The Lover is a Franco-British film directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud, released in 1992. It is the film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Marguerite Duras, published in 1984. At 70, Marguerite Duras recounts her adolescence in Indochina and her “hidden periods”. The author evokes the difficult relationship with her mother, the love she has for her little brother, her physical attraction for a friend at boarding school, and in particular her relationship with a Chinese man twelve years older than her .
