Not that the original was revolutionary for the final fight, but I remember struggling to line up the beam and the nemesis. Not to mention all his different transformations in the original were so interesting and really tickled my imagination. Whereas the remake doesn’t quite feel as unique. Out of all the ways RE3make hurt me, them turning Nemesis into a complete joke that no one takes seriously and you only have one real encounter with was easily the worst blow. I remember thinking, "Wait, that was it?" when he transformed so shortly after leaving the first and only exploration area knowing he would not be transforming back.
@danielgeronimo5538 Жыл бұрын
@@Impalingthorn I remember when going through RE3 original I was so nervous in making a choice because each one has severe consequences on your playthrough. You either deal with Nemy now, or you're gonna have a bad time later on with him on your tail, it was simple but, very critical to the survival horror mindset. And should you make a good choice and lived with it, you are rewarded for it. That was gone in the remake, alongside the interesting level design and boss battles.
@RafaelRoberto Жыл бұрын
One thing that really pissed me off at the time RE3R was that on 2R they did an amazing job with Mr. X stalking you around the RPD, it was scary, it kept on edge and moving and it was a perfect system to be implemented on Nemesis. Fuck, it would be even scarier, a monster bigger, carrying a rocket launcher and RUNNING at you faster than you could scape. And for some reason they just threw it all away, scripted the whole thing and make him so weak that it dies with a single grenade blast...
@the-chicken-mafia Жыл бұрын
Also, Mr X can instakill you -in BOTH FORMS- while Nemesis can't. Ever. (While he CAN stunlock you to death in his 3rd and 4th boss battles, that doesn't count and also makes me lose respect fur him) Additionally, Mr. X takes numerous bullets to the face/grenades (not counting flashbangs) to incapacitate. It's basically a last resort, especially on Hardcore. It's simply not worth the resources. Nemesis on the other hand goes down like a bitch. Side note: anyone else think the game gives you too many grenade rounds? No matter the difficulty, I could always cram my inventory full of them fir the 3rd boss and struggle to have room for other ammo and health. I was about to say 'remake nemesis has a lower body count than OG cause he didn't kill Brad' (or shoot down a helicopter) but then I remembered the train carriage full of civilians. And ok, that's pretty cool, and does a decent job at showing his threat level. But it doesn't hit the same as seeing OG kill Brad in front of you, or watching Mr. X's arm burst through a concrete wall to crush a guy's skull with a single hand.
@black-redpill3 Жыл бұрын
That being scrapped makes sense when you remember you can't see Nemesis coming more often than not without reviving the tank control system with fixed camera angles. Over the shoulder fixed camera means you can never see the stalker enemy behind you, and its why it was effective with a much weaker version of Nemesis in Revelations. Corridors make it ironically more manageable than a wide sprawling map space does for the over the shoulder system. They chose the shoulder over trying to improve on arguably the best horror stalker AI enemy to date for the genre, and as a result the entire game suffers for it.

@@the-chicken-mafia Difference is Nemy can Run unlike Mt. X. It's not scary, it's outright annoying if you don't know the optimal route, once you do the guy basically doesnt exist. Nemesis did shoot down the helicopter, right in the beginning before you floor the car into him. He destroys the train and kills all the civilians, impales nikolai, kills tyrell. Let's not take away how insane the beginning of RE3 was. Nemesis bursts through jills wall, kicks her into the wall, almost bashes her skull open. Stomps through the floor to the floor underneath, Bursts through another wall and tosses you into the hallway. Rips off a piece of foundation slab to kill you with. The strength of this creature was shown perfectly and had me hooked. Takes the hit from the car, falls from the top of the parking garage with the car landign on him, only to just get up like nothing happened. In game he stun locks you from hardcore and up and it's basically death at that point. Creates parasite zombies. Charges at you. Fucking LEAPS infront of you. I think Code Veronica needs a remake more simply because, alongside being much older and outdated in almost every aspect, it would give Chris and Wesker a "remake identity" before potentially going for RE5. As far as the remakes go, Chris has 0 screen time and Wesker has _maybe_ 30 seconds and a Mercenaries appearance (not yet available but coming soon since dataminers found the character like 90% complete).

