1500+ FPS! Damn! I was never big on this cartridge because of it's typical sub 1,400 fps under loading, but this is sure enough hot and even hotter than .357 mag. This is worth looking into.

Underwood .357 Magnum 125 grain XTP Muzzle Velocity: 1700 fps Muzzle Energy: 802 ft/lbs This offering pushes nearly 1775 fps from my Ruger GP100 5" and 1825 fps from my Desert Eagle. Granted from a short barrel (3"), thing should even up. Love the .357 Sig though.
@billytube3257 жыл бұрын
TOBORE8THMAN did you actually test this, or was this just posted somewhere? When we chronoed the 125 underwood out of my buddies 4" gp100 we were barely scratching 1400fps.

As a matter of fact, I did: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYSmmJZ_jpKEo7M Shot 1 - 1809 fps - 908 ft/lbs Shot 2 - 1834 fps - 933 ft/lbs Shot 3 - 1809 fps - 908 ft/lbs Average velocity and muzzle energy - 1817 fps @ 916 ft/lbs

jordanaug81 i did trauma surgery in a city that the officers carried 357 sig I can tell you up close and personal it’s nasty!! They used Double tap bonded DT 125gr however there are rounds now from Underwood, Atomic and ICC also that have it cooking
@Mrgunsngear11 жыл бұрын
I do. I wouldn't mess with any springs but the recoil spring on any Glock (and only recoil springs on 357SIG and 10mm guns). That has to be a hell of a load coming out of the G33!
@Mrgunsngear12 жыл бұрын
Correct---standard length 31 barrel. I don't think they'd get 1400 out of the sub compact but there's only one way to find out! Yes, the FMJ round will penetrate auto sheet metal and glass without issue as will the bonded load tested here. Speer has lots of data on that on their website.

JHP is the way to go for defensive purposes. If you want increased barrier penetration just go with a bonded bullet. There is a plethora of data demonstrating the benefits of hollow points for defensive use over FMJs. That's just my 2 cents...

Thanks for sharing your time and fun at the range. That looks like a really devastating round. Great test. I love this caliber for more reasons than I can count. A Special Thanks to Underwood for getting the velocities to where they belong! Now all someone needs to do is test the Underwood Sierra .357 SIG Rounds. CURRENTLY IN STOCK OVER 100 BOXES!!! GET THEM WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!!! THEY COST AS MUCH AS TARGET AMMO IN THIS CALIBER IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT.
@Mrgunsngear12 жыл бұрын
I'd be wary of that buffer in your Glock; just watch for signs of slide damage from it. I've seen quite a few issues with them. For hot 357SIG loads I think a heavier recoil spring may be the way to go to slow the slide down; I was using a 20lb spring in this set up FWIW.
@Mrgunsngear11 жыл бұрын
Best--10mm. Likely to overpenetrate---totally depends on the individual load/bullet; less on the caliber.
@lukesrantings1211 жыл бұрын
Great video. Much better than my review of this ammo! I recently had some of this ammo render my G33 temporarily unusable, do to either an overload or an aversion to cold climate. The primer blew out of the case during a FTE. My extractor was blown back and the case had to be removed from the chamber with a tool. This was the only time I shot this ammo on a really cold day, so I don’t know if it was the weather or a bad load. I still think it is an awesome round.
@Mrgunsngear12 жыл бұрын
10m. Maybe this lot was slightly hotter or the heavier recoil spring was causing the faster velocity (that's my guess).

.40S&W rocks, nuff said!....The deal with Underwood hi-vel is that +P is only ideal for shorter barrels, lighter weight guns. Where guys don't want to always use cuz of increased recoil, effort, pain, misses, etc. I'm talking about pentr. parameters that are altered, as shown here.
@RumblestripDotNet12 жыл бұрын
I have only shot the FMJ's in the Underwood 357 Sig, but our of a Glock 32, there is a NOTICEABLE difference between it and the Speed Gold Dots that I carry. I'm guessing that the extra weight of the slide in the 22/31 makes that much of a difference. I did try out the Strike Industries Shock Buffer in it tonight and it did help some. Still 50 rounds is about my limit before it starts to really fatigue my hand.

Based on what I saw you got a velocity avg of about 1550 fps which is sick, but is it a standard 4.49'' barrel? If it is those rounds are smoking hot, and I have been buying Underwood ammo for a little over a year and I got me some of their new FMJ bonded loads rated at the same 1475fps. Do you think I can get a full 1400fps out of a subcompact given that you got way over that? Also, do you think their FMJ .357sig would be suitable for piercing automotive metal and glass well?

great video, poopoo on the 9mm, I do love the 357 sig load and hate the fact the market has gone to 9mm. 357 sig ammo is ~200 fps faster and 160 more foot pounds of energy are pros as far as cost, I own so much 357 sig ammo it will last a life time so thats a non issue.

Mrgunsngear I have a question. For Home defense. If someone breaks into your house at night an you had to choose between a 200 grain 40cal glock 23 or a 124 underwood 357 sig... which would you grab to save your life?
@murcielagosv92446 жыл бұрын
If you're shooting 200gr .40 you're stupid. 165gr in .40 once you start pushing 200 you might as well get a 230gr .45. Also I would grab the sig(630ft lbs) not the .40 (450 ft lbs). Underwood .357 sig is practically .357 magnum hot and I would take that all day over any semi auto cartridge.
