The crouching thing reduces your knockback slightly and also allows you to sometimes save yourself from falling off the edge of a block. The strat is to crouch as you get hit and then immediately sprint to cancel your momentum. Generally just spamming crouch while sprinting forward does that anyways. I call it "knockback cancelling" because it is...
