Mick McCarthy is one of my boyhood hero’s. What he did for the Republic of Ireland football team was great. He was the general on the pitch. Him and Kevin Moran in the early days of the Jack Charlton reign was stuff of dreams that came true. Thank you Mick!

Yep - I was with you on that journey at Lansdowne etc . They were hard men but slow to be fair , but Jack played Lawrenson and then McGrath holding in front . Great days when we made us an exceptionally hard team to beat .

Really wanted it to work out when he was at Cardiff but just weren’t happening. As much as the football was dross at times we had a stint where we played some unbelievable stuff. Football seems to have moved a bit further on from his managerial style but sounds a class act and I’ve nothing but respect for the guy
