I really like those because of the theme, as well as the cosmic omen. The rest of it is all over the place thematically. You get one form with a little bit of extra healing, one with a little bit of extra damage, and one which you'll probably always pick because it makes concentration checks almost irrelevant, especially for lower levels. What role does this druid fill? They should just lean in to the divinatory theme all the way.

Do note that the Fey Ranger's 11th level feature that allows them to charm, frighten, or damage when anyone close enough succeeds on a save against charm or frighten keys off of their new pseudo smite ability that gives a save or be frightened effect in addition to the no-save. So potentially the ranger can smite damage each round while spreading out the damage/mind altering effects each time an enemy succeeds against the fright. The new ranger is amazing at dealing with several targets with this tactic!
@jemm1134 жыл бұрын
The new ranger definitely favors taking on a skirmish playstyle not dissimilar to how monk's are usually geared! What with the extra damage on your weapon not working on -the same- enemy multiple times a turn. That along with what you've pointed out definitely means this is an alternative way for rangers to jump into groups of enemies at a time.

Assuming you sold your starter gear for chainmail, and plus 1 armor and attack infusions, at level 3 the armoror can have 19 a.c., the shield and cure wounds spells, a 1d8+1 thunder attack that grants disadvantage against attacking allies, thorn whip to pull enemies closer, firebolt for even further enemies,but doesn't need a separate spell focus, doesn't need to meet str requirement, and gains 3 temporary hit points every bonus action. That's crazy strong.

@Rodrik184 жыл бұрын
My take: Artificer (armorer): decent subclass, good flavor. The guardian getting temp hp equal to level as a bonus action so early is very strong, and i would probably make this the higher level "guardian" bonus and give the pulling field at a lower level. The infiltration one doesnt feel ties to the theme well at all. Druid (circle of stars): starts off decently enough, but cosmic omen is a touch strong and steps on portents from divination pretty hard-- cosmic omens is more numerous and easier to use as you see the roll first. The mass teleport is also poorly worded -- intelligent monsters could opt in to following you after the first time. Perhaps make it "creatures of your choice" get teleported. Ranger (fey traveler): its ranger. Its a mess. The theme is decent enough, but there's too much extra verbage to try to make it useable. The "bonus action to deal extra damage once per turn" is also a thin reskin of nearly all the other ranger subclass options. Blessings of the courts is a poorly worded smite clone without scaling. This means it is competing for low level slots that have several good options and entirely front loads the feature; it is also odd that the class gets the bonus dmg per turn *and* a smite. The beguiling twist is also fairly situational, but decent enough. Misty presence has too harsh a failure penalty, considering it is only a nerfed Greater Invisibility (to be clear, it does have some benefits, but immune for 7 days??? Hope your campaign can ignore the bbeg that got away *for a week* before the heroes try again). Overall, ranger is still being handled poorly. It needed a bit of damage boost, but this is 99.9% damage options on a theme that should be much more focused on nuance and tricks. Base ranger needs an update, as well as all ranger subclasses. Its just in a bad place, and i say that as someone who has played several.
@hectortoledo89384 жыл бұрын
About the action of the ranger while dual wielding. As per the Shield master Sage advice that says you need to do the action 1st before taking the bonus action it gives access too; to attack with a extra weapon you need to attack 1st which means that you then already attacked once or twice that round with no bonus from the ability to dmg, and sure a creature can take the dmg once, but that doesn’t mean you can’t target different enemies or that the extra attack feature doesn’t help to compensate for misses

