for all we know, that's frisk regaining control over their own body, not chara taking over it. in fact, there's literally no evidence that it's chara, so idk where you got that it's 'canonical' from??

@comicallylargerodent Let me lay out the evidence. The attack is one of only two in the game to be scripted to deal damage entirely consistent of the number 9. In the 9th anniversary newsletter, 9 is confirmed to be Chara's favorite number. The attack is _also_ scripted to use the slash attack animation regardless of Frisk's current weapon. This alone disqualifies Frisk from being the culprit. Additionally, the slash attack animation is also used by the Worn Dagger and Real Knife, both of which being weapons directly associated with Chara. (The slash animation is even used for when Chara attacks the player/universe in the no mercy ending) Also, the player cannot be responsible for the second attack either, since they only have to press a button for the first attack. Basically all evidence points to it being Chara, not Frisk or the player.

They only get upset with you if you betray them (either by trying to recreate the world or refusing to help them erase it), or you do no mercy a second time, in which they're more confused about why you'd do the exact same thing twice rather than "disgusted" like you say. In the entire normal first-time no mercy ending (up until you refuse to erase, if you do so), Chara has nothing but praise for the player. Calling the player their partner, and proudly proclaiming that "together, *we* eradicated the enemy (monsterkind) and became strong." Remember, Chara is basically a second Flowey. They also lack a soul, and therefore the ability to feel empathy or positive emotion. The Chara we see at the end of no mercy is about as much of "Chara" as Flowey is Asriel. If not less so.
