We always build our forms onsite out of wood so we use all the typical Carpenters tools. but these guys are using metal forms. Too many tools I agree

I've seen both types of people in unions. Hard fast smart worlers and the lazy worthless types. It just depends on the person and how much work is available as to wether the worthless get in or not. Best odds of finding lazy worthless workers are at the cost + sites. Companies love the lazy and slow in those jobs. Drag a contract out and increase the profits. Flat rate contracts you see the hard working fast workers. It all depends on how much work is out there as to wether you see the worthless guys working or not. As for me I personally got too much of the politics in unions and left for private sector and don't regret it. I make nearly the same rate... but get far more hours in private sector and have regular employment... not tiny contract to tiny contract. Not to mention our local brotherhood is big time gutless and weak... they stuck it to so many of the locals now they bring in far more out of province workers and out of country then they hire local... not many of us are willing to work for them anymore.

Curt Warkentin Man that is the truth. I have noticed when I was in my trade that half the workers on any given job were what I call politicals, meaning, they know somebody high up, and the politicals hang around and look off the side of the building most of the time, and the other half are the worker ants, and they carry the load, double up and do the jobs. Most of the time, the worker ants get laid off before the politicals.

I don't know any companies that like slow lazy workers. Companies usually don't get paid per hour they put a price in and that's it. You can't "drag jobs out"

I just retired from the carpenters union last year , glad I retired when I did. The last 10 years I worked with so many backstabbing jerks , I was glad to get it done. But there is still a lot of good people out there , just finding them is getting harder to find. Good luck and stay safe. Let's go Brandon !

I was setting ganged Simon forms 30'×20' high on a job well were trying to organize, the Union Operator drug up because the crane wasn't large enough the Non Union operator lost control took out the whole corner of the building. Moral of the story ( Only Use Union Construction Workers ) Union Carpenter 35 yrs.

🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 yeah dude, you're an idiot for saying that. Any body on a crane carrying a panel that's 30x20 can lose control of the load. Do a lift like that in high winds and watch that load take off and destroy a tower cranes trolly. Seen it happen to a "maxim union" operator before

@BillieBobSmith I don't the situation in whatever "right to work" state you live in, but in L.A. we have non-union companies beating down our door right now to get signatory. There is very little work across the board but the little work there is is all PLA. The non-union sector seems to be way more screwed than us. We've already signed a number of companies that we thought would never come over. And only a joe would flip to work for a non-union outfit. They're not worth a damn to us.

@BillieBobSmith I'm sure that what you consider to be a "good wage" is less than a "living wage". Your whole post underlines the reason why unions exist in the first place. You hire only immigrants who are happy to work for substandard wages who undercut U.S. citizens. Do they get a pension? Do they get full benefits? Do they have somebody looking out for their safety and welfare? Meanwhile the boss drives a benz and lives in a mansion while profiting from the exploitation of desperate men.

@BillieBobSmith Immigrants aren't the best workers. They're the cheapest workers. In the union we have a qualitative training apprenticeship program where we learn every aspect of our trade. Union construction crews routinely finish projects in less time and with less injuries and fewer problems than non-union. If you want it done cheap, go non-union. If you want it done right, pay for a union crew.

And also because they are using OCCIDENTAL Bags. That was already in the past. For these times we need better bags like REX TOOL BAGS !! Those are special for us union carpenters, where you must bring a little more tools than non union carpenters. Take a look, I really recommend them from union brother to union brother.

Not all jobs use plywood and 4x4 for forms. When dealing with a shear wall that big the wood forms would warp under all that pressure unless you want to spend a lot more on 4x6 or more. Doka/peri panels are faster and easier to install but hey, guys like you never did high rises before cause you would have known all that
