This is beautiful. About the canon of the characters, is there somewhere to keep up with the Crimson Syndicate lore if that’s still a thing? Or is it all in your head and you have yet to put it out somewhere?

For Kenji in particular it's all still in my head, but there will be some written stuff out somewhat soon when I update his duelist page. (I'm also starting a mini series following him and that is the main lore stuff that caused this animation to not be canon anymore) Pish's lore hasn't really changed much and Yullis lore changes are still in Mayru's head

@@TheSatanicSock Pish vs Kenji as a battle is canon, but contextually a lot has changed on Kenji's end. Originally there was the factor of Kenji's brother Cielo's soul having been sealed inside him. This part no longer holds up as I've kinda scrapped Cielo's character (he was originally set to be unsealed and end up betraying Kenji and trying to kill him before later getting killed himself by the antagonist of my series). As of now, Cielo _technically_ exists but Kenji is not related to him and at the time Pish vs Kenji would happen, Kenji hasn't even met Cielo. Kenji _does_ still have a soul sealed inside him (which was originally there along with Cielo) but that's a different person entirely. In my version of the duel, Kenji has a dislike for Raitera Valley because it's where he and his family were when Klash (doesn't show up in Stealth's version of the duel, he's the brown stickfigure in mine, also fun fact he was my RHG character) murdered Kenji's family. This plot line straight up no longer exists and Kenji's backstory has been changed to have him not even be from Cier at all. Won't go into more detail cause this comment is already really long xD but that's kinda the gist of the main changes up to the point of Pish vs Kenji

While Pish was aimlessly travelling Cier hoping to bump into the green guy who murdered his master, and he's tagging along with Kenji cause nothing better to do? @@TheSatanicSock that was the story yeah, Kenji is from this same forgotten nation, however he is no longer the prince of it. Klash didn't technically start a coup, he was actually just hired to assist it by assassinating the royal family (this part is still true, Kenji is just no longer part of this family). Kenji's current story goes as such (as short as I can possibly make it xD): Kenji's nation has two major clans: the Garka clan and the Corvus clan. On paper, Kenji belongs to the Corvus clan, however he is actually half of both, placing him in a heavily looked down upon sub-clan formally known as Mao'va but far more commonly just called half-breeds. The King of the nation (called Etonea) is also part of the Corvus clan. The Garka clan revolts one day and, aided by Klash and some of his men, kill the royal family and proceed to commit genocide against the Corvus clan. Kenji happens to run into the princess while fleeing the carnage and they both escape the island as the only known survivors of the genocide. They land in Raitera Valley which is where Kenji meets and fights Pish, who then offers Kenji and the princess to travel with him. They accept because they have nowhere else to go. Also yeah, Crimson Syndicate is still a thing, at the time of this specific animation the faction is established, Pish just happened to only ask Kenji to accompany him (Kenji is pretty much his closest friend by this point).

@@DaSassyOwl Personality is one thing, but there are other considerations simply by even being able to talk in the middle of a fight in the first place. If you are talking literally while fighting then that means you can afford to. You are divided in your focus between your actions and what you are saying, but despite that the opponent is so weak as to be unable to take advantage of that reduced concentration. A fight being put on pause is more reasonable, though it does mean both they and their opponent are willing to do so. It's like how many fighting games include a taunt that you will never see used in any serious play.

​@@vadandrumist1670 That kinda is Kenji's whole thing tho lol, most of the time he can in fact afford to be talking while fighting. Up until Yullis sped up at the end there, Kenji was faster than her, so he does have the time to taunt.

@@KiloJoule19 "faster" is far from the most important factor in this. What matters most is just how much concentration would be lost by talking. Consider how fast your body and mind have to be operating to keep up with an opponent in the first place, and comparatively how much slower you will be talking. You have to operate on two different speeds simultaneously to prevent yourself from slipping in the fight or break up your speech. And on top of all that your opponent isn't just sitting around so unless you're fighting literally entirely on reflex you have to read what the opponent is doing and now not only react appropriately, but do so without stumbling over your words. Finally even presuming its possible there's still another problem with it, which is the second thing I mentioned in my reply to DSO and is actually the category all if Kenji's talking falls under during this fight. Let's look at the three incidents combat dialogue happens in this video. At 2:31 Kenji starts chuckling and gives a sentence immediately after his companion was thrown, right next to him. We see Yullis attack Kenji next, but the frame where he first acknowledged an attack is at 2:35, meaning that for all her speed it took 4 irl seconds after a throw for Yullis to recover and followup. Next is 2:39 where Yullis' elbow is blocked. Yullis has been attack rapidly immediately before this and can easily continue her attacking by pulling away, but instead gives Kenji time to speak a line which seems to aggravate her. During that time though Kenji could have done anything to take advantage of the fact that he had a possible grip on her arm, and this is something Yullis would be instinctively aware of and she would know it is therefore in her best interest to pull away as quickly as possible. Finally 3:02, the one non-egregious example as he even interrupts himself to say the line, or so you'd think. Between 2:59 and 3:02 Yullis does five attacks (which Kenji evades with such confidence that he thinks he talk) in which she is a blue, but this final attack has comparatively immense wind-up time. If she had kept using normal speed attacks Kenji would not even have had the time to speak, at least not while actively dodging. If we are presuming that was slowed down for viewer benefit then if she had sped up faster than Kenji could keep up while maintaining the rate of pressure then Kenji would've been hit before he could even reach the part of the sentence where he was surprised. As you can see, none of these have anything to do with Kenji being faster unless he's talking so fast it would be unintelligible in real time. I'd say combat talking is one of the five great flaws of animated combat because of how accommodating for it in such high-speed fights easily causes such issues.

I don't really see the overall problem though lol, every time he speaks he's either not moving or has some distance from Yullis. Animated fights are not the only ones who do combat dialogue either, it's sorta just a common trope in fiction animated or otherwise, though I guess you're just not a fan of it.
