Can’t believe it was 9 years ago I was there, and still little has been done to clean up the site. Just gets worse and worse. I’d love to see it cleaned up and the land used for a hospital, University department to study industrial disasters globally, and some of the plant kept as a memorial.

To begin the clean up would mean acknowledging the true depth of their crimes, and an industrial cleanup and remediation of that size could cost a billion dollars. They tried their best to avoid even compensating the severely injured and killed victims of their mismanagement, of course they didn’t clean up their mess!

Have you been there? It is safe to walk around, just not touch the soil or drink the local water that is severely contaminated. It’s not nerve gas, but it is nasty. The soles of my walking boots dissolved, even with over-shoes. I’m an environmental scientist, and this is one of the nastiest, most polluted sites I’ve ever been to. I wore a respirator. Mr. Chobham chose not to. I cannot believe nothing has been done to remediate the site in almost 30 years. It shames India’s aspirations as a space-tech nation. Look to our earth first before looking to “your” stars....... and leave it fit for future generations.
