just subbed , huge wwf wwe fan since 1986 , i know mark wont remember this , or maybe he will , but it was either Rock Bottom ,or Monday Night Raw here in Vancouver , 1999 , 2000 i beleive , but me and my best friend Shawn we went to YVR airport and we got to see the Undertaker , walking past customs security , right beside us where we were waiting , and Undertaker had a security guy , he was about 5 foot 8 bull 350 solid pounds , he stuck his arm out and said no pictures, anyways we still laugh about the whole thing , Taker looked tired but he did say whats up , so that was cool , cheers PK Vancouver

His run from 1990 to 95 doesn't get enough credit due to that being a down period and some of his opponents. That match with Yokozuna at Royal Rumble 1994, had no right being as good as it was given the style of the match.

Jake was honestly lightyears ahead of his era. He didn't have angles and matches, he told stories. And his character was so brilliant; balancing out the creepy dark-side with a normal realistic person. Jake The Snake wasn't a make believe monster from a fantasy story. He's that weird uncle or neighbor who doesn't seem quite right and who's house you'd be nervous to go to on Halloween.

What modern fans call storylines the old timers call angles. And Jake most definitely had matches. But the storytelling aspect was done in the ring back then. The promos were short, sweet, and to the point. Their whole purpose to build the angle around the program (the guy he was working with) so you’d go to the house shows. That’s where they made their money and why they worked 300+ days a year. Unless you were Hulk Hogan and then you worked 600 days a year because you were flying back to Japan everyday and crossing the international date line 😂 But I agree. Jake was a master craftsman who elevated everyone he worked with. He even made the job guys look good!

It’s like what Taker said about Paul Bearer when he was talking about his Mount Rushmore of wrestling managers. Undertaker IS the whole mountain. When you look at the eras of the WWE over the past three and a half decades and the top guys in that company, from Hogan/Savage, to Bret/HBK, to Austin/Rock, to Cena and eventually today with Roman Reigns, there’s been one constant and that’s The Undertaker. 6:20 Undertaker’s Mount Rushmore: 1) Andre “the Giant”, 2) Hulk Hogan, 3) Ric Flair, 4) “Stonecold” Steve Austin. Couple this with Vince McMahon, Ric Flair, and DDP identifying Steve Austin as The Goat, and you have a strong case for Steve Austin being the GOAT!

Jake Roberts is the all time greatest promo. the fact that he carried a recorder around with him like a songwriter or journalist shows you where his head was and how seriously he took it. as for Jake as the first actually scary guy, you have to understand the escalation of violence that was in the DDT. so much of wrestling was punches, kicks, submissions, clotheslines. Jake's DDT was like watching a snuff movie. my mom actually tried to ban WWF in our house twice, when Jake laid the DDT on Ricky Steamboat and when Jake sicced that snake on Macho Man (that was on Saturday morning btw, when kids were watching in their PJs!). Jake was pure malevolence.

Man to hear the back story on this years later from The Undertaker himself is amazing. Its awesome how he praises Jake Roberts. Those guys had a good run and did some scary shit lol. Tried to kill Sid Justice, planting cobras in gift boxes, hitting grooms at his own wedding with funeral urns. Some of WWE's best material came from Jake and Taker. The angle with them and Warrior was crazy too. Amazing stuff. Will never forget it. Felt real.

Ultimate Warrior was my guy until the Dead Man came along. I was 10 years old when Taker stuffed the Warrior in that casket on the funeral parlor. Yooooo that had me in tears. lol However, there was something about that Undertaker character that was very intriguing. Even as a super bad guy I just had to watch him wrestle and see his creepy promos. Taker turned face on SNE 1992. They didn't air that back stage incident with Jake until next Saturday on Superstars. When I think of classic Undertaker moments from that era it has to be when Jake showed up at the funeral parlor and slammed Taker's hand in the casket. Taker slowly stalked Jake back to the locker room with his hand stuff in the casket. Sick!!!! I missed those days. I would love to meet Taker at a signing one day. The Mfn G.O.A.T imo

Jake is on my mount rushmore of promos. Him, Flair, Dusty and The Rock. Jake had such a cold look to him and a lot of that was likely due to real life issues he faced both as a child and adult. But he didnt have to go to any extreme to be evil. He just oozed it. His facial expressions, timing, tone, pace, and body language was always on point.

The turn from Summer Slam 91 to Survivor Series 91 and then to WrestleMania 8 was all perfect transitioning and the Hogan - Taker Survivor Series, just being in thne building that night was amazing and then the passing of the torch with Hogan and Jake really swung it. Even now you wish they would've completed the Jake vs Ultimate Warrior feud with Undertaker involved as those vignettes from the 90's especially were always cinematic episodes, rather than just promo's. Old school wrestling will never be topped and everyone should go back as Mark says" the match is half over before I get to the ring" because wrestling isn't about the in ring, but the whole story from beginning to end, every layer, every chapter and the ride you are taken on..

the match between Jake and Undertaker was being built long before the Survivor Series 1991, this is when the WWF had long range visions. The seed for the WM8 match were being planted in the summer of 1991 during his feud with the Ultimate Warrior.

I have 2 mount rushmores. the 1st one is status and fame and helping put pro wrestling main stream. That list goes 1. Hogan (peak years 1984-2006) 2. Ric Flair (peak years 1981-2006) 3. Steve Austin (peak years 1996-2003) 4. Randy Savage (peak years 1(1985-2000) you see how with the exception of Austin who had a more electric 7 year stretch than arguably anyone else, the other three's prime was basically their entire careers. They were never out of style or off. My other mount rushmore is mainly dedicated to charisma, coolness, and in -ring ability. it goes like this: 1. Mr. Perfect Curt Hennig 2. Razor Ramon Scott Hall 3. Bret Hart 4. Undertaker.

The 80s era for wrestling and starting the wrestlemanias was the best thing that could have happened to the WWF. Been to some of the greatest matches back then and being to a Saturday nights main event was thrilling as a teen back in the day. I think the downfall to wrestling was taking the roids out of wrestling. It was like taking hot air out of a ballon and just watchit fizzle down.
@bdr113080

That was my first wrestlemania. I had been a wrestling fan, but really didn’t pay attention to the WWF that much in the 80s and less Hulk Hogan was on TV but me and my friends and all of our parents none of them really watch WWF. It was always WCW but in 1991 a lot of WCW guys were popping up on WWF TV and a lot of us started watching WWF along with WCW at the time. I wouldn’t say wrestlemania 8 is ever going to make anyone’s top five best wrestlemania of all time or anything like that, but it was always one of my favorites. How the stadium looked, the atmosphere, and even though it was a main event and the actual main event wasn’t the greatest match, it had a lot of star power. And honestly as a kid back then I really couldn’t tell you if it was a good match or not. It was just wanting your favorite wrestler to win the match. You didn’t care how pretty it looked. You were just emotionally invested. Now today it’s all about trying to get Dave Meltzer to suck you off and there’s no emotion at all involved. But that wrestlemania eight Had so many legends on it that were still in their prime, some of them were getting towards the end of their prime. Some of them were just hitting their prime, some were right in the middle, but you had Hogan, Flair , Savage, Sid , Undertaker, Jake Roberts, HBK, Tito Santana, Brett Hart , Piper , etc. god I miss those days.
