first and ask about what they want to search and why. We monitor their tablet useage. We put a time limit on video games. On Tuesdays and Thursdays is no electronics day for the whole family. We try to keep an open dialog with them about screen useage. Edit: we have a no screens in the bedrooms, no tv/tablet/phones.

You're part of a reason why my marriage ended! Listening to your family advice and implementing your ideas in the relationship to reunite that spark. Which caused the ex to demand to go out drinking every weekend with friends, and when she didn't get her way, she complained of how I was a bad person to her mom. Than the in-law pursueded her daughter to cheat and caused a divorce. My situation with a person could've gone two different ways depending on where their faith rested, but I chose to temporary respond like the book of Job with my loss, and let justice prevail. That is when my freedom of relgion was violated, and endorsed by the state. To the point where judiciary respondents ignored their own oaths and state statutes to act biased towards a parent seeking biblical counsel for their scripted requirements; and the barr association denied my Right, while allowing falsified documents into court procedures. I sure hope your teen doesn't go through that abuse of power!!!

We're very sorry to hear about your divorce, Troy. As part of our ministry here at Focus on the Family, we have a staff of counselors available to offer reassurance, answer questions, and pray with you. We’d like to invite you to call one of them at your convenience. Just call 800-232-6459 between 6:00 A.M. - 8:00 P.M. (MT), Mon - Fri. The Family Help Center staff member who answers the phone will arrange for a counselor to call you back. There’s no cost for this -- we just want to come alongside you in any way we can.

I delayed giving my teen a phone until 17y of age but found that she had bought a simcard and carried it around and would 'borrow' others' phones to insert her simcard and get around her parents' restrictions.

I didn't get a phone until I was 18. And even then I didn't want it. My mom wanted me to have it because she had been in a car accident and didn't have a phone and the other person did and tried to blame her.