@@NeroLordofChaos Doing so would have hurt the theme that RE2 and RE4 cut content was ok, only RE3 was unacceptable. Sorry, I'm about to rant. TL;DR RE3 is hardly the isolated problem. What is even the goal of these remakes? In my opinion, RE2 cuts absolutely were not ok. RE3 NEMESIS is lucky to even be called RE3, the real RE3 is Code Veronica (they were originally releasing CV as RE3), so I didn't care as much since RE3 was always essentially a side story of Jill escaping a Tyrant, and none of the new characters matter to the franchise. It's like RE0 without having Umbrella or leading up to the Mansion. Billy isn't someone we ever see again, and the events are sort of glossed over in Umbrella Chronicles but that game interestingly had stuff like the Snake boss fight which shows how Richard was attacked. The overarcing theme in mainline games is trying to reveal and defeat the company while surviving usually with 2 or more characters in their unique campaigns (RE4 also had Assignment: Ada and RE5 had the Josh and Jill story). The closest Jill comes to doing anything that upset Umbrella was get Nikolai killed, but who? Nikolai? And you play as Carlos as much as Sherry/Ada in RE2 or Ashley in RE4, who are just temps because the main character is not accessable, etc. I'm upset because they just skipped Code Veronica like it wasn't important. Yeah, maybe if you never met Chris and Wesker in RE1, which of course they skipped the RE1 Remake because it had Wesker. It felt like they were avoiding Wesker this whole time, hence why they discontinued the Revelations games, which probably would have revived Wesker. Finally we got Wesker in RE4 remake, surprisingly. No mercenaries mode though. Also, by cutting B scenario in RE2 Remake, it was like they cut both stories to shreds. Having Mr X survive in Leon's campaign and die in Claire's makes no sense unless there were 2 of them. Neither story feels true to the timeline, and they feel a lot like RE1 strange story-telling where you choose between having only Chris, Rebecca and Jill, or Jill, Barry and Chris survive, but in the canon story, all 4 survive (or are the games with Barry suddenly non-canon? Barry wasn't in RE3 ending!), so this could be something the Remake can actually address instead of cut corners. It is a lot like how Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside Chronicles essentially tried connecting the entire franchise leading up to RE4 and RE5, get to experience the complete adventures of STARS members Chris and Jill from RE1, and original Raccoon Survivors Leon and Claire from RE2, and the build-up of Wesker's plot in RE5. I just don't understand the purpose of these remakes as a whole. Are they trying to revitalize the story to make it fresh for a modern audience? No, because they'd need most games like RE1, CV, RE5+6, etc and they would probably add stuff like "How did Ada escape Raccoon City?" Are they targeting games that need to be remade? RE2 and RE3 were originally the only PS1 quality mainline games that essentially needed a remake, and ever since RE1 Remake, the graphics have looked "realistic", which would only leave a few more games like CV to be necessary, but they would have made it match up with RE1 Remake style gameplay, character, creatures, and story unless they intended to remake everything from RE1 again and RE5+6. Where were the Crimson Heads? They literally are premutated Lickers. No spiders, crows, evolved Lickers or Beta Hunters, or non-Nemesis bosses like Gravedigger. Is it a cash grab? Yes, RE2 and RE4 are generally considered the best rated in the franchise, and RE3 had become a cult classic amongst fans for reasons, while RE5 despite being the best selling and important to the plot, was criticized. I imagine they won't remake RE5 because it has more risk of not making enough money for the original's scrutiny despite selling the most, in fact I bet they only remade RE3 because it would have been awkward to just remake RE2 and RE4 (like they were also hyping up RE4 VR) They certainly didn't act like they wanted to remake 3 and treated it like an afterthought, but RE2 is a lot like Star Wars: Force Awakens. It gets a lot of forgivenss for graphics or superficial nostalgia, but set into motion of cutting content, like TFA didn't explain how the galaxy was in turmoil after RotJ, but is RE3 Remake equal to the Last Jedi, or is there more planned? What exactly is going to happen in RE9? Is Resident Evil going to officially die or get limited to lackluster TV shows?