Armorer Artificer Review Tools of the Trade: Everything here makes sense. Armorer Spells: I like the list of spells. Power Armor: Wow! The replacing of missing limbs is so perfect for when your character starts or losses a limb during the campaign. Armor Model: Loving the ability to change your armor’s model to fit your needs for the day. · Guardian: A very cool melee or tanking option if your party needs a frontline player. 1. The Armorer is crazy and I love it. Although it can easly reach AC above 23 and that Armor Modifications is unclear in tearms of infusing armor that already is magical. RAW artificer can't infuse magical armor, but this feature says You get 2 extra infusions that must be part of this armor, so I assume by RAI making magical armor into power armor, adds empty infusion slots in form of boots, bracers, and weapon, while chestpiece holds the original enchantment. Now for the AC calculations (reminder that character with +3 platemail and +3 shield has AC of 26). Enhanced Defense infusion gives +1 stackable AC bonus (+2 for level 10 artificers). So putting this infusion on chestpiece, boots and bracers makes +6 armor on 10th level. Now if it was platemail we add +3 sheld we have AC 29. If the armor was already +3 and we have second sheld (base shield AC bonus doesn't stack but their +3 enchantment bonus does!) and our character was an warforged we can get to the AC of wooping 34!!

I feel like the Druid is just a tad underpowered tho that might just be bias talking, i LOOOOVE the concept overall but i fear people will just ignore this one. I agree tho that the idea of getting to use wild shape charges for abilities is dope, feels like i'm not wasting an entire class feature just because i need to stay in base-form to be effective. Also i can not overstate how much i like the idea of giving classes different freebie spells depending on your choice of spellcasting focus(or lack thereof). Such a neat idea. Imagine if choosing a Hazel wand would give you Guidance and Locate Object due to the Celtic connection to wisdom or an Alder staff giving you Bladeward and Barkskin due to being a hardwood.

For the cosmic omen feature Here is what i would have added to it Weal(even) Whenever a creature you can see within 30 ft of you makes an attack roll, saving throw or ability check, you can use your reaction to roll a d6 and add the number rolled to the total. If the roll succeeds, that creature then has advantage on either all ability checks or saving throws or attack rolls for 1 minute. Woe(Odd): Whenever a creature you can see within 30ft of you makes attack roll, saving throw and ability checks, you can use your reaction to roll a d6 and subtract the number from the total. If the roll fails, the creature then has disadvantage on either all ability checks, or saving throws or attack rolls for 1 minute. You can use this reaction a number of times equal to your wisdom modifier, and you regain all uses when you finish a long rest. That's how I think it could be made a little better.

Just pointing out that you would not benefit from the advantage but one of your allies would.

I think whoever designed the the Star Druid is a fan of the Astrologian from FFXIV. "Astrologians look upon the stars to foresee the coming seasons and use their magic to employ spells. By attuning to the constellations, astrologians can draw cards to unveil mystical magicks to aid their allies in battle." In it's current form the cards just apply varying damage buffs to players, but in previous versions some cards would also deal damage to enemies. And probably their most iconic ability is called Earthly Star, which doesn't have any sort of teleportation effect like Star Flare, but instead heals allies and damages enemies when it detonates. /watch?v=ULHHIFd9bto I also noted for the Ranger ability Misty Presence is says that it hides you from a creature's senses, but then says it can't see or hear you while leaving out any other specific senses. So you could use this on a creature which rolls a Nat 1 and fails the save horribly. And then while you are oh so quietly stealing from the dragon's hoard, it simply turns around and eats you anyway because *_it can still smell you._*

Been seeing people say the ranger sounds weak. Let me math his out real quick opinions always welcomed. If we go dual wield scimitar that's potentially 3d6+15(max dex, two weapon fighting style, and multi attack) + 1d6 from bonus sction + 3d6 hunter's mark + 3d6 smite. That's a total of 10d6 +15 per round or 16d6+15 on a crit if one scimitar scores a crit as you double all dice. With a chance to do an extra 3d10 based on how saving throws play out. With the 3d10 going on a separate target than the one you hit.

