The background music is very pleasant, but it's making the narrations completely unlistenable. Otherwise it's a completely fascinating video.

Good coverage of the whaling industry as it once was. History that needed to be recorded before being lost forever. The volume of the studio narration is annoyingly low. Google auto-generated captions don't work on it too well. It has been argued that the use of kerosene for lighting and heating and then the development of lubrication oils, helped save the total extinction of whales in the 19th century. A worry... if it were not for fossil fuels, the whales would be extinct by now. Petroleum derived plastics removed the need for whale bone. Improved agriculture and animal husbandry removed the need for whale meat. Environmentalists need to understand that it has been human population expansion that created heavy demand for whaling products that almost drove them to extinction. Emotions and feeling for the animals was numbed by the need for oil, bone and meat.

Any doc about whales i watch! Its educational, but wots with the background music its up far too loud!! I dont get the producers of these docs! Ugh! But educational nonetheless! That gent is absolutely right, we need to be educated & be told wot life was like bk then & how things changed over the centuries! The Vikings would have only taken the bare minimum for wot they needed! No more no less! We do not know the meaning of less is more! Ya know! We dont know the meaning of preservation! Thinking about the future of the animals relentlessly hunted to near extinction! Very close call indeed! Hopefully knowledge being spread will help the population of all the whales that were hunted to near extinction!! Lets keep our fingers crossed! There is always hope! 🙏🏻🐋🐳🥰✌🏻

They weren’t Antarcticans. They were Europeans killing whales.

this attempted to glamourize whaling as if it isnt just waiting at the surface for the whale to take a breathe and then shooting them in the back with an explosive charge.
