Nimo, 18, and Zamzam, 23, former students at Hagadera Secondary School in Dadaab refugee camp in Kenya, are part of a UNICEF-supported education programme that aims to encourage more girls to take science classes. The programme provides human resource support, such as employing additional science teachers, and essential STEM materials, including reagents, equipment for virtual and physical labs, textbooks, and supplementary resources. Furthermore, the strategy promotes girls' participation in STEM by implementing mentorship programmes with female role models and hands-on experiences like science competitions and fairs. This programme is part of the PROSPECT project implemented in Kenya in partnership with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the International Labour Organization (ILO), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the World Bank, with funding from the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
