It’s astonishing to me that huge projects built in the 90’s are already coming down (the Dallas stadium, the Chinese viaduct). A project that large should have MUCH longer than a 30 year life. What colossal wastes of money, energy and materials.

I lived in the Red Road flats 23rd floor) the same one seen being demolished, when my son was born I bought a case of beers to celebrate, we only had a small fridge and the freezer compartment bit was tiny, I got the baby bath that we bought and put water and ice cubes in it to put the beers in, the weather was terrible that night and the water was swaying from side to side along with the living room because of the wind? I had never stayed in a high rise flat before and learned that the building was made to bend or it would just crack and collapse, what a scary experience that was 😮

I wonder if a father ever takes his child to the place a 20 or 30 story apartment block used to stand and says, "Son, you were conceived about 200 feet up there. And your mom and I weren't in a plane." (kinda magical, really)

I remember seeing the the Contenental National Bank building in Fort Worth go down. I was about 2 miles away. I knew it was going to be imploded and I was showing a friend where it was. They had announced a time for the demolition about an hour later than when they actually did it. We stepped outside so I could point out which building it was, and just as I pointed, the building fell straight down. Then I heard the sound of the explosives, followed by a giant cloud of dust. Had I waited for the official time I would have missed it. It was the first building in Fort Worth that I ever saw. I was 6 years old and we were driving west on the old turnpike (now I-30), and I saw the clock which showed the time and temp. For years it was the tallest building in Fort Worth, and you could see the clock from almost anywhere in town.

Given the age, the ones planning a new build there probably have to do environmental impact studies (3 yr minimum most times) before removing all the topsoil and shipping it off for contamination disposal.
@dougtheslug6435

Come on....they do impact study on land that hasn't been developed yet, a demo and rebuild is quite a different story. The only impact may have to do with height and if it's a corridor for some migrating birds that don't know how to fly around.@@persnikitty3570

@@jacksons1010 WTC wasn't intended to look like an intential explosive caused collapse. Yet it sure looks like one The third WTC supposedly looks like a collapse. The reporter from BBC did a story on the collapse before it happened. She spoke in past tense. WTC 3 was still clearly visible through a window next to her shoulder.
@christopherjennings2830
@christopherjennings2830 10 ай бұрын
I'm sure to the misinformed they do look the same except they aren't. Watch these carefully and you see destruction of the base is what causes the collapse, any other charges insure that the building comes down orderly and in a confined space. The collapses you're referring to started in the upper third and led to a gravity fueled domino effect. No metal had to melt to accomplish this, just heated up to the point that it loses the tempering that made it strong. Combine that with the unique system of having the outer skin providing the majority of the structural integrity and you have a flaw exploitable by a guy who just happened to have a doctor's degree in structural engineering.

Yep building 1 fell in its own footprint so did building 2 then add building 3 that had not suffered any damage also falling in its own footprint, sad but its not the first time the American government has pulled off such things. May those that lost their lives on that day rest in peace. Am not American but what I saw was controlled demolition probably military grade thermite , wont say what that explosive was but HE versions of it exist, 2 many anomalies about that scenario exist and add into that the light plane that crashed into the Pentagon, strange no wreckage was found at hat event also strange how no forensic investigation was done at the WTC site and all the rubble was conveniently shipped out without analysis, by the way most of it was shipped to China as scrap steel but I digress, I find it bizarre that suddenly passports where found from the alleged hijackers at ground zero, explain that one to me, yeah one jet motor was recovered I see red flag ops all over the whole event. Disagree with me that's fine but anyone reading this comment I ask you have just watched a multitude of controlled demos falling into heir own footprint, see any similarities if no unfortunately you are either blind or indoctrinated about he events of September 11 . How dare I say that , I lost two people in hat event.

The first 23 seconds is the short version. No need to watch further if you're in a hurry. And the physics is badly explained around 24:40, the "higher end" does not move faster, in fact you can see it is actually lagging behind the rotation of the bottom part. If the chimney could have stayed together, the "higher end" would HAVE to move faster, but it can't so the taller items break instead.

They wire in time delays so parts of the structure will start to collapse before other areas fall. One way to get it falling in the right direction.
@persnikitty3570
@persnikitty3570 11 ай бұрын
@@davew7250 Exactly this. Cord is selected for burn rate and attempts are made for precise timings so that structural sections are weakened first, before directional ones are fired. You really don't want to mess up, as the competition is very fierce, and standing landmarks after what should have brought it all down can make getting another contract rather challenging.

I am amazed that so many 'new' buildings are demolished because they have served their purpose, or are outdated. Maybe builders should read the audience and realize we do not want to be stuffed into high rises (well, outside of Asia, at least).

If the towers hadn't been hit by planes and building 7 hadn't been partially collapsed to begin with, they probably would've been. My Dad worked in that building and lost a lot of his coworkers that day...and I nearly lost him myself. I'm glad the WTC wasn't included. Calling that day a "controlled" demolition (in my personal opinion) is very disrespectful. However, to each their own I suppose 🤷‍♀️
