I took out frames and placed the box in the hive and came back the next day. Easy as pie. So far my bees have been so easy going I have not needed smoke or protective gear.

Sam, Excellent job on placing your bees. I've not seen rhe top feeder before. We have another bee class in June. I'm going to ask rhe instructor about them (pick her brain). I like the top feeder more so than the jar. Sorry to see the feed jar fell, and broke. Yes, I'm like you....don't want to attract the other wild critters with the sugar water.

Sam, you definitely need to tell your pcp you raise honeybees and have her prescribe you some Epi pens in case something goes wrong one day. It made me a nervous wreck watching them swarm you ❤

We actually have several because Carly has a severe nut allergy. But, that’s a great idea for people who don’t have access to them. You never know you’re allergic until it happens.

@@junodacres That’s Great! It’s so weird how things work. For some reason with members of my family, over the years they wouldn’t be allergic to anything, then get stung once and bam.. ended up in the hospital with their throat closing off. (My dad). From that moment on, his morning routine when getting dressed was putting the epi pen in his pocket. We lived in the country, so you never knew when walking outside what you were going to experience. When I was younger, I was playing on my metal swing set and next thing I knew I was being attacked by yellow jackets and red wasp. My brother ran and football “tackled” me scooping me up and running for his life with me. He ran me inside, Screamed bloody murder for mom, and mom told him to lay me on the bar. (We didn’t have a kitchen table, we had a 10ft bar in the kitchen.). She began grabbing packs of cigarettes out of the freezer, breaking them open and putting tobacco in a bowl and then put water on it and then started putting it on every single sting mark I had. Then my dad was giving me liquid Benadryl and trying to call my Allergist. I took allergy shots twice a week, plus daily meds, and thank the Lord dad had his epi pens because that’s what got me through the worst moment. And when my boys were little, one put his hand on a post and laid his hand down on a wasp. I swear, from the time of me being young, to my son when he got stung, they don’t make cigarettes like they use to because it didn’t work on him. Maybe I was doing it wrong, but I’m not sure how you can do it wrong when you’re just dumping the tobacco in a bowl and adding some water. Lol Anyways, life is just weird. People who say.. oh I’m fine, I’ve never been allergic to “whatever”, can suddenly be allergic with the next time it happens. Same with poison ivy. I had never been allergic to it until my ex was burning a brush pile that had poison ivy in it that had been cleared out. And I ended up getting it all over my body, and in my lungs from the smoke from the fire. Like who on earth would think you could get it like that? Hope your bees all decided to go into their new home! I’m so excited for you and your new journey! 🐝

Wow!! You've really been through it! So out of curiosity, after you got the poison ivy all over your body and into your lungs, from the smoke burning of the poison ivy, did they end up having to hospitalize you? So sorry you had to go through all that. Sounds painful and very frightening from not being able to breathe because your throat closed up. I've dealt with something similar during my double bi-pass heart valve surgery. I struggled to breathe because of the clogged artery, It caused me to panic and not allow them to put the oxygen mask on me, til a aware respiratory specialist realized why I wasn't wanting the mask on and placed it over my nose & mouth and made eye contact me, instructing me how to breathe really hard correctly using the oxygen mask to prepare my lungs to breathe correctly before my heart valve surgery. And then had to deal with the air tube down my throat to give my lungs oxygen. That was even more frightening. Well God bless you. @@KatzNDkradle I didn’t have to be hospitalized Praise the Lord! They gave me a breathing treatment plus steroid in the inhaler, plus a steroid shot and a prescription of steroids. I have had a nebulizer for as long as I can remember, so they just gave me a current script for it so I could do breathing treatments at home, and I had a rescue inhaler just in case. Bonfires terrify me since unless they know for sure they didn’t have and poison ivy in the pile.

That’s so scary! Thank you for sharing with us! So thankful for epi pens and meds to reverse reactions. Carly’s nut allergy is very severe and very tricky because it can sneak in foods very easily. Usually Benadryl reverses it quick if we catch it in time but last summer we had to use her epi pen. Benadryl didn’t do a thing! We lived 50 min from a hospital then (Bristow’s had closed up for a couple years) Flint drove her to Tulsa, it was a scary ride for her trying to get there. So I hoard epi pens, they stay good for a long time even though they say they’re expired.
