Lots of action on the HIGH IRON today! I found some very old HO car kits that i had bought as a teenager (1960s), and in conjunction with the older ones i got at the train show, they most definitely go back a few years. A couple of them are "craftsman kits", and take several days worth of time & effort to assemble. But those are the ones that give me satisfaction, well worth the time and effort!
@redsiowatrainvideos66455 күн бұрын
@paulsmith5398 Yes Paul some of those kits are pretty detailed! You can pass a lot of time in the winter months with them.
@paulsmith53985 күн бұрын
@redsiowatrainvideos6645 theres a date of Oct 1962 on one kit, and the only other one i found only has 1958 on it. And with winter temps coming around the "Mile-Long-Curve", those old kits will definitely give me something to do. Dont know if your dad ever mentioned it, but there really is a "Mile-Long-Curve" on the (CNW) U.P., not exactly sure where it is, but its featured in a CNW video i have.

@paulsmith5398 That curve may be just East of Cedar Rapids along the Cedar River. Starts near the Otis Junction.

Red that’s my favorite spot to watch your videos is right there in front of your camper. I bet you they have to be 60 to 80 trains and a 24 hour period that goes through there and 90% of them are highballing. Those engineers are not letting grass grow up under those babies, but anyway, my friend another awesome video and as always you stay safe out there and watch your back and we’ll see you on the next one

@timmyfrierson2684 Glad you like it Timmy! Actually only about 30 trains a day. There are slow times. I sure do like the speed though👍

Lots of action. Wow first stack was lots of power. Second priority was mooooooving...I heard on another train site they should never have empty flat cars in middle of train as the weight on both ends could cause an derailment. But maybe that's a myth. I see lots of them in your videos. Thank you Red.
@redsiowatrainvideos66454 күн бұрын
@davidsnider1703 You're welcome David S! I know on my HO layout that empty flats don't do well in the middle. Problems especially on curves.

Great video as usual. lots of ideas for manifests for the HO railroad. Not sure how much control you have on the drone for exposure but it looks to me like you are about 1/3 to 1/2 stop over exposed relative to the ground level shots. Love the driveway control.
@redsiowatrainvideos66455 күн бұрын
@johncox9198 Thanks John C! I'm playing with some lense filters on the drone here recently.

Those trains love to fly thru there, here in Oregon, my grandparents live in a small town called Hubbard, and for Amtrak believe it or not, it's 70 mph for them, and for freights they go 40 - 45, but when I see stack trains, they hit the sack of going 55 - 60 mph, and boy those things will wind ya.
@redsiowatrainvideos66455 күн бұрын
@@kellenmatthews1440 That's what I like about Montour Kellen. Plenty of speed👍
@thomasmackowiak5 күн бұрын
The trains that you caught on 10 Nov3ember 2024 at Montour, Iowa were pass through at fast speeds. The only train that slowed down was the last westbound manifest train. The reasons for the slower speed may have been because of the pasting eastbound loaded coal train and the fact that the train was going up a slight grade as it traveled toward Marshalltown, Iowa. Your drone footage was fantastic as usual. Your drone footage toward the Iowa River Valley showed that all the farm fields near Montour had been harvested. (Posted on 23 November 2024 at 23214 CST.)

@thomasmackowiak Thanks Thomas! Looks like some cold railfanning coming soon. Lots of anhydrous ammonia being put on the fields now.
