Soooooo.... chopping the bolts seems a little too preemptive until we get more ascents, but do we still call this a sport route, now?

similar situation to The Fly at Rumney - a sport route if you use a rope and clip the two bolts, a boulder if you don't

to me it is still a sport route, come on look at how many pads they had... if you need like 20 pads for the landing maybe putting a spit is not a bad ide a in my opinion ajah

Endless story is 8b+ in bouldering grade and 9a in sport. I think there´s a big grading difference in sport climbing and bouldering

Well - honestly - I don't know. Aside from the undoubtedly very well executed physical aspect of Kims performance, I fail to be that impressed by the aspect that the climb/boulder problem was done "first time without a rope", seeing the - in my opinion - ridiculous amount of crashpads underneath providing a very comfortable artificial landing zone. Where would be the point one would say: "These are way too many crashpads. There is no mental challenge any more." If one could use - in theory - an infinite amount of crashpads one could pile those up in a way that the climber would always fall a few feet without getting harmed. So I would be more impressed to see a pure "without a rope" ascent without any crashpads. Otherwise I perceive this mainly as the exchange of a rope with a huge pile of crashpads for safety - which is fine, but in my opinion not "better" or "purer" than using a rope. Don't get me wrong. I don't advocate danger or taking excessive risks in climbing - the complete opposite is the case. I am only triggered when it comes to what I consider as "debatable ethics"... Just my two cents... @Kim: Please say "Hi" to your father from me. ;-)

Nobody in video says he did better or purer ascent. The video details just state, that he did what nobody has done before him. That is all.

Totally agree. I never said that my ascent was something greater or better than the ones with a rope. But to be fair if I would fall on the wrong move I would definitely have a really bad fall there. For example the mantle and the move to the lip were not safe moves at all and I know people have fallen there. Also everyone else at the boulder was not willing to take the risk and climb it with the pads I had because it’s still a really tall boulder. I just tried to make it as safe as possible without a rope because that‘s what bouldering is about for me. And I think it’s still one of the scariest highballs I did and I have done quite a lot.
