Was that large capacitor slightly charged? Try discharging it with probes connected, then switch to the capacitance mode without disconnecting the probes.

Great point 👉 however it was discharged (off camera) and continued acting erratically in capacitance mode with other large capacitors as well..😮

Perhaps it's a good idea to cover the charger port to protect it from the environment. ⛈ The BSide S20 is the same way. Usually it feels very weird to put my boot on backwards!🥾 I wished they put some text beside the buttons on the top so you can easily find the buttons. I wonder if they programmed the meter to switch to voltage if there is a non-zero voltage on the capacitor? E caps have a recovery even after discharge. Definitely seems too sensitive - not firmware upgradable either I suppose. The diode mode is very good. The bar graph is not marked, and the range not identified, so... unless you remember what the counts of the meter is, the bar doesn't make any sense. Looks like black ink marker on the COM jack? In the teardown it's easy to see the USB connector is soldered to a very small amount of surface copper on the PCB. It wouldn't take much plugging force to lift the front end solder joints from delaminating from the board. Seems that UNI-T slapped their name on another brand's meter. Not what I would expect from them. 😥 BTW, more blogs about new Cheap-O's are coming up soon on KOT! 👨‍🔧

Great points as always Paul! Funny, I was thinking same thing about the com input..looks like a magic marker was used 😮 its definitely not UNI-T quality we've come to expect. Btw that plastic is incredibly slippery without the boot!

Ive got a couple m-meters that cost enough they really should be reading much higher on the cap scale, but one only hits 400 ohm max and the other smart meter works perfectly otherwise but its cap scale is also too limited especially considering it cost like $40 and its a smart meter, no too smart really - after owning a couple smart meters I kind of see most of them now as a novelty instead of a quick to use and reliable device, most are basically the same construct and too much button pushing or relying on relays and chips to get into ranges and just feels quirky - I have a Kaiweets sm. meter that overall is pretty good and accurate but Ive decided I dont care much to rely on relays to manage the auto range finding etc I find a basic switch more reliable and handy, but then im an old guy - and to me a big negative is why none of the smart meters ever have even a chrome wire style flip out stand and forward facing jacks so it can stand up - but I do give this one credit for having side inputs so good thinking there, now put a stand on it for a big ergonomic improvement-! They always seem slick and modern at first then later on feel a bit gimmicky, but to each his own they must sell 'cause they keep making them, though I kinda feel theyre all mostly built with same board/relay functionality just varying button layouts etc. and dont really see any big pluses after awhile not a big fan of rechargeable battery on a meter, if it runs down and you dont catch it you have to wait instead of just a quick install of new cells and back in business - but as long as they feel and look somewhat like smart phones I guess thats part of what sells them-?? Too many better choices for same money im betting.

@@LawpickingLocksmith Kaiweets doesn't fabricate their own boards, though UNI-T does both R&D and PCB. That being said, Kaiweets does brand a lot of top notch meters and they usually put their own twist on some of them. I hoard them too ;)

This is a real dud. I think 2.5 stars is still very generous for this contraption. I'm not sure what Uni-T had in mind with this but I think someone's gonna get fired over it.

Definitely not one of UNI-T's shining moments. Hopefully, this turd of a multimeter either gets a major update or dissappears from their lineup!👍

Short out and discharge the capacitor your meter "thinks" it is a 2 volt battery....

Great point 👉however it was shorted and had no juice left. Tried on multiple 10 mF or larger caps with the same result 🤔

Pretty meh...bad. Hilarious that it sees its own voltage in capacitance mode, which is right around 2 volts. Never had such issues with my Aneng at 68 mF, weird
