Jake was honestly lightyears ahead of his era. He didn't have angles and matches, he told stories. And his character was so brilliant; balancing out the creepy dark-side with a normal realistic person. Jake The Snake wasn't a make believe monster from a fantasy story. What modern fans call storylines the old timers call angles. And Jake most definitely had matches. But the storytelling aspect was done in the ring back then. The promos were short, sweet, and to the point. Their whole purpose to build the angle around the program (the guy he was working with) so you’d go to the house shows. That’s where they made their money and why they worked 300+ days a year. Unless you were Hulk Hogan and then you worked 600 days a year because you were flying back to Japan everyday and crossing the international date line 😂 But I agree. Jake was a master craftsman who elevated everyone he worked with. He even made the job guys look good!

They recorded 4 episodes of RAW so the show ran over 5 hours with setups etc. Undertaker was out 4 or 5 times and, every time, the crowd went berserk, even though he was the heel! He worked with Ultimate Warrior and the crowd was totally behind Taker. Being pretty close to the ring, I saw Taker react it to a couple of times. He was working heel but the energy of the crowd behind him kinda caught him off guard a couple of times.

Jake's DDT was like watching a snuff movie. my mom actually tried to ban WWF in our house twice, when Jake laid the DDT on Ricky Steamboat and when Jake sicced that snake on Macho Man (that was on Saturday morning btw, when kids were watching in their PJs!). 11 year old me never would have thought I'd be sitting here thinking I'd like to have a beer with the Undertaker.

Man to hear the back story on this years later from The Undertaker himself is amazing. Its awesome how he praises Jake Roberts. Those guys had a good run and did some scary shit lol. Tried to kill Sid Justice, planting cobras in gift boxes, hitting grooms at his own wedding with funeral urns. Some of WWE's best material came from Jake and Taker. The angle with them and Warrior was crazy too. Amazing stuff. Will never forget it. Felt real.

Taker and Jake would've been great as tag champs.

I remember the Undertaker's face turn. I was 14 and "smartened up" if you will, and even still, that euphoric adrenaline rush is unforgettable. The big dead man had a good streak in him!

Just to hear those micro cassettes. I could imagine stuff being recorded over, but I do hope that he compiled some of the best ideas onto another tape.

Given what I know about Jake the Snake, I'm impressed he even made it to wrestling, let alone achieve what he achieved in terms his legendary status. His story is one of my favorite redemption stories.

That segment with Jake and Taker in the funeral parlor was one of the coolest things I had ever seen at the time.

They would show kids on TV during Undertaker's entrance with music and they were terrified. Like introducing the devil himself and he had a natural turn. Absolutely brilliant.

I love Takers reasoning behind his Mt Rushmore picks. Cause yes it should be about their contributions to the industry, and what impact they made. And I for one would include him on my Mt Rushmore for his contributions and impact as well, he is the GOAT!

Jake always one of my favorites. Glad to hear good jake stories

Jake is on my mount rushmore of promos. Him, Flair, Dusty and The Rock. Jake had such a cold look to him and a lot of that was likely due to real life issues he faced both as a child and adult. But he didnt have to go to any extreme to be evil. He just oozed it. His facial expressions, timing, tone, pace, and body language was always on point.

One of the best things from this feud was Macho Man hitting Jake with a chair and listening to Jake Roberts screeching like a dying raptor. 😂

Those two should've been tag team champions, they were great.

The Undertaker, aka Mark Calaway is one of the Mount Rushmore wrestlers of all time! Jake Roberts was my favorite, but The Undertaker walking the top rope was unreal!

I remember Jake using lines from Ozzys songs in his promos. Always thought that was cool.

The turn from Summer Slam 91 to Survivor Series 91 and then to WrestleMania 8 was all perfect transitioning and the Hogan - Taker Survivor Series, just being in thne building that night was amazing and then the passing of the torch with Hogan and Jake really swung it. Even now you wish they would've completed the Jake vs Ultimate Warrior feud with Undertaker involved as those vignettes from the 90's especially were always cinematic episodes, rather than just promo's. Old school wrestling will never be topped and everyone should go back as Mark says" the match is half over before I get to the ring" because wrestling isn't about the in ring, but the whole story from beginning to end, every layer, every chapter and the ride you are taken on..

As a 12 year old kid at Survivor Series 91, I and probably a hundred others were rocking some form of Taker style. It was amazing to be there.

Macho Man deserves to be mentioned with those names...100 years from now, he'll still be imitated and spoken about.

Jake's promo for this match was one of the best of his career. "The DDT is where it lies Big Man" great line from Jake.

I did the same thing with a recorder for lyrics for my metal band. Whether it was from TV, movies, people talking, something I saw or just a random idea. Anything for something to inspire a theme or a topic to go on. I'm sure a ton of people did that. But man, Jake was a SNAKE the way he came across, so cold calculating and ominous with his words. Sometimes just a stare! I remember seeing him at Rupp Arena when I was a kid in the 80s , and I wasn't even on the floor, I was in the lower arena, and I swear he pointed right for what seemed like a minute which was in realty 3-5 seconds at me and stared through my soul! Hell, he probably wasn't even looking at me , but it sure felt like it .
