As someone who has spent years dealing with elderly relatives I can tell you people over 70 don't bounce back as quick as they did when they were 25. Especially if there's blood loss involved. She's probably covered in bruises too. It'll probably be another few weeks before she's back in fighting form. Best wishes to her and her husband. He sounds like he's taking real good care of her.

It's a good thing Princess Anne is under close observation - I remember how awful it was when Natasha Richardson died, partly because she'd insisted nothing was wrong after her fall on the ski slopes.

@MegaMesozoic omg I remember that and she just dismissed it and said it was just a minor fall and then died two days later from her head injuries. Very sad for her,Liam and their teenage boys. Head injuries can be minor or serious and can be fatal as in her case. Princess Anne wouldn’t have been released from the hospital if they deemed it extremely serious but obviously she is on strict instructions from her medical team and they will still be monitoring her at home. I hope she gets the care and the rest that she needs and will resume Royal duties when she has been declared medically fit.

I had a head injury when I was in the Air Force and was effectively grounded for six weeks. I passed medical but ended up lying to the doctors about my random bouts of double vision in order to get back on unrestricted duty. I hope the Princess Royal doesn’t do what I did, but instead listens and follows doctors orders. She owes those of us outside the UK and the Commonwealth absolutely nothing, but she is a global inspiration and example of hard work and duty. Whether she knows it or not, or would ever acknowledge it, her example as a great human touches and inspires us. Get well and try not to go stir crazy. All the love, from America.

I know the Princess Royal has had at least one bad concussion before and now this one. My husband has had 3 over his lifetime and the last one when he was about 55, he lost short term memory for a bit. It came back but he still can't remember what happened to him. (he was out chopping wood for our winter heating system). After that, he has worn a hard hat and not gone to the timber alone. I also know as explained by my daughter who is a nurse that the more concussions you have and if they are hard enough hits to the head area, the more severe the damage. We are praying for the Princess Royal to come to full recovery soon.

My eldest daughter fractured her skull and gave herself concussion after slipping on wet floor and hitting her head off a radiator. She thought she was fine and went back to work only to realise that being at work wasn't a good idea. You never mess with concussion and you need your brain to settle down itself without rushing back in. Thoughts are with the Princess Royal for a speedy but gentle recovery

Paying the Princess Royal will recover as quickly as possible! At 32, I had a head injury where i tripped on wet grass, in winter, and fell onto my concrete garden wall. It put a nice gash on my temple and lot quite a lot of blood until someone had been able to come and call an ambulance. Even tho I was discharged later that day, I was told to "take it easy". I thought I felt fine. But I started to feel a strange head fog and tire very easily, but i was as fit as I had ever been. Even tho the injury officially healed, some days I did not feel 'right'. I did decide to step back from some commitments, and it was only maybe 6 months later when i had fully recovered that I did realise just how strange head injuries can make you feel. You do need to rest - mentally as well as physically rest a lot and take it slow after a severe concussion. No matter how fit you think you are.

Anne really has my sympathy. As someone who has always bounced back from injuries very easily, it's annoying, when you get older, to have to pace yourself. Your head thinks you're still 25 but your body tells you otherwise. I hope she gets better soon.