You meet Carlos and have an encounter with Nemesis in a restaurant where you're given a choice to either flee or fight Nemesis. 5. You end up nearly getting Blown to bits when a gas station explodes 6. You wind up entering the front gates to the RPD where you witness Brad get obliterated by Nemesis 7. You eventually meet up with Carlos and you both have to jump out of an Office Buildings upper floor to escape Nemesis 8. Near the beginning of the game you Discover an Officer who has blown his brains out in a basement with the Shotgun you end up taking for your own survival. There are just so many key moments big and small that happen in the city streets that the Third Party dev team purposfully cut out, regardless if it was for a lack of budget or whatever, they should have never agreed to take on such a massive task as to work on a Remake of a cult classic title such as RE3: Nemesis

This hits the nail right on the head. So much of Resident Evil 3 is about Raccoon City. One of my favorite sequences in any game is the bit after you have your conversation with Dario, where you first gain the ability to free roam the city. You encounter numerous other survivors...and you will be able to save *none* of them. That opening, crushing failure drives home what Re3's central theme is: because the Raccoon City Outbreak has occurred, our heroes from the original game have already lost. They failed, they weren't able to protect the city, and now basically everyone inside is going to die. It isn't about stopping Umbrella anymore, it's just about survival. I really like the end credits theme for the REmake, "Sadness and Regret," but they try to invoke a sense of gravitas the game just doesn't earn. We never saw Raccoon City alive, we never really had a reason to care about the people in it, hell, we never directly interacted with the survivors Mikhail was trying to evacuate, so Raccoon City's destruction doesn't have much weight to it. If ever there was a case for a game deserving to be expanded, it'd be Resident Evil 3. They could've done so much, incorporating locations from Outbreak and Re2R, and instead we got a game that's almost entirely recycled from Re2R. While it's not my absolute least favorite Resident Evil, it's at the very bottom of the pile.

2:55 NO, Claire and Leon have almost Identical scenarios in the RE2 remake. The only real difference being the Sherry/Ada parts, a couple cut-scenes play out slightly different, and a couple different MR. X appearances. With very few differences, all items, key items, and weapons are exactly the same, in the exact same spot, and all puzzle solutions are exactly the same. That is what pissed me off about it. It went from 4 unique scenarios in the original, to one single scenario with very minor differences between the characters in the remake.

Really good explanation. Between the Chris/Jill campaigns in RE1 (where I didn't know I left poor Rebecca behind when the mansion blew up), The A/B Scenarios in RE2, (which have completely unique was Ada dies), and the branching choices of RE3, Resident Evil built a tradition on multiple playthroughs. Re2 missed half its content when you pair both the missing content of the B scenario for both characters, but also the missing content story wise in the A scenarios for both characters as well. Re3 on the other hand was missing 3/4ths of its content, because not only is half the game missing without the clock tower segment, but due to no choice system being present you are quite literally only getting half of the remaining game left, since those choices are left to a default script. But that trick only becomes available if the player lets the fight go on for a set period of time, and many players do not even know that the trick exists. I had RE4R preordered and had the RE Collection purchased for cheap a while ago so I decided to play through RE4 OG again in preparation for the Remake. Honestly, having played these games back to back and being able to compare them directly, the Remake adds way more than it takes away and it's the overall better game. But it doesn't replace the OG like REmake did with the original RE, if that makes sense. It's a mechanically more fun game with lots more to do and explore but there's certain things the OG has that makes it irreplaceable. Both are A+ games. I personally prefer the Remake. I never played the original RE3 but I just knew something was off about the game before I saw anyone complain about cut content. The city areas were nothing. I'm a big fan of the RE Outbreak games on the PS2 and those did Raccoon City more justice than RE3R.

