Actually, fun fact, one of these girls is my aunt, and she's awesome. I'm in marching band (i play clarinet for the Pride of Owasso), but i still love to talk to her about guard. Love for marching band is a great thing we have in common :)

btw... it's a sobering thought to realize that all these kids are pretty much in their 40's today! Yikes!

Always amazing...25 years later it's still the ultimate. Glad I was able to see it live!

Ah! I got to see this guard live too! Our instructor introduced us to winterguard in 1985 with Union HS, and they inspired us to be great. I love how eccentric we all were back then.

I love these guard videos: color, winter, any flag shows.

'87 was my first year discovering Winter Guard and I had already been a professional dancer and choreographer for 8 years at the time. I remember this show leaving a huge impression on me for many years. 26 years later it still sends a little chill up my spine watching it. I must have seen it three or four times that year before WGI and I recall how blown away I was by the "surprise ending" they saved for the finals. Thanks so much for posting this!

Does anyone have Union 2001???? They were the WGI Bronze Medalist. It would warm my heart to see it again. It was a very special group of people.

Unfortunately, I don't have it. Broken Vow by Lara Fabian? I do remember those rifles were amazing. It was one of the first times I noticed a lyrical song interpreted with such aggressive rifle work. While it's common now, it was jarring and brilliant at the same time, which I think is indicative of true innovation.

Coppell HS did a very similar rendition in 2012. Blue color scheme and all. Still have to find the original!

Had the privilege of having Wes Cartwright as a summer guard Instructor at Whitewater Brand Camp. He was awesome. He showed us this performance! He talked about the training that went into this. The girls lifted weights and everything! A show that really holds up even now!

1984 was my first year in winterguard at ft.gibson hs. any chance you have video of the union show that year... That was the best show ever if i remember right.. same red costume but hoods (i think, im getting old) and music from def leppard - Foolin. i still think of that show every time i hear it.

I don't mean to troll, but I think that's why they didn't make finals. Anyone (including judges) who's never seen this show wouldn't understand that reference.