@orrangutan39774 жыл бұрын
Monstrous Emila There’s a difference in spell dipping and class dipping though. Without invocations EB is just a crossbow (worse). You can just play a wizard without EB just fine, but a d6 is horrible.
@ARO3774 жыл бұрын
@@orrangutan3977 I don't quite know what you're talking about here. First, EB is a d10 and therefore superior to the crossbow in terms of damage, unless you mean a heavy crossbow in which case it's just as strong. Second, force damage is pretty rare, so encountering resistance to it is far less likely than for common piercing damage. Third, the number of blasts fired scales with your character's overall level (not class level), giving you way more bang for your buck than the crossbow. Fourth, the range on EB outclasses the first range increment of all crossbows and firing with disadvantage for more range has always been kinda sucky. Finally, because I'm nitpicking here, EB has no cost whatsoever as opposed to crossbow bolts which cost 1 gold per 20 bolts according to the PHB. Conclusion: EB is far superior to any crossbow and every single class, except barbarian because rage, would benefit from EB. There's a reason why EB is considered one of the best, if not THE best, damaging cantrip in the game. All that without invocations.
@orrangutan39774 жыл бұрын
ARO377 Heavy crossbow does 1d10 damage + modifier, meaning on average you’ll be doing maybe like 8 damage, if you have a dexterity of 20, you’ll do 10 damage on average. The crossbow only goes farther then the eldritch blast by a long shot and if you have crossbow master feat, it also scales to your level. But of course EB is better then crossbows, if you’re a warlock you’ll boost it with invocations and it’ll be better, it’s your best cantrip and that’s the purpose of it.
@archmagemc35614 жыл бұрын
Nope, since EB needs Charisma, and your an int caster. Second, you can't use sharpshooter with eldritch blast, but you can with the lightning launcher. So basically you do 2d6 + int + sharpshooter on your first attack, 1d6 + int + sharpshooter additional after level 5. Yeah you don't get the 3rd or 4th eldritch blast beams, but your also not needing to spend more ASI into charisma and those 2 warlock levels to make EB useful to you, letting you advance through artificer faster and get more feats. And having 6 items you can be attuned to is insane since your effectively an archer in plate with a shield.
@TwilightShadow10004 жыл бұрын
The Star Druid actually seems a tad overpowered at low levels to me. Best case scenario (rolled high for stats and picked a WIS-boosting race), you could cast Guiding Bolt 5 times for free at 2nd level. Not to mention the Archer Constellation gives you a bonus action d8+WIS attack for the 10 minutes you're in the Starry Form, also at 2nd level. The Monk also gets a bonus action attack, but they have to use a d4 for damage until 5th level, and their Flurry of Blows is limited by their ki point pool. The Fighter's Action Surge is once per short/long rest, so they also get shown up a bit until higher levels. I get what they were trying to do with giving the Star Druid Guiding Bolt and constellation forms, but I think maybe just making Augury and Guiding Bolt circle spells would work better, and the Archer constellation might need some tweaking.

@@NerdImmersion The way infusions work is that whatever the artificer is using to apply the infusion effects into *has to be* nonmagical. That's part of the flavor of the artificer, especially the infusions: "Give me like an hour and I'll have some temporary magic stuff for ya!" So if magical armor is then turned into power armor, it would not be able to gain *any* infusions, because it's already magical.
@binolombardi4 жыл бұрын
The first sentence of “infusing an item” in the artificer class feature section states: “Whenever you finish a long rest, you can touch a non magical object and imbue it with one of your artificer in fusions, turning it into a magic item.” The power armor feature does not limit you to choosing non-magical armor. The first sentence of the armor modification feature says you learn how to use your infusions to specially modify armor with the power armor feature. If magical armor can be power armored, and it can, then it can be infused too with the words used as written. At least when the 9th level feature is concerned. Two paragraphs down this sentence pops up. “Moreover, no object can bear more than one of your infusions at a time.” The Armor Modification feature gained at level 9 specifically breaks the class feature for no object bearing more than one infusion as long as it’s the armor you’ve selected for your power armor feature. They have written it in such a way as it allows magic armor to be chosen, but I suspect this is a way to allow armors already infused to be selected for power armor use. This is because the infusions are themselves magic items. I think they will probably modify this to exclude magical items that are not infusions after revision. I do like the idea of an Armorer artificer building everything around a set of cursed armor though.

