Hi everyone! Today we will talk about Chernobyl, the site of the worst nuclear accident in history.
On April 26, 1986, at a nuclear power plant near Pripyat, Ukraine, a test at reactor number 4 caused a violent explosion and fire, releasing enormous quantities of radioactive material into the atmosphere.
The accident forced the evacuation of thousands of people and the radioactive cloud spread across much of Europe. To contain the disaster, numerous "liquidators" were employed and suffered serious health consequences.
Today, Chernobyl is an exclusion zone, but it attracts tourists and scientists. The disaster changed global perceptions of nuclear energy, influencing safety policies and practices.
