Good video. Best part was just explaining that the dream machine is all the items packaged together. It seems that is missing from most KZbin videos. Thank you!

I am busy setting up 5 * unifi ceiling mount Aps all via cable. Do i need to change anything to have 1 SSID with all 5 units. I know i must just name the ssid on all 5 the same but when the user is connected to the closest AP it auto connects him instead of staying on the furthest AP
@NetXL-Official2 жыл бұрын
Hi Gerald, do you mind if I ask what your objective is in making your clients stay on the same AP even if there is one closer? Most people would prefer to be connected to the closest AP to give them the best performance.

@@NetXL-Official Hi man, I mean i want there to be 1 ssid using the 5 units. So for example the ssid of "Office" but be on all 5 units instead of different SSID. Is it correct in just naming all the devices office? Something like a mesh setup but they all going to be hard wired to the switch

You can use any switch you like! The benefit of using a Ubiquiti one is that you're able to manage it all in one place :)

@@NetXL-Official right on, that makes it so much easier. thanks man. just moved and the house already has POE and the access points ran in the ceiling but the previous owner took all the other kit in the network closet. he was almost cool

do you really need a controller to mange the ubi POE switch?
@NetXL-Official Жыл бұрын
Hello! The cloud controller allows for remote management over the cloud interface, so it's not necessary if you're happy to log in using the IP address when you're in proximity of the switch :)

Would it be smart to turn my current router (I have to have it because it decrypts co-axial data) into bridge mode for my USG?
@NetXL-Official2 жыл бұрын
If your router supports being put into bridge mode that could be the way to go. This will stop issues further along the line such as double NAT, DHCP conflict and routing issues which are caused when you have 2 routers trying to do the same job! The USG can do the heavy lifting while the current router just passes over the data.
Hi Dude, Which internet provider do you use? As I'm currently using sky and I've heard they're naff!

Hi, I am with BT and currently have just a Smart Hub 2. Which modem would be good to work with the devices you mentioned in this video? I assume I would need a DSL modem but would be good to get recommendations on what is easily configurable to work with the Ubiquiti devices
@NetXL-Official3 жыл бұрын
Your simplest option is to set your BT Smart Hub 2 to modem-only mode and use that as the modem. This will allow you to use another device (like the USG featured in this video) as your network router. If you'll be using Ubiquiti UniFi APs and switches, probably best to stick with UniFi all the way through rather than mixing and matching brands, though it can be done. If, for some reason, you don't like those options, a Draytek router would be a good choice since you're DSL (this will take care of modem duties as well). Something in the Vigor27xx series (eg 2765) will do the job.
@akyhussain_3 жыл бұрын
@@NetXL-Official I rang BT and they don’t allow changing the Smart Hub 2 to modem only mode 😒 I think I may have to invest in the Draytek like you said as I’ve seen some other people use that!

Would I need to get the unifi controller, if objective is to use usg as VPN server only. I know I can skip the ap as no wireless devices
@NetXL-Official4 жыл бұрын
Hello Aj, To configure the USG to set up your VPN server, you will have to use the controller which can be downloaded as software for free. Just go to Ubiquiti's website to download it and configure from there. You won't have to purchase anything in addition to the USG

If you have an old raspberry pi you can build your own controller if your budget is tight.

do you need the gateway???
@NetXL-Official4 жыл бұрын
Hi Walt, You do not need the gateway to use the controller. You can use the controller to monitor / manage a single UniFi device (such as a single access point) if you wish. Some of the security features within the Controller will be unavailable to you without one, though, as they rely on the security gateway hardware
@walthill37354 жыл бұрын
NetXL so in theory I can just buy 2 AP pros and hook them into my switch. Then set them up with the mobile app. And they will work perfectly and handoff. I just won’t have access to the monitor software without the gateway.
@NetXL-Official4 жыл бұрын
@@walthill3735 You could do that. You just wouldn't be able to monitor their data in the UniFi Controller. The UniFi Controller is the monitor software that you can download from ui.com/download. Without the security gateway, you just won't be able to configure firewall and other network settings from the controller, but you'll still be able to manage and monitor your switch and 2 APs
@walthill37354 жыл бұрын
i got the software to download but now its giving me an Java error and I'm not sure how to bypass this?
@NetXL-Official4 жыл бұрын
Hi Walt, The Java error is probably caused by not having the latest version of java installed on your system. This can be downloaded at java.com. Let us know if this fails to fix the problem or if you have any other issues :)

Unifi network poor benchmark WIFI/network speeds? I am running a unifi network which has USB-3P (firmware: 4.4.52.5363511) gateway, US-16-150W (firmware:5.43.23.12533) PoE switch, and one UAP-AC-LR (firmware: 4.3.24.11355) WAP. All running the latest firmware updates. Unifi Controller v6.0.45 on my Windows 10 Pro x64 and on the controller dashboard speed test I am getting 166 Mbps down 27 Mbps, 14ms latency. I have confirmed it on wifiman.com speedtest at 111 Mbps down and 25 Mbps up. Can anyone explain to me why when I plug on computer directly to the modem, I get 933Mbps down and 33Mbps up when speedtesting??

The Unify setup is the stupidest thing, they should've added all the spftware to their hardware so y'all can run it on your browser like EVERYONE else. Only reason I'm not buying it.
@NetXL-Official2 жыл бұрын
You can run the UniFi Controller from your browser. If you want the guest portal to be active or to manage remotely you'll need a controller on-site that runs all the time. If you're on the same network you can log in via browser or use the app. If you're just using this at home, you won't need the controller running all the time.
