UNI-T UT123 CHEAP-O Multimeter Review & Teardown

The reason for such a low volume is because the piezo speaker is sandwich between the board and the battery compartment. It has great spacing on the selector switch to prevent arcing across the traces. As of 9/28/2020, you can get the meter for less than $15.00 usd--a good deal for a basic meter. Great review.

I have a couple of these. The lightening fast continuity and voltage beats Fluke and Amprobe and all for $15. This will do 99.9% of your fault finding needs. It was this review that did it! Only down side the display can be difficult to see in sunlight.

One thing about the display that I found intriguing: tilt the bottom of the display toward you, at eye level. Now slowly tilt the top of the display toward you. At half way the screen display disappears then suddenly re-appears as you keep tilting. To me, that's just weird.

Darren, if you're not careful this site could become the QVC of inexpensive test equipment (I've already bought 3 of them). You definitely need a leaderboard to show the meter rankings.

The multimeter is really good, especially for having it in your car for basic checkups. I got mine with a pouch and a magnetic strap on aliexpress. The strap is great if you're checking something under your car hood, the mahnet is pretty stromg, no worries of falling. Great review, it is because of your review that i bought it

This Harkens back to the days of simple volt/ohm meters, thats how digital multimeters started out way back in the day. I like the way the green indicator keeps up with the sounder. Thats a nice looking little meter, especially with the EBTN display and one of the better NCV ranges. -

They say with inverted displays you can look at them from almost any direction and the readings are quite discernible, maybe that compensates the lack of a stand. Still I'm more inclined to buy the AN113D (which has an ebtn display too) than this one.

ZOYI ZT102A and Aneng AN113D are the same multimeter. Either of these will serve you well..This UNI-T serves a different niche than these two multimeters but I still think it's a great dmm, although a stand would've been nice 😀 Let us know which one you decide to get. KOT!

Can anyone tell me what value of the five resistors are that are right next to the connection from the screen to the board and the order they go in from top to bottom.? The connection from the screen to the board failed and these five resistors got desoldered while trying to repair.

Those 5 smd Ω resistors (R13-17)205, are all 2.0 Megaohm in value. 👍

Uni-t should launch a UT123+ that include TRMS and backlight (a great bonus would be a magnetic holder). For me it would be great, and for a residential electrician would be perfect.

@@hamzamalik221 I haven't yet seen a multi meter having a fused input for voltage. But right, if you mistakenly connect over 1000 volt maybe something could be damaged. As you see in the tear down, it has a PTC resistor (green) in the input that will limit over current going in to the electronics.
