Political meritocracy should be the future in the West as well. It would make for much more competent leaders.

When present PAP Govt was elected in 1959 ,they began grooming promising party cadres to rise thru the ranks basis meritocracy. Other than the cabinet,they had barbers,tailors,teachers,food vendors elected by the people. Not all applicants are accepted as most were not suitable material to groom. Eventually they went out to recruit proven merit professionals. Party is not beholden to election fund donors. Election funds are raised within the party. PAP been ruling since 1959.
