Grew up on Andre and Hulk. Loved the days of Taker and Kain. Benoit was the end for me. The man literally gave his heart and soul to WWF. They knew he was damaged. They knew he was hurt. Also Owen Hart. I watched it live on person. How the hell do you inform thr crowd Owan died, and keep the show going.

HBK aka heartbreak kid shawn michaels! It ended when him and taker wrestled at WM. Since then its soft as shit. I can hardly watch AEW and they’re different than wwe but still its not 1997 to 1999 WWF/WCW/ECW wrestling. That was the best time period in my opinion.

Stop bullshit gimmicks like the new day and acrobats who do 900 jumps per match and make it hardcore and raw again. I mean some of these guys are standing on the top rope to do a jump in a frikkin rumble match where you're supposed to stay away from the top rope. It's dumb asf.

@@t.s.p1864 It's on too much. That's the main problem. The athletes of today are way better. That's a lot of time to see wrestlers. Back in the day it wasn't on that much in the 80's & early 90's. The wrestlers were way worse. Then you have Sincara who "dislocated" a finger and just walked away from a match.

Keep in mind that knowledge about CTE back in the day was not known to the general public. Concussion protocol was literally "get back up or you're a pussy." So a lot of wrestlers took unnecessary chair shots to the head, went through undiagnosed concussions without rest, and took dangerous drugs to either null the pain or look good for Vinnie Mac and other promoters. Nobody is doubting the toughness of Taker and the wrestlers of yesteryear, but today's standards are in place because a lot of wrestlers are dead in the name of trying to "tough it out." Unrelated, but Sin Cara was a bitch for stopping a match over a dislocated finger. Also, stopping a match over a little blood is also pretty dumb. You should only stop that if it's Eddie Guerrero blood loss level. However, there are times when wrestlers who were busted open contracted Hep C.

WWE today is so clean cut and family friendly it's like The Fast and the Furious franchise (RIP Paul Walker). The first movie set the pace and there was a clear storyline; now they're just adding in random actors and superstars because that is the only way they will get people to watch it. Like every movie with Samual L. Jackson; people love him so they will watch the movie only for him. They have movie ratings for a reason; G, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17. They're there so parents will know what the content of the movie will be like and make them decide whether or not their child can watch it or not. If parents are so worried about what their child may hear on TV, tell them not to watch it! And if for some reason they do watch it and they pick up "inappropriate" behavior and language it's not the WWE's fault; it's their fault since they don't know how to operate parental controls on their TV. At least back then, you had blood, profanity, violence, and attitude ! The point is WWE should not be responsible for what they say and how it affects children. If they know it's a "bad word" then they should know better not to say it.

All professional wrestling companies eventually forget that their characters are supposed to FIGHTERS. Keyfabe or not, the art of professional wrestling at it's heart is about men and women going into a ring and physically beating each other. Whether it be by weapons, holds, slams or submissions wrestling is about combat. There's always a precarious balance to strike there but I think most wrestling companies need to start leaning more into that aspect of wrestling than the entertainment. Violence and sex sells. These promotions seem to have forgotten that.

Fans got spoiled with the Attitude Era, which was like the Golden Age of NBA or Heavyweight Boxing. The fundamental/technical skills of the Wrestlers of that era were far superior than the Wrestlers of today. Wrestlers may get bigger, faster and stronger with modern conditioning, but they don’t have the grit like the Wrestlers of the 90’s/2000’s did, as Undertaker was alluding to. It’s also a no-brainer that in this digital age, the psychology and expression of flow with storytelling is different now. No one has quite figured out how to perfectly present the psychology of storytelling in this current era of Pro Wrestling. There isn’t the dimensions and layers to characters now that there were in past decades.

The fall of WCW was a big reason for that. Because when WCW was there and wrestling was hot, every young men wanted to be a wrestler and they came from all over. You had a big well of talent. Whereas when WCW fell, the interest of wrestling fell as well. And instead of getting wrestlers who had travelled the World joining in, Vince McMahon was the only game in town, stopped listening to the fans and decided to manifacture talent in a corporate factory somewhere and you got guys like Cena that people rejected but he was a talent that Vince wanted to re-brand the company into something safe for a casual audience. Main event wrestling lost its balls. And with WCW gone, it was one less place to learn proper wrestling. So now you've got guys that mostly come from the indies and have not learned psychology and fight for what you have. It's the spotfest galore and making wrestling into a joke.

