I would contact local fire departments. Speak to the Chief or training officer. ..speak to the chief to get further. To get a wildland fire I and II certification, they have to have a couple of live burn classes (I teach them here in MO) They can do a controlled burn and teach at the same time. Many times they just ask for a donation or charge a small fee and are training future firefighters at the same time! Plus those fire maniacs will get in there and spot burn whatever will burn! lol Offer drinks and light meal the day they come out like cater pizza or subways ...it will make the guys and gals go the extra mile for you!

This is a great idea plus gives the firefighters an idea of your land layout a good thing if you ever need them.

I live in a small rural community and I agree, those guys ( and girls ) would love to have a chance to get in there and practice their skills they have been taught. My son is a full time firefighter now in the next city over but he used to be a volunteer firefighter here and they were always looking for opportunities like this. I hope you reach out to them. It would be so helpful to your family and the firefighters in your community! 🤗🥰 Good luck with whatever you decide to do. As always I’ll be here to keep your family company ❤❤❤

Jason once you have your wooded area cleared, you can contact conservation and ask about their native tree sale.... you can ususally pick up native tree starts for like $1-$3 each... here in MO they are $1 each and you have to purchase in lots of 10 seedlings. Some states go by county and some are state wide but check into that to encourage the natural trees to take over! I also wonder what it would take or if your contractor can divert that spring/ wetland area to keep your pond filled and the land part a bit more dry?

I just bought a 10 acre property in the middle of the woods. The last owner put in a large horse shoe shaped driveway and that was it. I fell in love as soon as I saw it. Once it was fine, I called the DNR and forestry department to look at the property since it was heavily wooded. Due to bad storms in the past a lot of trees came down, or the tops came down causing them to lean into other trees. They told me at some point it was clear cut and that’s why the growth is similar to yours. They did a few samples by taking 1 tree down in different areas of the property and found out the trees were all rotted in the center. They said the best bet for the property going forward, the soil any future growth, the best option was to clear it out. It broke my heart at first, but once it’s all cleaned up I’ll be able to plant new trees that will out live me, I can set up my property to my liking as well as planting plants that the wildlife will love. It’s going to be a ton of work, but I’ve been working one area at a time like you mentioned(50x50), cutting the brush piles, stacking the wood for myself and to sell some, then once the piles are smaller they will be burnt and the ashes will be plowed into the dirt to help with the nutrients. I also have awful soil with atleast 75-80% of it being clay, so the ash will help drastically. It doesn’t look pretty right now, but it will once it’s all cleaned up. When it comes to wooded areas, there’s no simple, done in 1 day fix. It always looks worse before it looks better. But once it’s all said and done, it’ll be gorgeous!

Jason, since Brooke has never had the procedure she is undergoing, she does not know how deeply "under" they take her. After my experience, all I wanted to do was go home and crawl into bed and sleep until the next day ( no crazy hunger pains at all - and absolutely no fried food for a couple of days. ) After a while, she may learn that intermittent "FASTING FOR A DAY "actually feels good, and is good for the body. Loved today's video. Thank you for sharing. Blessings, Graces and Peace to you ALL !

Take your 50x50 rule working on the perimeter. Maybe do 1 acre at a time, then add goats on that acre, move to the next acre until it's all taken care of. That would gove you the ability to get the perimeter secured like Brook spoke about, while working on managing the forest growth that is unwanted.

We cleared our property little by little. I cleared a lot with just a good pair of loapers while my hubby was at work. Then, when he got home, he used a chain saw. We started close to the house with an electric dragging the extension cord along. Then I forced him to get the gas one. We only had about 5 acres, though. It felt good. We drug and piled everything by hand. No tractor or side by side.

Puts on his “garage “ slippers and does all the maintenance on our mowers, boats, wheelies, tiller, and all the engine equipment. Sharpening blades, greasing everything, and so on. He enjoys his garage time. Yes it’s work and play would be more fun but like you said it has a good effect on his wellbeing 😊.

We don't have as much land, but saplings and vines were a problem. We invested in a Sthil brush cutter with the blade that could cut up to a 2 inch diameter. Even i was able to use it with all my medical issues. It will cut through at the bottom, and it saves your back.

Jason, We have this same problem on our place. We have 30+ acres of woods and it was almost impossible to walk through them. This last year we had a significant portion of it logged and that helped a lot. We were hands on for the entire process and able to minimize the damage logging crews can do. We instructed the loggers to leave the tree tops where they lay, instead of pushing them into a big pile and we have been out cutting the tree tops into fire wood. (I had my hubby teach me how to operate a chainsaw which speeds up our process. Tell Brooke it's FUN) When we're done we will sell lots and lots of firewood and of course we use some in our fireplace too. Investing in better equipment was a necessity. We bought a couple new, Very large chainsaws, as well as equipment to help us guide a tree down should we need to remove more and it works great for removing "widow makers". Also, I have learned in the years since we moved here, to take my cutters with me every time I go out. That allows me to cut vines off at ground level and of course clear a path if need be, kinda like your 50 x 50 idea.

I'm only dealing with 5 acres here in New England.. with bittersweet strangle vine and just a lot of out of control undergrowth. I may find some goat people and see if that's a workable solution. Also the 50 × 50 method might bring some order. I'd be more aggressive about it all if I were 40 years younger! Youth... wasted on kids 😅 By the time you FIGURE OUT WHAT to do... you're too old to do it. 😢 YUP... Never leave the house without your cutters! 😅

In regards to the land management in the tropical coastal area in Queensland Australia a few years ago the Shire Council decided to advertise for goat farmers to help with the land clearance in the steep mountainous areas that no machinery could safely be used. For too many years burning was the only option but due to the dampness it was never successful and invasive weeds had taken over. A few hundred goat are let free each day to forage and it has been very effective. Just wished Daniel Arms lived closer and still had some of the equipment for the skidsteer. That was awesome to watch even for this old grandma 😂 Wishing you all the best with the tractor and chainsaw.
