I started the college conversation with my daughter at age 9. As a single parent, I couldn’t afford to pay her tuition so she planned accordingly. You’re correct-community service is key, as well as participation in a team sport and music (ie band). She got a full ride to a State school, obtained employment from her internship, and that job paid for her masters degree.

You can rent books from college bookstores. You can also buy digital versions cheap from the bookstores too. Keep the receipts so you can return them. Keep them in good shape too. They can mail them to you if you want to order them before classes start. Sometimes professors say wait until the first class before purchasing.

I overheard a conversation at the dealership last Saturday while I was having my car serviced and a friend who just bought a car told me the same thing. With the availability to research fair market value on vehicles - the dealerships don't really discuss price and make deals anymore. But, your absolutely right about all the little things that can be added.

Great tips! We also bought a home in need of repairs and built a deck on the back. About a year later we got a tax assessment for home improvement. Upon inquiring we were told the deck was spotted from an aerial shot; not only did it raise our property taxes but we had to pay a fine for not obtaining a permit ($50).

@@readyornot316 Wow, that's good to know! There is a deck on the front of the house which fell off. I think it looks bad so hubby was going to put it on the back. Thanks, maybe we'll wait a while to do that. Aerial would be very easy to do with this house. Again, thank you for letting me know.

Rules differ from place to place, so it pays to check in your own municipality. Where I live, I went to get a permit for my new deck, but found out that because it was less than 12 inches off the ground, it was considered landscaping and required no permit.
@gmh56
@gmh56 Ай бұрын
@@cathyphillips679 In our area, the height of deck determines if a permit is needed, as well. Also, if the deck isn't attached to the house or garage no permit is needed. The big problem with doing work without a required permit is if you want to sell your house there will be issues when an inspection shows no permits were pulled. $$$$

The state of Massachusetts doesn’t allow coupon use on prescriptions. Many years ago I sent my husband to pick up a prescription for me, when he got home I asked what the price was, nearly had a heart attack when he told me $250.00 for a thirty day supply. I took the receipt from him as well as the bag (stapled closed) and took it back to the pharmacy. Because the bag had never been opened they gave me my money back. I then went to the neighboring store and purchased two one dollar scratch tickets. Got home scratched the tickets and had won $300.00. Called the doctor and asked for a less expensive prescription, which I got for under $10.00.

Although its £9.90 per item, there are exceptions and you can get a prepaid prescription if you know you're going to be on the medication for more than 3 months. For children and over 60s and if you have certain conditions or on benefits, its free in England.

Noise from loud mowers are what we deal with constantly. Turn on fans, keep windows closed, and blackout curtains help. Write your state legislators about regulating the noise levels permitted in the city or putting restrictions on them. They are entirely too loud for use in a city. The same people who run them can't carry on a conversation due to how deaf it makes them. City officials won't do a thing with or without ordinances. Ordinances usually aren't enforced.
