most of the lyrics and visuals are pretty straightforward, but for clarification; this song is about bulling and the cycle of violence. mainly the more passive-aggressive type (pretending to be someone's friend to go behind their back later, spreading rumors, cyber bulling, etc) the line "excluding, rejecting, targeting, whose turn is it next when the bull's eye brakes?" sums it up best. the only bit of symbolism that I found confusing is "a poet of a mistletoe" but I think I got it; mistletoe is a creeper plant, it latches on to other plants/trees, taking away sunlight from the other until the other dies. when it says that in the song I assume it means that the bullies are "attaching" themselves to one specific person, who they torment until they get bored of it. the murder of crows you see at 1:43 is pretty clearly a nod to the fact that crows are widely considered bad luck and an omen of death. the actual story is of a bullied girl who becomes the aggressor and joins her former tormentors in picking on their classmate, because in the cycle of violence the only real way some people feel like they can stop the torment is to join in the "fun" or to give in, she gains friends by siding with the other girls and even starts to take a sadistic joy in seeing the misfortune of other victims, but when her new friends get tired of her they start bulling her and spreading rumors, she falls into despair that she has no one left and that she can't even find support with the other bulling victims because she became the aggressor and was, in the end, no different from the others in their eyes. the song ends with her giving in to the despair and guilt and committing suicide by jumping off the school roof, leaving a note for the bullies saying only "are you happy?..." sorry for the pretentious rant, I like writing analysis of songs.
. “Hating her together so that I won’t be hated today.” Groups of people often hate on someone to have a sense of value, to feel better than someone and to be a part of something but in the end it’s all meaningless. I can relate to an attitude Ike this. Unfortunately.
