It's easy to get so caught up in the story of the underground that you really forget that there's a real world out there in the surface.

_You’re venturing around town with Sans after escaping the Underground. He’s chatting on, cracking jokes, the usual. He takes a moment to realize you had stopped walking a moment ago, fixated on a house that seemed.. different_ *everything.. ok kid? _Your silence tells him all he needs to know._ *reckon you know the place? _Again, your silence is deafening. Almost without thinking, you start to walk towards the house. It’s old, and looks like it hasn’t seen life in ages. Sans was right behind you._ *hey, kid.. maybe its just me, but i dont think breaking and entering is a very good idea. jus’ sayin- _You look back to him with a look he can’t really place.. forlorn? Sad? Just upset? He can’t seem to tell, but it shuts him up, and he steps closer as you go to turn the knob. Surprisingly, it’s unlocked._ _You take a moment to look around. Everything was worn, and faded.. it takes a moment to set in just what it all looks like now.. different than how you remember.. Sans stays respectfully quiet._ _You take a gander through a handful of rooms, the living room.. old and dusty, each step kicking up a small cloud of dust and dandruff from the old carpet. The kitchen, almost seeming frozen in time, with peeling wallpaper._ _Sans only follows you upstairs, catching the look on your face as you stand in front of your childhood bedroom door._ *c’mon kid.. we dont have to stay in here.. heh, im sure Paps is getting worried about us. _You hesitate, but push the door open, a chill going up your spine as the old hinges groan. Your old room.. it looks identical to how you left it that fateful day you left the house and fell into Mt. Ebbott.. dusty toys, some knocked over in the midst of play.. old drawings scratched in crayons, and your dusty, old bed, blankets thrown off lopsidedly from that morning you rolled out of bed.. you physically recoil as memories suddenly begin flooding back. Your friends coming over to play.. the nights you’d run to your parents room after a nightmare.. the other nights you’d hide under your bed, or in the closet hearing them fight.. it all looked exactly the same.. running to the other rooms, throwing the doors open, and.. empty.. bare.. nothing but wall paper and fixtures.. your family and friends didn’t just leave.. they forgot you.. tears quickly well in your eyes and you drop to the floor like a sack of boulders, sobbing uncontrollably. Sans flinching at the reaction, but quickly stepping up to comfort you. He seems worried._ *hey kid.. shh.. there there.. its okay.. *its.. itll be okay.. c’mon.. _He tugs at your shoulder and motions for the door. His naturally tired expression shifting to a more comforting look._ *lets get you home.. ill get Tori to bake us some pies..

Man the Concept of Time still moving on outside of the Underground sounds like horrifying good plot-twist like imagine instead of the photo we get at the end of the Pacifist Ending and not going with Toriel you get a scene of Frisk returning home only to realized they have no home to return to. Years might have possibly passed on by due to how many times you had to RESET to make everything right and now it makes ya wonder did they simply stay an orphan or did they simply just went to look for Toriel because at that point there really isn't a HOME to return to anymore. 😞 man now I'm depressed thinking these thoughts now hate it here!? 😭

When you respawn or restart, everyone outside the underground also goes back to that previous point (probably very confused as to why they suddenly gained intense dejavu like they've been at that point like 20 times now)

_You're finally here._ The garden is overgrown. Tall grass and small shrubs cover the once-neat lawn. Some of the paving on the garden path has been broken into pieces by the roots of the tree. The old tyre swing that you fondly remember has fallen to the ground. One end of the rope droops limply down from the branch where the swing was once hung. The paint on the front door is covered in cracks, and you can see the wood underneath. Lengths of wallpaper in the hall are peeling away. The curtains have been bleached and faded by the light of the Sun. Dust covers every surface in the living room. The grandfather clock stopped ticking a long time ago. The air inside the house is stagnant, and the earthy smell of mildew is everywhere. The flowers in the vase are dead, completely dried out, and come apart in your hands when you try to touch them. The window in the kitchen is broken, and a branch is trying to grow its way in from outside. Shards of glass from the window litter the countertop, and some on the floor crunch under your shoes as you walk over them. Several of the stairs are sagging, as the wood has started to rot. Countless flecks of black mold grow on the hall's ceiling, splattered across the white paint like abstract art. The framed photographs on the wall are covered in yet more mold and dust, leaving the glass too cloudy to see what's inside. There's moss growing on the damp carpet at the top of the stairs. The door to your room is swollen shut, and no matter how hard you try, you can't force it open. Where is everyone? Tears begin to run down your face. You can't hide the pain anymore. Your breathing becomes shallow and strained, as you start to sob uncontrollably. You scream for someone, _anyone,_ to come and find you. ... *But nobody came.*

This feels like Clover returning home after the genocide route, realizing that even though they had achieved their goal, that they had enacted JUSTICE for the fallen children... they weren't content. They never expected to come back home, and there was that part of them telling them that even though this would be considered justice by some, it wasn't right, in the slightest. Haunted especially by the Martlet melting and crying out for help, by both her and Ceroba telling them that they were wrong, by having to kill a fellow cowboy in Starlo, they make up their mind. They RESET.