While RE3R was true heartache, the loss of RE2R's B scenario still hurt a lot. Like you said, it's important to know what the original experience actually was like, and the B Scenario was absolutely a key component for me. Or, rather, the attention to the scenario overall was key. The characters, the setting, the feeling that some page was turning in the story. The RE2 Remake not only fumbled the second scenario, it also fumbled a lot of these other elements for me. Marvin was A+ absolutely, but then we meet and immediately say goodbye to Ben. Chief Irons goes from 0 to 100 the very first time we meet him, and we know exactly where he goes a few minutes later. The notes and background search text are gone without a lot of environmental storytelling to add. We move between ares of the game without feeling like there's been a change in the situation besides respawned enemies.
@underthemayo Жыл бұрын
I really like the change to the ben meeting. I'll take the new incredible introduction to Mr x over the old ben encounters. But yeah chief irons is not a great change. You should check out my official video on RE2 if you haven't. It covers the B scenario a lot.
@MehrabRahman Жыл бұрын
@@underthemayo Thanks, I will! And don't get me wrong, I do like the actual scene with how it sets up the tyrant. I also like the new chief's acting and performance. My issue is that while the original Ben could also be boiled down to "sketch reporter killed before he could give Leon info" he at least got some time between his introduction and his death to add some direction and atmosphere to the building before doing so for Mr. X. It was like the opposite of what they did for Marvin, a two scene character in the original that gets a few more in the remake to space out his intro and his turn. But the change with Irons is even worse. The original made it feel like the disaster at the RPD was just as much a result of him as it was the zombies, and his vanishing act made it feel like he could pop up anywhere. Making him a mini pursuer boss for Sherry was a good move, but moving it outside of the RPD wasn't as much. Beyond the gameplay and scenario though, I always felt like the original games intended on writing about Umbrella and its BOWs as less the antagonists and more a corrupting influence on the real villains. Wesker sold out his unit for profit, Irons was desperately clawing for control of a town he no longer felt in control of, Birkin went to extreme lengths to keep his work for himself, and Nikolai tried to monopolize his value as a potential sole witness to the only large scale combat trial for Umbrella's virus. After RE4 though the main theme of each villain seems to be global domination of some sort, and the new Remakes don't do much to expand or improve on the old pattern. Like, they could have had Ben direct Leon a bit for evidence to establish Irons and Birkin a little, or expanded Birkin's drive to hunt Sherry as more than simple instinct and instead a corruption of his need to keep what's his from others, or have Irons play the part of a proto-Salazar sabotaging the RPD in real time to kill the new intruders sniffing around his business.

If Capcom want to appease the fans, they should be adding a 'classic mode' where they preserve the fixed cameras and allow players to experience the game in its original form. We get that fixed cameras were implemented back in the 90s due to hardware constraints, but that doesn't mean they should be made obsolete. 2d side scrolling platformers and metroidvania games are still produced today because it's a game style that doesn't work for actual 3d platformers.

There are two major changes/omissions in REmake. 1. REmake is way more linear at the beginning, only letting your progress in a more strict, predetermined way. OG RE1 is way more open with multiple routes available from the get go. 2. No dynamic storyline mechanic. In OG RE1, depending on which rooms you visit and in which order, you would get different versions of different scenes, or new scenes altogether. The most obvious example of this is the first zombie encounter. Depending on how you move about, you could kill the zombie, escape to the dining room and have Barry shoot the zombie, or, if you mess around in the dining hall and go back to the main hall before investigating the next room, the zombie will just appear on its own (and Barry shoots it). This can still happen in the remake, but only that one. There are way more such examples in the original.

Lets just pretend that RE3R never happened. 🙄 I did enjoy RE2R and RE4R - though I certainly wouldn't call them "definite editions" - precisely due to cut content. RE1R really doesn't need another Remake. It aged remarkably well due to tank controls and prerendered backgrounds. It's still gorgeous.

I really hope that the cut content from re4 (such as u3, ski lift part) is put in the separate ways dlc
@ashlynnshoolroy28 Жыл бұрын
I would love that. Strangely, with my experience playing the re4 remake, I noticed the redesigns of castle rooms and only noticed a couple locations cut (which is still weird given I played the original and would have known). But the cut content became more noticeable on the island where I realized there wasn't going to be a U3 boss fight when I was already at Mike's section. It actually created a small void in my experience when I thought there needed to be something more on the island like the U3 boss fight when there wasn't. Re4 though added a few new locations and experiences in the process and expanding more on puzzle solving in areas which I loved and adding merchant side quests. It added the cave in the village and achieved perfect exploration with the lake and added to the ruins on the island. The castle felt more smooth because one of my annoyances with the original was that storywise I had to save Ashley several times although I thought the clocktower sequence could have been a little longer (which the they probably shortened because the castle has treasures and merchant side quests that make you backtrack a lot through areas and explore the sections you played in as Ashley). I may be the only one, but going into the OG Re4 knowing the story of Re2, I was extremely disappointed with Ada's and Leon's interactions with each other in the cut scenes. I thought the cut scenes in the Re4 remake made the story of the game fantastic. Overall, the experience was great, and I am still playing the remake because of the gameplay achievements, and finding more secrets.

