Patrick Mahomes criticized for playing ‘street ball’ by an NFL DC | NFL | UNDISPUTED

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes ranked second in The Athletic’s quarterback tiers right behind Green Bay Packers’ Aaron Rodgers. However, one veteran defensive play caller had this to say about the KC QB: “We love Mahomes because of his unorthodox throws, not because of his natural pocket presence and when that disappears, that is when they lose games. I don’t think that is a 1. I think that is a 2. Nothing against the guy. I love the kid. But take his first read away and what does he do? He runs, he scrambles and he plays streetball.”

He played shortstop & also was a pitcher who threw in the low 90's. His heart was that gridiron though. Kid is just a special athlete. I've really seen anyone quite like him in the NFL . Sure you can compare his game to alot of guys. Aaron for the sick throws. Brett for the passion & off script plays. Tom's undying passion to win & be legendary. Even the rushing ability of a very poor man's Cam. However I've never seen ALL of that packaged in a single quarterback. The kid is very special.

I never understood why defenses couldn’t figure out how to stop early Mahomes. It took them a year to figure him out even though it wasn’t that hard. I will credit Mahomes getting better at taking those check downs because he finally realized defenses weren’t going to give him the bomb plays that he can make. That is why he is a tier 1 QB. I didn’t even like Mahomes til he started to figure out how to play against defenses. It was the patience he lacked of but no longer.

Mahomes had one of the highest passer ratings last year against zone defenses which proves he can read them. Top 3 against the blitz as well. That said like most QBs he has issues with tight man 2 man coverages. Bengals essentially ran 1 high safety man w/ spy the second half and had him second guessing himself the whole game. He broke so many clean pockets to spin around when no one was after him he looked mentally unfit. The huge sack on 3rd down before they tie the game was insanity there was literally no one after him yet he ran backwards spinning twice. The spy then just came up after he tired himself out and sacked him lol. I think he’s learned a lot from that season though and without a constant deep threat he will learn to read defenses in a more complete nfl offense. He will go to the afc championship again most likely against the bills.

Mecole may not have the short explosive burst that Tyreek has, But he has a lot of speed. If Mecole can get to the next level of his game, They will not miss Tyreek. I believe they've added better secondary weapons with Skyy Moore, Scandling and JuJu. There's so much there now, Tyreek is going to be nothing but a memory by the end of the season.

Patrick is very talented but he's been very fortunate to be on a playoff team even before he got there. And unlike the other quarterbacks that are in this league especially the young ones he was able to sit on the bench for a whole year and learn the offense other quarterbacks had to learn on the fly and make their mistakes their first couple of years that's very important.
