Uniden PRO520XL Compact CB Radio Review by CB World!

I just used my Uniden Pro520 on a 3 hour road trip. I had it peaked & tuned & its doing 28 watts. Paired with a lil wil & cigarette light plug. I mounted the lil wil on the truck of my 07 Monte Carlo & most of the time I would talk 10 miles. Damn good little radio, I'm very impressed

Love the little Uniden radios. They are very tuff and easy to carry in your travel bag if you slip-seat . Can these little radios be tuned up? They work pretty well right out of the box...

The Pro 510 & Pro 520 are BOTH very loud radios.I have used them as a base radio & when used with an amplified D-104 desk microphone it is an AUDIO MONSTER.The number of people who call me a liar when I tell them what I am using is a whole lot.Best Buy for the money for just an AM only 40 Channel CB Radio.I'd take it over any other for being really LOUD on transmit & the receiver is good as well.

I am japanese HAM. When this radio is used in Japan, it's illegal. People using this are called illegal CB in Japan. But when being interested and going to foreign countries, I'd like to try that. There is also CB in Japan, but there is regulation. The standard of the Japanese CB radio Power 0.5w. It's even impossible to exchange 2 m of antenna. A channel, several 8 channels. いつかお空でお会いしましょう!

I agree. I was able to turn up the rf power to about 7 watts dead key, the stock mic is actually a great fit for this radio. I've tried other mics none sound as good and with a hard punch then the stock mic

Hey I need some help. I got this one for my jeep, and the pa switch is very crappy and barely works. I have to switch it on, and press really hard on the switch to be able to speak through the speaker. Could you give me some suggestions to fix it? Thanks!

Can this radio be plugged into a power outlet in a vehicle or does it have to be permanently wired for power?? I'm looking for something compact I can quickly transfer from a work vehicle to personal vehicle and really don't want a radio which I will have to permanently install in one vehicle. I was considering handheld CB's but I need something with at minimum a 5-mile range and I'm being told I would be lucky to get more than a mile with a handheld. Any helpful information or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Steel Dragon! You can use a power cord, like an AUCB91P, to plug this radio into a cigarette plug (12 volt) adapter in your vehicle. www.wearecb.com/aucb91p-cb-radio-power-cord.html It will be difficult for you to get a 5 mile range with a handheld radio although it will also depend on whether or not there are obstructions (trees, buildings, etc.) to interrupt the signals. Many people like the SA2 extended range antenna to use with their handheld radio to give them additional range compared to the smaller antennas those typically come with. www.wearecb.com/sa2-sy.html If using this radio in a vehicle, just keep in mind that, the longer the antenna, the more range you will get. The PRO520XL can be plugged into a vehicle cigarette lighter using a power cord with the plug. Please see the AUCB91P power cord (www.wearecb.com/aucb91p-cb-radio-power-cord.html) . Whether you use the PRO520XL or a handheld CB radio (for use in a vehicle), you will want to use an external CB antenna. A handheld CB radio being used inside a vehicle, without an external antenna on the vehicle, will not perform well. Combine a handheld CB radio with an external antenna and you could have a great system! The Midland 75822 (www.wearecb.com/75822-midland-ultra-compact-cb-radio-clone-15835.html) is a very popular handheld option if you want to move quickly between vehicles due to it's special adapter. Combine that 75822 with a magnetic mount antenna (preferably with an easy tune antenna- see the JBC112-3600- www.wearecb.com/36-dial-a-match-antenna-magnet.html) and external SWR meter like the AUSWR (www.wearecb.com/auswr-swr-meter.html) for tuning your antenna and you will have a great system to move between vehicles quickly and easily while giving you the range you are hoping for. They have 3 models of this little CB. Why buy the 'higher end one' when it doesn't even include 1 of these at least: scan. ssb. noaa. ANY ONE of those would actually make the price difference. Not useless things like anal or rf gain.
