Prior to my teacher passing a few years ago, he strongly urged me to record and post more videos. He told me, “At a certain point, your playing skills are going to diminish. Before you get too far down that road, you should record some videos to mark where your playing is at that point.” Well, I’m at that point. My fingers no longer move like they used to, and my mind is just a step slower than the year before.
So, here is (what I hope) to be one video in a series, documenting where my playing is right now. These videos are all covers, most of which my band, Outta Hand, has played live over the last 11+ years. Will these videos be note-for-note along with the original music? No. Playing these songs over the years, I’ve deviated quite a bit from the recordings in some instances (and in some cases, I may even deviate between the audio recording and the video recording, as I record these separately). Are these to be used as instructional videos? If someone can find something useful within - great, but they’re not meant to instruct. Selfishly, these are just for me. Like it, don’t like it, stick it with copyright infringement - in the grand scheme, it really doesn’t matter. I’m doing this now, so that when I get to that point in life where it’s time to hang up my guitars for good, I can look back and see what was…