Several factors are pointing towards Separate Ways being much bigger than the original Separate Ways. The 2nd Verdugo just vanishes at _some_ point and is never seen again in the remake. In the original the 2nd Verdugo was merged with Salazar for his boss battle but in the remake Salazar is a standalone monster and yet the 2nd Verdugo is nowhere to be found, implying that it might have fought and died to Ada at some point. A few voice files found by dataminers also suggests that Ada will fight alongside Luis during Separate Ways, something that never happened in the og. I'm not sure about the U-3 since even in the original this creature showed up almost completely out of left field with only a few sentences and a short note to announce it's existence, even the location in which you fought it was strange and out of place (still remember the most random hook in the history of hooks at the end for Leon to grab XD). If they _do_ bring back the U-3 fight somehow (or something equivalent to it since in the remake there is no mention _anywhere_ that this creature exists) then it will likely be much different than in the og. I don't know what is so special about the ski lift that people are so upset that it's gone. It was an unmemorable segment that lasted basically 60 seconds and only required a handful of Punisher or Rifle ammo to go through with 0 effort. The only reason people remember it so much is because it was a _very_ slow moment after 2 action-filled sections (the cabin holdout and then the Gigante and/or Chainsaw sisters fort).
@ashlynnshoolroy28 Жыл бұрын
@@Skillfulstone Yes I did notice the lift moment was gone, but for some reason like the other stuff, I didn't notice probably because like you described, it didn't seem as impactful to the gameplay. The cave expansion at the lake though was fun. That section to me probably was the funnest part of the game

@@KingExplorer107 Wasn't "U-3" used as the code name for the Verdugos in the remake? The notes of the (former) servant who became a Verdugo (Isidro Uriarte Talavera, that's some name XD) seems to imply that Novistadors were "U-2" and Verdugo was "U-3" since the servant who became Verdugo was the same man who created Novistadors and "named" them U-2 before his "hound", and later himself, underwent the insect-human hybrid transformation to become the executioners (the literal translation for "Verdugo") of Salazar. It would make sense since the Verdugos indeed have insect-like characteristics and Novistadors, the "U-2" were the previous inferior version of the new species. The note where this is said I think is named "Chronicles of Pursuit 2"; "October, eight years since my awakening- At last, my noble pursuit progresses to its final stage: the fusion of human and insect. The housekeeper has graciously volunteered herself for the experiment. I shall pour my whole heart into this endeavor in order to transcend humanity and make Master Ramón proud, March, nine years since my awakening- A glorious union has been made! The housekeeper has endured much suffering, but not for naught! Behold, the fruits of our labor in all its beauty! I shall consecrate this perfect lifeform with the name “U-III,” for III is the most beautiful and complete number. April, nine years since my awakening - U-III, my dear hound “Pesanta,” has been chosen to serve as the right hand of Master Ramón. But is two not better than one? Now, it is my turn to demonstrate my loyalty. His humble servant, Isidro Uriarte Talavera" If a creature similar to the og RE4 U-3 does make an appearance, it will likely be in Separate Ways alongside the 2nd Verdugo who just vanishes from the game at some point despite not being used in Salazar's transformation like in the og, which makes me think Ada kills it at some point.