I mean, there's also the option of Clover being mentally exhausted because of all the stuff they've been through (*cough* *cough* Flowey *cough* *cough*), and, because of that, they eventually stopped caring about what was right and wrong. They're still human, after all, so it's not like they're not susceptible to emotional stress. They've seen a lot, they've done a lot, and they were tired. They just wanted to be free.

@@saper-qm3hd Building on all of that, maybe they wanted justice for themselves? Flowey was constantly screwing with time and pulling them back to the start against their will. All that time, fixing other people’s problems but never being granted peace. Sooner or later, Clover had to have snapped and defaulted to their original plan of slaughtering the underground. Both to get justice for the other humans, and to deliver judgment upon Flowey and everyone around them to punish them for not helping in the constant loops.

If you think about it that way, Vengeance Route Clover can be viewed under an entirely new light, which turns them from a self-righteous killer with a twisted sense of justice into a hero that lived long enough to become a villain. Sounds kind of stupid, but considering all the resets, that's basically what happened.

The wind felt so nice in your hair. *You pass by all your neighbors and old friends, a few of them smiled and waved, some of them watered the flowers or played with the dog in their yard, paying no mind to you. *You noticed one of them winced, while a few others entirely avoided eye contact. *You pass by some of the kids you knew from school as they rode on their bikes, they slightly sped up their pace as they passed, murmuring about something. *You wonder if they're surprised to see you again, after all.. You don't know how much time has passed with all the saving and reloading you did. *It couldn't have been more than a few weeks. *Skipping down the curb, you finally spot your house, quickly picking up the pace as your heart pounded out of your chest, but.. I’m sure your family misses you” Toriel says gently patting the small child’s head, Frisk nodded and lead the parade of monsters to their home. It had a sign on the outside “For sale? Sans what do they mean by that? It’s the human’s home is it not?” Papyrus asks looking down at his older but shorter brother. Frisk stared at the sign then back at the monsters they befriended on their way back to the surface through the mountain. Quickly the human rushes into their friends’ arms, hugging onto them all tightly. Toriel and Asgore looked at the small child that had looked so much like the human they adopted once now clinging to them again, the cycle was going to repeat. Frisk had new family and new friends. They are the monster ambassador, friend and family of the underground.

I don't know, the idea of Frisk refusing to live with Toriel because no matter what-the rustic cramped hut they grow up in all their life is still their home is quite fascinating to me. Like, yeah. Toriel has better bed, has cleaner room and Frisk got to went home to the smell of freshly baked pie everyday, can take a bath by themselve and have many books to read. Can know how it feels to have a parent. But Frisk also likes the old chair in the corner, also like listening to radio (their only form of entertainment) sitting in that same chair while the evening wind gust through the window. Frisk still likes working part-time and doing whatever job they can get so that they have their own money (beside to fill up their daily boredom), Frisk still likes drawing and then hanging it on the wall. Even though the leaking rain water tend to soak the paper. It's not perfect. But it is what they grow up in. It is something _familiar_ to them. And it's okay, it's not the greatest condition Frisk know, and they also know the others are worried because of that, but it's still _familiar_ to them. And it takes time to let that go. Eventually Frisk may want to move out from that home, eventually Frisk may accept Toriel's offer to live with her. But until then, Frisk have time. And that's all that matter. This idea play with the prospect of comfort zone, of letting things go. Often time I see people only highlight the bad side, and while it does make sense-people often forget how there's still some good memory mixed within it. Sure it's not perfect, but that's all you ever know. Human hate change, that's the needle bursting their comfort zone, their bubble of familiarity.

I had always felt bad for Frisk's parent(s). They're just a kid so they're probably worried sick that they've gone missing after going to the mountain. I've personally never believed in the theory that Frisk's parents suck or that they're an orphan, so that's always bugged me about the story and how no one never mentions their parents.

