Close call is ace , my first scanner was a realistic pro 32 in 87 , in 88 I got my class B ticket G 7BTH . Last radio I did was apps via the ISS with a kenwood thd7e . I don’t do any now but I think this radio with close call is great. I’m amazed at what you can get now. My first 2m rig cost about 200 odd and had thumb wheels for free selection , you can now get a baofeng dual band handy that fits in your shirt pocket for 30 quid. Amazing . Thanx for video 👍👍😄. 73

Contraptions 🤣
@carlylea3 жыл бұрын
Hey David, coming from a pilot, I'd suggest you find out what frequencies the clubs use and set your scanner to those frequencies if you're flying near their clubs. The close call feature might not exactly work, but having your radio set to their frequency will for sure.

Thanks for that. I use the same scanner. There was no other choice tbh for portable. They're a great tool. Which portable antenna are you using? I have 2 Watsons, a Super gainer W-881, Waton Aircraft W-901, the super gainer is great for longer range passenger fights, but seems to not pick up Boscombe Down, my local military airbase. Whereas the smaller Waton Aircraft picks up military fights. My indoor discone does everything very well. Do you know of any portable antennas that will give me range, plus pick up everything?

Is there anyway to avoid a close call frequency ? Mine always pick up one frequency where there is weird buzzing noise
@digitalanaloguehamradio Жыл бұрын
That’s a really interesting question. Close call locks on to a strong signal nearby. You have got little control over what it stops on other than changing the band or bands to seek.. so firstly, you could remove the band from the list in the close call menu. Which would not be ideal. Secondly, and I’m only guessing because I don’t have the radio handy, perhaps you could permanently lock out the frequency with the buzzing. It might avoid it being found.

Hi. Can you input a scan search of between 108-137 and scan just that range un till you find a signal? Or can you only Input frequencys and scan them.

The Close Call function has two modes for displaying the received frequency. In the first mode, you need to have time to press any button very quickly, to see the transmitter frequency. The second mode makes a temporary write to the databank memory register called CLOSE CALL HITS. The most difficult thing is to find and see what is written in this bank. Before each start of the CLOSE CALL function, it is necessary to enter the Close Call menu, find the Scan Hits function, go into it, and select SCAN HITS ON and press the PgmE button. After you start the Close Call only mode, and after, when you receive the carrier frequency, you can view it later, while the Close Call function is running, press the SCAN button, then immediately the HOLD button, you turn the knob at the top of the scanner counterclockwise and find the treasured data bank called CLOSE CALL HITS, and there are all your received frequencies.

When listening to frequencies with subtones is there anything we should remember when scanning?
@digitalanaloguehamradio Жыл бұрын
What a great question. Transmissions that have tones are supposed to give privacy. Scanners by default, do not have tones enabled. Therefore we can hear the traffic.

I am into VHF Airband (118~137mhz), I am thinking of buying this reciever and I am also interested in the Icom IC-R30, wonder which performs best on VHF Airband, Someone says that radio world charges £10 to put on selective programs, what are selective programs.
@digitalanaloguehamradio3 жыл бұрын
I think the icon would perform a bit better but it's just too extortionate price. The 125 is good enough. It's very popular with the aircraft listening community. There is a Facebook with the same name for the 125. Join that and you can put the memories on for free you will just need the wire

@digitalanaloguehamradio7 жыл бұрын
Now this depends how technically minded you are. There are scanners which are easier to use. But with a little practice and watching videos and asking questions you will master it. Many people have this as their first radio and get on fine. I would recommend this as a first radio. It has good coverage and the closest call feature is a lot of fun. Check out my channel I have many videos for this radio covering different subjects.

Can I make a suggestion and that is when you go from fucntion to function and setting up, you do NOT show us exactly what you are cliking, pushing or twisting as your camera is too close to the receiver! I have spent hours trying to get my radio to function to no avail as it is so incredibly and ridiculously complicated! I'm seriously thinking of giving it to a charity shop as I've had enough of it.