RE2R had A LOT of cuts! The A and B Scenarios was a BIG part of RE2. They cut ALL of the dialog between Leon and Claire throughout the gameplay. Even Leon and Sherry interactions. The Zapping system too. Plus Mr. X is supposed to ONLY chase B scenario (AKA Leon Story).
@underthemayo4 ай бұрын
Yeah there were some painful cuts in RE2. I'm not defending them. But they're just not comparable to RE3. Also, saying "Mr X is SUPPOSED to only come in the B Scenario" I don't think is a valid criticism. Like, who cares? Isn't it better for him to be a core part of the experience? I think it is.
@LightYagami-rz6su3 ай бұрын
@underthemayo the Mr X in only B side makes the second run more memorable and make it a true second run. Just like how it was in the original. I think RE2R cuts are just as bad as RE3R. In my personal opinion. Replaying the original and playing the remake showed me how much they ruined this "remake".
@SackoYT Жыл бұрын
Cutting the no thanks bro line, and the phone calls between Leon and Salazar or Saddler cut me. Sometimes cutting/changing for the sake of the games tone or direction does makes sense, i.e. RE4R. Doesn't mean I like it though. RE3R is like expecting the same meal you've always enjoyed, but two thirds of it are missing and you're still hungry. I agree with the consensus that RE1 remake is still the best remake, and it aligns with my beliefs about what a remake should be, which is to keep everything intact and just refine the same gameplay and overhaul the graphics. As for RE2R, I feel that Leon and Claire needed more scenes together, like in the original RE2.
@suokkis Жыл бұрын
I think that remakes should add to the original, not cut content. RE2 remake for one cut the spiders, RE1 Remake cut one room but added so many other things, harder puzzles, crimson heads, the forest cabin and Lisa Trevor etc.... RE3 remake.... not worth even talking about it. RE1 Remake should be the standard for any remake following. Imagine if it could have been botched like the RE3 remake, and they removed the entire Guard House and parts of the mansion completely.

The real problem is the change in the core philosophy of game design. The originals were designed to make you feel lost and not exactly sure what you have to do to progress. Essentially it was giant escape room experience. Now game developers never ever want a player to feel like he's not supposed to know where to go or what to do next so the maps are completely streamlined and the puzzles basically have giant blinking neon signs on them so you know what to do. It completely negates that lost helpless feeling that the originals encapsulated so well. Which is the exact way a survival horror game is supposed to make you feel you are not supposed to feel so powerful and in control.
@Laocoon283 Жыл бұрын
@neckneck ok lol I never mentioned anything about time. The originals were very short games. If your so busy that you don't have a couple hours of recreational time a week then you you probably shouldn't be playing video games to begin with. Also not every game has to be equally accessible to the everyone. Just play a different game if its too hard for you.

You're really overstating at least RE2 and it's remake Original 2 in the A scenario was exceptionally streamlined and only opened up your options in the B scenario. @neckneck Yea well that always happens with media. You end up watering down the product to make it appeal to the most people possible. Music, literature, movies etc etc. Why make an absolutely stellar product that only appeals to a niche group when you can make a sub par product that is more accessible to everyone. Make alot more money the latter way.

It's incredible how badly they dropped the ball with RE3R. I remember playing RE2R with Mr.X dynamically searching for you in the RPD and imagining how amazing Nemesis could be if he had a similar AI system, but operating throughout most of the game. Instead what we got was a few scripted sequences sprinkled through a game missing half its content. Biggest crime was this was probably their own chance to do right by the game and they phoned it in and completely blew it. I don't care if it was the B team working on RE3R; the end result is the game's a pale shadow of what it could have been and Capcom had so little pride in their work or reverence for the original that they thought what we got was good enough to release. Such a shame, Nemesis should have Mr.X on steroids, stalking and surprising you dynamically and constantly throughout the game, RE2R already had a basic framework to do it in place.

RE4 OG feels big even though maps are smaller butin RE4REimagine the maps are big but it plays very compact you roughly get through the areas pretty quick, even with the added content. It feels smaller despite looking at how beautiful it looks. Content should never be cut because I am of the belief you can tweak the areas that felt weak and make it better.

I wish we had gotten Assigment Ada as a "taste" of Ada Wong's gameplay, alongside her commando suit. I wish we had a menu that allowed us to rewatch cutscenes like the original. And missed on a lot of costumes; Pop Star Ashley, RPD Leon, Shirtless Krauser, Black Suit Wesker, Classic Luis and Classic Ada (because the new dress is black and doesn't show her legs) and hell, if I was Capcom I would've made playable Saddler and Playable Merchant.