my idea for the rogue subclass would be something like a "Torturer" that would essentially give them a more powerful familiar that can give them something to set up sneak attack with. It would either be tied to Hell or the Shadowfell. Maybe their sneak attacks could deal necrotic damage equal to your rogue level or something.
@eruditecaptain31174 жыл бұрын
My thoughts, for whatever they're worth: Armorer: I was personally wanting something along these lines, but what we got is kind of a let down to me. For starters, a silly thing I was wanting was for the armor to let small creatures count as medium while wearing it. But on a more serious note, the 3rd level is bloated, the spell list has an awkward split, or even a lack, in focus (passwall? why?), and the ability to very rapidly switch from a heavily armored frontliner to a sneaky lighting blaster seems odd. I feel like most players would pick one and only switch if a party member dies. Circle of Stars: Mechanically, I like this one, though the flavor is... It's fine. I don't love it, but it sounds cool in the right setting/campaign. My spelljammer group would love it. My only gripe is that, of the three forms you can take, Chalice is clearly the worst. Archer lets you do bonus damage every round, Dragon makes it impossible to fail Concentration checks unless you take at least (assuming your Con bonus is only +1) 24 damage in one hit, and even then it's not a guaranteed failure. Chalice, however, only benefits you when you expend a spell slot ( a limited resource) to heal, a thing you will most likely not use ALL of your spell slots for. Like, yes it makes your healing notably better (cure wounds for 2d8 + WIS + level/2, all on a 1st-level slot? Yes PLEASE), but that only does the trick if you aren't trying to blast away your enemies. Other than that issue, I like the whole subclass. Fey Wanderer: I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS ONE. I enjoy the thought of "delicate antlers" on my very serious witch-hunting ranger, I love the flavors, and I love the various abilities I'm granted by this. I especially love Beguiling Twist. Imagine with me for a moment: The party encounters a terrifying dragon. The beast, angered by our presence, roars out, using its Frightful Presence ability. The party generally fails, but the fighter remains steadfast. Using this, my ranger, quaking in his boots, points at the dragon and tells it that it should be scared. And then it is.
@eruditecaptain31174 жыл бұрын
TL;DR: I like the flavor of all of them, but the Armorer generally feels wrong and the Chalice option for the druid is underwhelming. Fey wanderer is too good and pure for this world.

Whilst the Armorer is nice it just doesn't feel as supportive as a shield based protection class/subclass should be, it seems more of a combat caster. New druid seems nice thematically unsure on the actual performance of the subclass but at least it's neat. Fey Wanderer seems like it'll fill that spot of being a ranged paladin which we never got.

As an Artificer, in order to infuse an item, it must be non-magical. So by this class description, you may be able to take a magic plate mail and use it, you won't be able to benefit from the 2 additional infusion slots :) hope this helps "Whenever you finish a long rest, you can touch a nonmagical object and imbue it with one of your artificer infusions, turning it into a magic item. An infusion works on only certain kinds of objects, as specified in the infusion’s description. If the item requires attunement, you can attune yourself to it the instant you infuse the item." Stars Druid Review Star Map: The augury and guiding bolt spells are nice and all, but no added Circle Spells. What gives? Starry Form: I really like the flavor with this. · Chalice: A healer mode. Cool. · Archer: Extra spell damage always welcomed. · Dragon: Warcaster no longer needed here. Awesome! Cosmic Omen: The randomness is chaotic. Not a bad thing per say but not a plus either. · Weal (even): This is basically Bardic Inspiration. Fine. · Woe (odd): This is basically Cutting Words. Fine. Full of Stars: Mage Rage for the win! Cool. Star Flare: A cool little nuke feature that is save or suck. It doesn’t feel like it’s worth a 5th level spell slot though. Summary: I honestly feel very underwhelmed by this. Maybe add in Circle Spells and some more altering of fate features.

Looking at druid subclasses I'm noticing that giving them bonus spells is actually not the norm. It's mainly a function of the Circle of the Land though Circle of Spores also gets a bonus list the three other official subclasses do not.