I always liked the fan theory that Undertale is a kind of meta-game within Deltarune made by Asriel as a way to work through his childhood issues. Kris, adopted from a strange, distant place, is divided into two people, Chara the misbehaving, vindictive problem child and Frisk the sweet, inquisitive caring child. Both Asriel and Kris were hit hard by their parents’ divorce, Asgore being a mostly caring, loving father who nevertheless has a temper that got in the way of his work as a policeman (along with heavily implied closeted/repressed attraction to Rudy perhaps adding to his stress), and Toriel being equally caring but overbearing and overprotective of her children. Maybe Asriel himself, as he got older, said or did things to Kris that ultimately caused a lot of hurt, or gave Kris ideas that weren’t healthy. Asriel basically made Undertale as a way of telling Kris, “look, I’m going away to college, I can’t be there as the absolute God of Hyperdeath anymore. We can’t play like we used to as kids, and I protect you. But also don’t think that you have to be this violent, angry person towards the people in town, or that you have to shut yourself out of everyone’s lives. Be kind and try to understand where people are coming from, and know that the person you think I am (Flowey) isn’t the person you should see in me. The way to break the barrier, break the cycle of hurt and anger, is to forgive the people who hurt you.”

I see everyone in the comments is talking about the idea of Frisk returning to what used to be their original home on the surface and finding it deserted. It may be sad, disturbing, but I believe the truth is something far worse. Take a closer look at some of the things you hear in the genocide route: "My brother really wants to meet a human, so you should keep pretending to be one." "Human - No, whatever _you_ are - I will strike you down." "What kind of monster are you? Sorry, I cannot tell." These quotes all come from monsters, monsters who specifically consider humans their enemy. They aren't saying that you are no longer human because you're evil, they are saying that Frisk, the person standing right in front of them, is *literally* not a human. Even Asgore, who has no idea what they've done, thinks they're a monster, just like himself. But they aren't. And we have clues for that too. Undyne and Flowey both use the line "Humans, monsters, EVERYONE" referring to the idea that humans and monsters aren't the only two races in this world, which Deltarune confirms outright. Deltarune also shows us exactly what happens when the Anomaly bonds with a real human: They retain their own will and resist it. Frisk never does - Because Frisk doesn't *have* their own will, or their own mind. They don't have, and never had a home. They never had parents. They never had a past outside the underground or a reason for coming there. They aren't even a person. They are something totally different to Kris and Chara: A mindless, empty vessel that exists for the sole purpose of being the vehicle through which the Anomaly interacts with the world.

Oh Jesus. This looks like Grandma's house. Like, the resemblance is disturbing. It's missing curtains on the left, and a shelf under the window, but the wood on the floor and wall is identical. The chair and desk, the clutter. I think there were two windows? This was the back room. If you turned around, there was a hall to the left to a bathroom and a few rooms with nothing but clutter. You know i kinda get the vibe that this would happen after a pacifist where frisk choses to not stay with Toriel and goes home, but when they reach home no one is there, no one is anywhere, the clock never moves everything is frozen. Then they realize they're just as stuck as everyone else in the loop of resets and this plays as they realize They're no god. No higher being. Just a kid stuck in a loop until the player either forgets them entirety trapping them in a frozen wasteland of what once home until they go mad or until the loop happens once more and they fall down again. Chara by seeing that their family moved on (even if the incident still echoes through the underground) and not being able to talk, and the player by realising how much time has passed since 2015. Y'know, a kind of ''nostalgic existential crisis'' type of vibe, if that makes sense

I work for sales. I went to my old town for work where I lived in two houses. We were paying them off long ago and both times the people we were paying from just gave it to someone else and barely gave us time to move out. I went back after about 11 year for my job and told the people of both house that it was once mine and they were lovely places. Neither seemed to care and kinda just were like ok. It hurt being on the porch of the 2 houses I used to live and being unable to go to my room or get a small view of what’s new.

From the start of the Undertale scene, We can see that a child was tripping down to the hole (Not sure it's Frisk or other children, but at least one of them does) However, Asriel did mention that Chara goes to the Mt.Ebott for no good reason.

This is what situation this song makes me think of: Yesterday, while I was sick at home, my school got shot down my a group of people, probably a gang or something, I've never been sure. They killed all my friends and acquaintances, my mother, and my two younger brothers, so most of my immediate family. All I had left was my dad, but not even that lasted. The very next day, today, my house burned down with him inside it while I was on a particularly long walk. I'm not strong enough to dig through the rubble, every phone I could find is broken, and the nearest person is miles away. So now, I'm just sitting on a piece of my, no, our house and reflecting on what I've lost. All the memories. The fact that things will never return to normal. My family. Everything I had. It might be gone, but I'll always remember it.
