Someone's probably already mentioned this, but I love the bit of English Bob characterization when he's beat to hell, riding out of town in the carriage and cursing everyone. He drops his high brow King's English accent and reverts to his low brow blue collar accent. His whole life is a pose, a mask he wears. Such a cool expansion of the character with so little effort.

Another fantastic movie by Clint Eastwood is "Gran Torino," which he directed and produced. It's not a western, but a contemporary story about a retired auto worker and Korean war vet, and the movie begins with Clint after his wife's funeral. It's all about how he's the same, but everything around him has changed. All of his neighbors have died or moved away, and he doesn't know anything about, or even want to get to know his new neighbors. But then he learns that he has more in common with his immigrant, Hmong neighbors than he does with his own family.

It's claimed one of the main reasons that female action heroine movies generally flop is not because they're worse at it than men, but because they always make them into general role model characters with hardly any imperfections. One of the great things about this movie is that it puts the viewer in a conundrum where he really wants to root for Clint Eastwood's character, but may also feel a lot of inner conflict in doing so because he's done so many bad things in the past.

I've watched about 15 different movie review channels and approximately 6 or so of your reviews. For what it is worth, you have real potential. One thing NO ONE seems to be doing in the reaction videos is explaining WHAT people are seeing in terms of the camera - what causes it to move in that way, why do the colors look like they do, what equipment is used, why did the director choose to frame it in this manner? Ya'll are uniquely qualified of all reviewers I have seen to comment on movies in that manner and I believe if you would focus a bit more on these types of comments (possibly done in post viewing comments edited in to describe the shot or simply added in via text on the screen) your reaction channel can grow to truly be one of the greats.

I love the closing scene as he rides off into the darkness on his white pinto. It's like the horse is a ghost, a memory that will go on through the ages of story telling. For me, it's possibly homage to one of his earlier films.

The part I love about this movie is the beginning and ending scrolling text bookends. Initially, it doesn’t make sense, but by the end of the film, you realize this story is the gunfighter novel written by Beauchamp. Instead of trying to find a source to tell him how the wild west actually was, he witnessed it, and based on the ending text, implies Beauchamp based his novel on his own research rather than the heresay of “credible sources”. In a way, this story is more about Beauchamp as a stand-in for the western genre audience, going through the disillusionment in real time.

one thing about this western compared to the other westerns is that it is not as simple as a black and white world, right and wrong, and good vs evil. The "good guy" isn't really a good guy and the hero doesn't ride off into the sunset with happiness. It's definitely a more gritty and realistic western approach

Maybe my ATF of any genre. I love the way he alludes to his past with reluctance bc he's trying to escape it. How they leave what he did in the past to our own imaginations. He's trying to be a diff man and honor his wife's memory. He shows his frailty and rust. Until he hears about Ned and then his decade long struggle to escape his real self is over. I love Little Bill. He's the most interesting character to me. Neither villain nor hero but a mix of both, like Muny. He doesn't fight fair and why should he, it's not a game. He's sadistic and hard but for a purpose. He is trying to protect his town and discourage would be assassins from all over the West from destroying Big Whiskey. Because he always puts the odds heavily in his favor, he does a great job of breaking down the "heroic" mythology of the old West.

This movie spends the whole time deconstructing the crazy gunfight western movie, then rebuilds it all back up again in one scene. I love the meaning behind Little Bill being "no carpenter" when he thinks he's the good guy. Also everyone was using single action revolvers. As they all panicked in the saloon they had to pull back with their thumb and in their hurry all probably shot high. All Bill Munny did is duck and he was safe.

This movie shows you that "Post Modern" is not something to be feared, and that even a political conservative like Eastwood can see the shear creative potential of such an intellectual stance, meaning it doesn't have to be "white hats" vs "black hats" to be compelling -- GREY hats vs GREY hats is just as, if not MORE compelling. LONG LIVE these re-examinations of treasured myths and illusions!

"What I've felt, What I've known Never shined through in what I've shown. Never free. Never me. So I dub thee unforgiven." Fun Fact: Clint Eastwood's mother Ruth Wood toiled through an uncomfortable day (wearing a heavy dress) as an extra, filming a scene where she boards a train. However, the scene was eventually cut, with her son apologizing. All was forgiven when he brought her to the Academy Awards and thanked her prominently in his acceptance speech.

Cracking movie, shot through with decency concealed behind hard reality. Little Bill is the most fascinating character for me; so determined to keep Big Whiskey decent by being indecently violent, and while English Bob is a bit on the nose anti-Redcoat bullshit, their interaction is masterful, the jail scene especially. Oh Richard Harris, how we mourn thee! A special film and a comment on Westerns that made Westerns viable again. Nice reaction. Love the enthusiasm. Onward, ever onward! Subscribed!

Yo! You guys are four away from 1000 subscribers! Congratulations!/ LOVE what you said about Gene Hackman in the beginning, man. Someone should write a script for Jack Nicholson and Gene Hackman to play. Like two brothers or something. Do a film version of Mamet's "The Duck Variations". I completely agree with you 100%. Miss that guy. You know a few years after he quit acting, they were shooting a movie on location near where he lives. Curious, he decided to walk up to the set and see what was cooking. The P.A. assistants didn't recognize him.....they wouldn't let him on set. Oof! Some "Sunset Boulevard" s**t right there!/PS Yeah, "Dance With Wolves" won the Oscar for 1990......and "Goodfellas" didn't! So f**k the Oscars! lol. It's funny Scorsese didn't get the Oscar for "Raging Bull" and lost it to actor-turned-director Robert Redford's "Ordinary People"....and ten years later exactly he loses to actor-turned-director Kevin Costner. “Forbearance of reptiles” I assume Bob means something along the lines of having a gun on him at all times in case of rattlesnakes…. Not 100% though

This film shown character over action that killing has PTD over time even in Westerns. He settled down married and had kids though his wife died . In order for him again to kill again is anger and booze like he used to .

If you want to check out a seriously underappreciated Eastwood film, track down a copy of 'The Beguiled'. Quite the dark little tale.

I'm not a racist but it's hard for me living down south where we pretty much have racism bred into us. I respect a person's right to express himself however he feels. I just didn't care for the way that black guy got all pumped whenever Morgan Freeman was even mentioned in the movie. There were a couple of times when I actually thought he orgasmed right there beside his friend. You didn't see the white guy getting all emotional when Gene Hackman died.