The flavor of the druid is amazing in my opinion. One of the things missing the most to me in dnd and the druid class in particular is non-animal/plant druid... I want druids who has connection to nature itself, to the earth and stones, the weather, the seasons, the stars, fates, past and future... The circle of land is too "old fashioned" and lackluster in comparison to other subclasses, while the dream druid was heading towards that direction but it still had that half backed fey flavor... This druid is indeed imperfect mechanically, but its a blessing flavor wise (with some supporting mechanics. Of course you can reflavor everything if you want to)

Why wouldn't they release more subclasses for the Artificer?
@Vawk204 жыл бұрын
When xanathar's came out with the racial feats, that section was only for the phb races and didn't include and of the volo's races, due to the "official" dnd adventurers league only allowing players to use the phb + 1 other book. If this subclass comes out in a book, you'd need phb+eberron+new book. People were spooked that volo's racial feats would happen again and artificer would be left behind forever.

While there is nothing preventing you from using magic armor as your power armor, using magic armor as your power armor would completely negate the armor modifications feature. You can't add infusions to magic items.

I absolutely love the Armorer! I've wanted to play an Artificer, but none of the subclasses was quite what I was looking for, but this definitely hits the nail on the head. The Starry form Druid is pretty cool too, and I'm happy to see it's not as bonkers as that Astral Form Monk from a while back. I would like it if your Star Map melded into your body when using Starry Form though, so that you become your own spellcasting focus while in that form, kind of like how the Artificer Armorer is their own spellcasting focus in that subclass. I can't really have an opinion on the Ranger, since the class, and all it's subclasses just don't interest me. Everything about the class and it's subclasses just feels bland to me, and this is no exception.

The Ranger's Misty Presence ability does not say it makes you invisible to the creature. It just says the creature cannot see or hear you. RAW this means that even a creature with Truesight cannot see you. They would need Blindsight or Tremor sense if you are on the ground.
@NerdImmersion4 жыл бұрын
Good point, it's weird to think you'd be undetectable by true sight but blindsight would still work. If they can't hear you, I wonder if tremorsense would still work

Tremorsense is based on vibrations made by walking, not the sound the steps make, so it should still work

I believe the infusion feature for artificer prevents you from infusing items that are already magical.
@anix7124 жыл бұрын
Yep. You can only infuse nonmagical items, so you either use a magical set of armor OR you can use your 2 infusions on it, not both.
@shaylic37954 жыл бұрын
Lucas it looks like you can have 4 infusions on the armor at 9. And the maximum number of infusions you can have active at 9 increases by two as long as the extra infusions are apart of the power armor. It seems really good regardless.
@anix7124 жыл бұрын
@@shaylic3795 Yeah, you could have 4 total infusions on your power armor, I was more meaning specifically the extra 2 that can ONLY be on the power armor. If you use magical armor, you can't use those two infusions (cause you can only infuse nonmagical items).

I'm so hoping for a book with a slew of alternative class features for the ranger. They're better then they were but they're still the weakest martial class. More worrying to me then combat damage is the fact that quite simply, the rogue scout subclass does the wilderness survivalist niche better then the ranger, and that's just sad.
@binolombardi4 жыл бұрын
The rogue scout is a great subclass that shows what’s possible with a outdoor skirmisher concept on rogue core features. Rogue sneak attack let the designers not have to focus much on damage since it’s already the standard they use to compare all other damage when creating classes and subclasses. No need for magic or anything. The outlier is that while themed for survival and outdoors adventure, all of the scouts features are always on, and are not dependent on environments. The ranger can be very powerful but with it’s limited slots and spell choices, it is very possible for players to pick spells or features that may not be used or are ineffective. This is why there is such a large gap depending on player choices, similar to the bard, warlock, and sorcerer. Frankly a ranger can be “built wrong” if a player doesn’t firmly understand the rules and class features. And by “built wrong” I mean taking features and spells thinking they will have effects they do not, and not having the play experience that may have been expected.

I was excited to see a new Ranger subclass, hoping that they push the class a bit more. then I read through it and was quite surprised. then I reread it and was a bit bummed again. I feel like they know what they have to do to make the ranger an actual good class, going into the right direction with some features. but it's still not enough to actually make me wanna play a ranger. I wish they gave the class something (change the core mechanics or via a subclass) that makes Two-Weapon Fighting actually good. the ranger seems so iconic to be either a bow wielder or the dude with two weapons - but the mechanics are just wonky at best.
