Towards the end of the natives residing there they had started trading for lead and copper and cutting snips. The natives were making copper bird points and other tools so to see the cut pieces within native flakes isn't as strange as it might seem. They also valued lead because they would carve lead into effigy pieces when they had to hury someone a2ay from their inland settlements. The natives only camped the summer on the bays and brackish rivers to harvest the shellfish. They smoked it all summer, dried it in salt from evaporated salt water then brought it back to their permanent villages where they lived throught the winter. Oyster mounds were usually near by but a lot of the high banks eroded down into the water. The rivers edge today isnt where it was in the 17th and 18th century. A lot of the rivers edge then is more towards the middle of the river if not buried from the opposite side. Those waterway werent as wide and a lot deeper and erosion washed the banks in and created these shallow waterways. Thats why theres such big sharks teeth in waist high creeks. Some stuff gets buried very deep then storms can move the water so quick it can churn it back up. Every spring is like a roll of the dice winter either buried something good or expose something new. Its usually a little of both. In hunted out sites you always usually win on that roll of the dice because something usually moves in or gets eroded down from the banks. Creek hunting is the best and you guys are in a very early historical area older then what we think of America having European settlements starting. One question? Why not use hip waders or wear a thin wet suit? Your not quite as flexibe but you still move better where you're not cold as all h*ll shivering.

Appreciate the info! I should have a wet suit, but don't

I love it all but anything last touched by a Native American is just incredible!
@jeanponce2017 Жыл бұрын
Yep that was what I was thinking. There's more metal points out there than people originally knew about. Colonial settlers saw how much the natives treasured metal objects and they could literally get boat loads of oysters, clams and fish (baskets included) with other weaved ware for pennies. One copper could be cut and polished into several razor sharp bird points or "kettle points" It was the very early start of their trading with the natives. Unfortunately the colonists took so much advantage of the natives that a colonist could turn a copper half cent into more product then what the colonists could buy with a silver or gold coin from other settlers. Around me we can find early forged hooks, crude lead casted fishnet weights, lead grave markers and tools like hide scrapers. After time the natives wised up and started trading for scraps of lead and sheet metal like copper and a pair of cutting shears but by that point the Europeans had already begun their long slow relocation plan where they promised the natives a plot of their own land and help with farming tools but the land was barron sand and pretty much useless for farming most traditional food crops. The state I live and detect in passed a law prohibiting the harvest of shellfish in the summer months in the mid 1,700's which basically cut off the natives from working the bays and waterways because they didn't have the boats needed to harvest through the cold months. The metal points that were a game changer for the natives didn't last long because they came near the beginning of their end. Those peaceful Europeans giving the natives these great deals are the ancestors of today's used cars dealers and last centuries snake oil sales men. The ones who were peaceful weren't the Europeans it was the natives who peacefully accepted their new neighbors to migrate here. And how does the old saying go? "Well Pocahontas there goes the neighborhood" SMH

Whoa! That’s amazing 😍Wait… Newbie here, so the answer to my question might be obvious to many, but how in the world did that Eagle A civil war button hold up so well under water?! I’ve seen you guys dig them out of the ground and they are often pretty corroded or patinated (patina’d ? Lol) And it seems that almost everything pulled out of the water on magnet fishing videos is so heavily corroded and gunked up, you can’t tell what it used to be… Regardless, very cool find 😄

Love the boys. I couldn’t wait for the water. It’s virgin grounds essentially- every time it floods. Another another Miravedis? Get outta here Kurt! I mean damn good find but my wheatie collection just keeps depreciating more and more dadgummit! Seriously- I’m holding you and Mr. Muckey Boots personally accountable for completely ruining the hobby for the rest of us. It used to be that Brad guy constantly destroying my hopes dreams and aspirations. I got him outta the picture and now this! Where’s Smiley and Billy? That 44 guy is missed for sure- every week Anybody want to buy a slightly used Deus2? Mines no longer needed!!! Stooopid Marivedis coin hoggin Hoover boys! I’m telling mom! I lived in Paducah, Ky in the early seventies. I lived on a little creek. I found so many arrowheads that I stopped picking them up. I swear I’m not exaggerating. I’m so disappointed that I stopped hunting then.
