Looking at the beauty (beauty?) of the mountain lakes I'm thinking about the HUGE efforts people made during the construction of these mighty dams. Simply impressing ..

04:50 I did took that road between Bormio and the Umbrail last summer. I thoughts those turns were familiar... Started in Bormio around 8 in the morning, and rode to the Umbrail pass and then back through the Stelvio. Magnificent place, I loved it.

It really is a stunning place. For me personally I like it so much more without the mass tourism, I was there in a good time of year

@@LNRmoto Yeah, Stelvio was a pain. Buses and car one after the other. A car had to reverse to let a bus pass and the whole procession grinded to an halt. I went back to do the Umbrail a 2nd time that day, just to compensate

So glad to see "my" Stelvio through your eyes, Leonoor. AND: You also captured the mighty bearded vulture (18:43) - stunning! I just came back from a meeting with the old owner of the Hotel Passo Stelvio; he sold this hotel some years ago as he discovered that skiing will not be THE thing at the Stelvio forever. This summer I spent at least two weeks on top of the Stelvio with planning, writing the script and filming for a special "tribute video". 2025 will be the 200th anniversary of this iconic road - we have to celebrate that, don't we? ;-) Kind Regards from the Stelvio basement ;-)

I think I spent a night there in that hotel once some years back! It was very much a ski orientated hotel and looked a bit out dated. I tried knocking on their door but no one was there. Would have loved to stay there the night. Funny how small this world is.

@@LNRmoto It‘s a pity that the hotels on the Stelvio look like they look today. They had their best time in the 1960s when ski-tourism was on its peak. I learned then there were 5000 beds on the pass and hundrets of ski teachers. Was a „must“ then for every fellow Italian to spend at least one week in the summer there. We received a video from the construction of the Tibet hut in the 1950s. I could not believe how many people, cars and busses where on the pass. Confronted with that, todays gathering of motorcycles is simply nothing. The old owner of the Hotel Passo Stelvio told me that he can‘t understand how the house is managed today. Would be THE cash cow on the pass if managed the right way .. but, we‘ll never know what the new owners think or do with that. Best place to stay on the Stelvio - imho - is the Tibet hut. It‘s the only hotel at the Stelvio that is renovated, nice, with still resonable prices. Watching the sunrise from there is magic! Stay safe, Leonoor, and thank you for your great work 👍