How the hell did those guys wrestle so long despite having serious serious injuries. I called it the Dwayne Johnson effect. Everyone wants to make the big bucks ever since he left WWE for Hollywood. He changed the perspective of being in the limelight of WWE and utilizing the marketing which WWE developed to market the Rock. He would eventually enrich himself with juicy deals with outside producers in Hollywood. I don't have a lousy grudge against Dwayne Johnson. Nonetheless, the undertaker isn't pointing fingers at anybody, which is mind-boggling to me. He still has this level of professionalism for the WWE universe. Also, note Joe could be a bit more enthusiastic with Undertaker. I am a fanatic of Joe; however, the tone of this interview is horrible.

Joe is more interested in the character of the undertaker rather than professional wrestling itself.

Watch the whole podcast on Spotify. Joe was genuinely astonished and amazed how 'Taker managed to keep going year after year despite his horrendous injuries, especially to the orbital bone. Joe was also very intrigued by the conception of 'Taker's character and the twists in the storylines.

Attitude Era was the golden age of wrestling. I'm so glad I got to experience it growing up. Like all the stuff Connor McGregor pulls before a fight came from the days of Stone Cold flipping Triple-H's car and blowing stuff up. UFC took a lot of inspiration from Attitude era

Attitude era was good, but ruthless aggression era was best imo.. There was so much stars in that era that dominate the wrestling business for so long & became household name & made wwe more famous. After that, wwe's soft era started

The Golden age of pro wrestling and the Attitude era was the best of times. I feel those era's has everything for all ages and wrestlers that we can identify or relate to more than the boring and crappy product of today which is no comparison.

I mean kids want to be adults. That’s why they measure themselves and shit like that. The peak of wwe was marketing to young adults because I knew as a kid that this is intense

Undertaker spoke the facts. My man. One of my ALL time FAVORITE WRESTLERS. This generation is soft. Too sensitive and pathetic and hypocritical.

If *any* wrestler has any right to talk about the WWE going soft, it's taker. this dude has *seen it all* He has endured the Golden age, youth movement, attitude era, ruthless aggression, PG and all the way to the new era with the influx of indie talent. this man, in the most literal sense, has seen it all. so when he calls the product soft, you know he means it.

@@lexkanyima2195 You do know this is from a few years ago, right? And he can speak whenever and however the fuck he wants, he's the goddamn Undertaker who put in 33 years of his life for this business. Do we agree on everything, no, but this man, who has seen at least 6 or 7 generations of wrestlers come and gone, has every right to call it as he sees it

@@tobluetoblack but the way he said that, it felt people never want to be happy. They enjoy problems, after problems, after problems. It felt in reality people never wanted to be happy, in all walks of life. If you take away a opinion in terms anwsering the question. You just don't care about modern era at all. Taker has a long road.

@@lexkanyima2195 Then you don't know or understand myself nor Undertaker it seems. I grew up in the modern era with guys like Owens, Okada, Omega, Tanahashi, Reigns, Zayn, Styles, Samoa Joe, and all these amazing talents. And he didn't say it like he wanted to be unhappy. He just noted that there is a lost *edge* to the locker room yet he praises the shit out of AJ Styles, calling him one of the best wrestlers working today. And he was being insanely respectful in not giving away any names he just said what he believed. the people who came out after him, *they* are the ones who prove his point. If they hadn't reacted, a lot of people would have been like, meh that's just Taker being old. Now, it's not like I agree with Taker entirely. His era had a lot of legit tough guys but many in his era are dead and gone. the modern era, the locker room of nerds and gamers have an almost guaranteed assurance that they are gonna live longer lives which is wonderful. But don't say Taker has a long road. that dude has been on the road, paving it away for all the younger talent in the locker room today. Ken Anderson said it best. There are two mountains in the WWE, one with the Undertaker and one with the other guys. the other guys are throwing rocks and boulders at the younger talent saying "get the fuck off my mountain" and on the other is Undertaker, throwing ropes down to the young talent saying "Hey guys, the weather is great up here so get on up and let's make some money together." Saying Taker has long road is short sighted and shallow.

Back in the day when you had a ladder match, so many shit would happen that you could make a whole highlight real with all the ladder stunts pulled off. These days there is just exactly 1 stunt that is the whole highlight of the match.
