Unexpected Hospital Visit - Shunt Adjustment. We tried to avoid it, but it wasn't possible. Having the MRI, kind of threw things off with his shunt. we had to pay an unexpected visit to the hospital to get things right. Check out how Lincoln adjusted and handled things so well!

It's a necessary part of his young life, as he continues to go through this he'll realize what treatments hurt and which ones don't (like todays), which hopefully will make future visits easier. It's the not knowing that scares him and what if the easy test turns into something that hurts. One of the things I like about your blog is although we share in your heartbreak, watching Lincoln upset, you also allow us to see what makes him happy and the love your whole family shows him, and each other. Another great blog mom, you're doing Lincoln proud.

Good job Lincoln! Isn’t funny how doctors tell you how it will be a simple in and out appointment then it ends up being much longer? I’ve learned over the years there’s no such thing as an easy in and out appointment. My cardiologist appointment they said last week would take maybe 1-1.5 hours, ended up taking over 4.5 hours! Though thankfully I ended up with good results in the end! Sometimes it’s worth it to wait for the good results and I’m glad Lincoln got good results the last couple appointments! He’s a tough little guy!

Like you said at the end Megan, you have to check stuff out and if you don't you end up with more problems than you started with. Big magnets do weird things so this trip was needed for sure. Now, grilled cheese... we do cheese on toast under what we call the grill, which is the bit above the oven... you toast one side, flip it, add the cheese then back under to melt the cheese. I like putting pepper and Worcester Sauce on mine but that might be a bit zingy for Lincoln...

I have Hydrocephalus too! A few years ago, I had an MRI and it threw off my settings. I had to go from my neurosurgeon's office to get an x-ray to check to see if the setting was good. It wasn't. I had 6 rounds of going back and forth before my neurosurgeon just decided to schedule me for a revision. My shunt was really old so it would have failed eventually. We wanted to be proactive and schedule the revision ahead of time. I definitely feel your frustration and I can just smell and feel the glue or goop that the doctor puts on our head for the setting change. Lincoln, you are so so brave!! :)

yeah that's the first thing the Neurosurgeon told me when I got my programmable shunt in 2012, the only way I could still get an MRI is to get them at the hospital where he's at, get it then go have him reset the shunt. thankfully I haven't had to have an MRI since before I got the new shunt nearly 8 years ago. My old shunt was too embedded in bone so I've got both the old and current one. such is the life of someone with hydrocephalus. idk if your neurosurgeon told you this but the G=forces on roller coasters will also reset the shunt. thank goodness for KZbin.

Good to know! I wasn’t aware of that and we’ve taken Lincoln to Disneyland many times since he’s had his shunts. Thank goodness nothing has come from it, but now we know in case it does happen!

Hey I have the same valve (Codman hakim??) and I've been having this same issue where it wasn't adjusting.. I've had this current shunt for about 17 years and they decided it was too risky to go in and put another one in. So what they did is put in what's called an antisiphon( or shunt assist) device down in my chest and I haven't had any headaches since. I know most newer valves that aren't codman-hakims have a built in chamber for the siphon issue but I recognized the programmer she was using and what problems he was having were the same ones I did! Best of luck to you guys. He'll be fine 💙

you are so brave Lincon. I know that living with hydrocephulus and CP can be hard. I didn't think he could have an MRI at all because of the programable shunt. I have a non-programable shunt. It's on the left side of my head. The neurosurgeon said that i no longer need the shunt and have very little hydrocephulus. They don't know how it happened. I've had eleven shunt surgeries. The last one was at the age of eight. But, i now suffer slight seizures and i take medicine. I also get botox injections for migraines.

I just recently saw one of your vlogs. It was Lincoln that caught my eye because i too have a neuro disorder which effects my lower legs. It's called CMT. So i thought i might suggest a new sport for Lincoln, skiing. Sounds crazy, i know. I snowboard so I'm quite sure Lincoln could mono-ski. I've seen many others thru the years on the slopes in worse condition than Lincoln. The "Adaptive Sports Program" is top notch. Look into it at any ski resort near you if you have not already. It would cost a small fortune if the whole family wanted to ski, but i bet they would accept Lincoln being the only one to participate considering his condition and limited ability to participate in sports. I would love to see the joy on his face coming down a big slope at Alta or Snowbird. God Bless.

Glad everything was alright and he coped relatively well. He’s such a courageous little man. I haven’t been doing too well this past week. I’ve been in my wheelchair constantly for the past 4 days. I haven’t even been able to walk with my walker. My pain has been excruciating and I’m seriously wondering if my walking days are over. I’m so pleased that we’ve now moved into a fully accessible bungalow because my mobility isn’t getting any easier. Have you made many adaptions to your home for Lincoln?

I had the magnetic shunt in 2016, when the old one stopped working after 33 years. It didn’t work well for me. I had headaches and I would get up, getting dizzy, even when I was at work. Finally 7 months later, I decided to go back to the neurologist, and he sent me to ER after the doctor’s visit. I had the CAT SCAN, they wouldn’t do MRI due it was magnetic. While I waited forever in ER (it was Thursday night), the ER doctor told me that I needed to be admit, surgery at 8 AM morning... because the magnetic shunt wasn’t working. After a new shunt placed, I’m fine. I’m surprised that your son had MRI when he had the magnetic shunt. Maybe technology improved since 2017. I just hope, for my sake, this is the LAST one!

Yeah, I don’t know 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s what his primary care physician suggested. I’m sure the CT scan wasn’t detailed enough for them to be able to see what they needed to with his lump in his arm. I have the radiologists a heads up about his shunt. We just came to the realization that he’d have to have it adjusted. I’m just glad we figured out what the lump was and all is well 🤗

Glad to see Lincoln is doing better, within the circumstance, if there is something annoying is having that gel in your hair, then it dries ,becomes sticky, just seeing Lincoln eat that sandwich, he takes it apart to make sure it has enough cheese in it, I thought after going through that procedure, it would make him more hungry, after being so many hours there, I know if it were me, I would have to have a refill, to charge up my batteries, I bet after having the sandwich & reading a book it*s time to play video games, or his therapy, Lincoln has made such progress, it*s unbelievable, I wouldn*t be surprised if he starts walking instead of using the crutches that would be awesome to see, I would try to see about getting an opinion , do they see Lincoln walking on his own, even if it*s little by little, the way he maneuvers those crutchesreal fast, out the way here comes Lincoln,🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍✌✌✌✌✌✌✌✌✌✌

I have a shunt I don't know what shunt mine is but I have a tube going down the right side of my neck I had it inserted when I was very young and it has grown with me I'm now 20 and i haven't had a shunt replacement yet touch wood.

When I was in the hospital for the e.r.c.p. I was very scared of the mask 😷 and I'm allergic to the protocol and they would didn't care about that they were very lucky that nothing happened 😔 💔 other wise they would have gotten sued the people at goodsammaritan hospital i love ❤ mommy Meagan and daddy Scott and the families as well 😢
