Thank you so much for this! As a special education teacher, it’s so important to see things from the parents’ point of view and consider how they are doing with all of this info.

Tip for the schools: Don't make it out to be like the kid is on trial. Tip for kids and parents: Do your research, know your rights, know the law and be clear on your advocating for your child.

Thanks for your suggestions. They’re helpful to address my sons needs (weaknesses) p. It was very disappointing to hear that my child was not able to read or write. The team really made me feel intimidated the first iep he had and his teacher had the nerve today she could only be there for 10 minutes and left the meeting. I too wanted to say something but burst into tears instead. I was angry and couldn’t even speak.

If your child has an IEP get an advocate involved. You are your childs only advocate. Anything that they tell you you do not have to agree to.

Hi I have questions I was test in my previous school and qualify for iep then I change school with the same state do they have to retest me
@UnderstoodOrg5 жыл бұрын
Hi liv fox, thanks for reaching out. If you transfer to a new school within your current school district, your child's IEP doesn't change. But if you transfer to another school district, your child may need a new IEP. Keep in mind that while Understood.org was written with parents in mind, this article lays out the different scenarios, and what can happens to the IEP in each: www.understood.org/en/school-learning/choosing-changing-schools/finding-right-school/what-happens-to-your-childs-iep-if-you-switch-schools We hope this helps.

@@UnderstoodOrg The way I read liv fox's word, I think they are the student with the IEP.
